Are You the One?
Welcome to season eight of Are You The One, a reality show in which twenty to twenty-four competitors will face off in hopes of finding love and winning the million dollar prize. Each competitor will have a perfect match, but they will not know who it is.
In this roleplay, each week will be three RP days. (One RP day will equal two days in real life)
During the first day, there will be a competition and there will usually be two winners. The winners will be able to choose who they want to take on a date. After the competition, all of the contestants will socialize in the house.
During the second day, the date will take place and the other contestants will socialize in the house. The rest of the contestants will also choose which couple on the date they want to send into the truth booth, which will reveal if the couple is a perfect match or not. The chosen couple will then get in the booth when they get back from their date, and if they are a perfect match they will spend one last night with the other contestants before going off to a romantic hotel. If they are not a perfect match, they will have to try to move on to continue on in the search of their perfect match.
During the third day, the contestants will socialize and get ready for the match ceremony at night. Each week either the girls or guys will have their pick of who they want to sit with at the ceremony. There will then be ten to twelve lights and every light represents a perfect match. The number of lights that are lit is how many perfect matches are sitting together at the ceremony.
The goal of the game is that by the end of ten (there may be more depending on how many matches there are) weeks all ten to twelve lights will be lit. If they are, the million dollar prize will be split in between all the contestants. If they are not, they will walk away with nothing. This explanation may be subject to change because I may be adding twists; however, I am still not sure.
For the first three seasons, I made the matches, but for the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh season, I had someone else do it for me, although I still owned the RP. I will have someone else be the matchmaker this season and will most likely choose two. If you are interested, I will have a form for you to fill out so I can choose the matchmakers. If you did not vote and the poll on the new ideas thread where I asked if you were interested in being the matchmaker, then reply to this and let me know that you would be interested so I can tag you when I release the form!
Last season was a pansexual season but this one will be a heterosexual season.
Everybody can sign-up and hopefully at least one of your characters will get a spot, but it isn’t guaranteed that both of them will. (It also isn’t 100% guaranteed that either character will get a spot either) If you do not get a spot or only one character gets accepted, you can let me know if you would like to be on the waiting list in case somebody drops out or goes inactive. (Which unfortunately usually happens pretty fast)
Everybody who wants to make character must submit their sign-ups before February 4th, 2020! (11:59 PM) (Once the roleplay starts, absolutely no new characters are allowed! However, you may ask to be put on the waiting list to adopt a character) The roleplay will start on February 8th, 2020.
Rules:
-Do not advertise your own RPs or SGs or anything here!
-You must be active, seriously, if you are not going to be active, don’t join!
-Make interesting characters, but remember, keep them believable!
-Make your characters realistic, no magic or other things that wouldn’t happen in real life!
-This kind of goes along with the rule above, but do not make boring or perfect characters!
-Do not reuse any of the information from any previous characters for any RP/SG, it doesn’t matter if that character was yours or not
-You must create one male and one female character. (Do not only create two characters of the same gender unless I give you permission) You can create more than two characters, but they all won’t get in.
-Please reserve before signing up!
-No characters are allowed to be homosexual in order for this to work, sorry! Characters can be bisexual/pansexual/some other sexuality, but they will still be matched to a girl if they’re a guy and vice versa.
-Please don’t make a character who’s aromantic, asexual is okay though.
-Your character must be a resident of the US
-No characters are allowed to know each other before the show
-Characters are not allowed to bring pets or personal things such as games, books, electronic devices, musical instruments, etc.
-All faceclaims must be of real people! (No drawings/animations and obviously only humans)
-All faceclaims must be good quality! I don’t want any blurry faceclaims
-If you are not active for longer than two days without letting me know beforehand, your characters will be put up for adoption! I can also put your character up for adoption if I feel like you are not active enough. Ideally, at least a conversation a day (At least ten posts between you and the other person) would be good. I may change this so there might be a warning system again, but regardless you must be active
-Once your character has found their perfect match in the truth booth and goes to the hotel, they will only be playable at the light ceremony.
-Sex is allowed (In the show there’s actually a room called the boom boom room which will be in the roleplay), but once the clothes come off, you must skip the scene. (And even when clothes are on, don’t make anything graphic)
-Do not share details about your characters with anybody else. The only thing you’re allowed to share is what they look like, their name, and their age. Do not share their personality or biography or interests or what they’re looking for in a person. The reason for this is that then it might be easier to determine who is a perfect match which ruins the whole point of the roleplay. The purpose is to discover what the other characters are like yourself instead of being told. You are allowed to say things such as your characters’ biography when you are roleplaying as them, but not when you aren’t.
-When you roleplay, please try to stay with what you wrote and don’t change your characters’ personalities because if you do, their perfect match won’t be as compatible with them. If you need your character’s personality or bio or something, you can PM whoever ends up making the matches and they’ll tell you it.

Biography *
Mei’s mother died when Mei was only four, so she has no recollection of the events or her mother. She grew up in a household with all guys, which did influence her long term. She was raised in South Dakota, where the driving age was pretty low. She lived far away from everything: her school, restaurants, stores, her friends. Since she lived so far away from everything, she had to drive everywhere, so as soon as she could legally drive, she did. She soon realized how much she liked driving and would secretly go to places where she could go pretty fast or do different tricks with the car. She soon told her dad about this and she was able to go to a racing school once she turned sixteen. In high school, her grades were doing alright but she was mostly just focused on the social part of it. She had a group of close friends, all guys, and never really made many friends with girls since she just got along better with guys. Later, her racing skills continued to improve even more until she decided that instead of going to college, after high school she would pursue her dream of being a race car driver for NASCAR. Eventually, at twenty-three years old, this dream came true. Throughout her years of being alive, Mei often spent her time focusing on things other than love, but when she did catch feelings and try to find it, her relationships just never worked. When she liked a guy, she would go after him and pursue the relationship, but it usually wouldn’t work for either one of the two reasons. Sometimes they would just think of her as one of the guys and wouldn’t feel romantically toward her. Or sometimes they would want her to completely change for them and that’s just not how she is. In her last relationship, she was with a man and they were going pretty well for a couple of months until she found out he was cheating on her. She got p!ssed and left him, but eventually came back to him a couple of weeks later. This on and off relationship continued for about a year until she decided that since she had already achieved her dream, she could take a couple of months off to join the show and take another shot at love.
Personality *
Mei likes to have fun and live life to the fullest. She likes daring activities that give her a rush of adrenaline. However, she doesn’t always focus on fun things and knows that life isn’t all fun and games. She works for what she wants, but she does make sure that she has fun while doing it, hence why she chose to do race car driving. Since is often surrounded by guys, from her childhood until now, Mei acts like them. She has developed similar hobbies and personality traits. She often likes to go to the bar with the guys and/or go grab a beer. Sometimes she can say raunchy things like she won’t really act “sl-tty” or whatever like she thinks some girls do, but she might have crude humor at times, say things that some may consider inappropriate, or just curse a lot. Since she often is with guys and her career is mostly male-dominated, she notices the advantages guys have with better opportunities and pay they earn. She likes to advocate for equal pay and opportunities for women, which some of her male friends can get annoyed at, although even though she is a feminist, she doesn’t dislike men. She recognizes that her male friends are paid more and have better opportunities, but she doesn’t feel as if it’s their fault or dislike them for it. The reason why she mostly avoided girls was that she thought girls were often catty and caused drama, which Mei did not like. She still continues to have mostly male friends for that reason, but also because she’s become so used to socializing with guys that it’s just weird being around girls. Since guys are often taught not to show emotion by society or something, she grew up around others who didn’t show emotion themselves, so this affected Mei and now she doesn’t like to show many of her emotions. She’ll show ones like happiness or anger or annoyance but doesn’t like to show when she’s sad about something. A part of her thinks that showing emotion is weak, although she doesn’t think it’s weak when others do it, unless they constantly show emotion and are very sensitive, which she doesn’t like. She also doesn’t like to apologize to others and admit that she was wrong and it is very hard for her to do that. Mei is slightly carefree and can be impulsive. She does have worries at times and needs to think things through, but she usually just does things without worrying about them beforehand. She doesn’t really care what other people think about her and she can be somewhat blunt at times which sometimes can be mistaken for being rude, but she really isn’t trying to be rude. (Except the few times that she actually is trying) She often goes what she wants and takes what she wants without apology or care. She is stubborn and can sometimes be aggressive in going for what she wants. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind about things (unless it involves actually opening up about herself and her struggles) even if the opinion may be controversial. She can slightly be a hypocrite since she talks about how she doesn’t like certain things most girls do, but sometimes she does them herself. She is loyal and sticks with those she cares about. If they break her trust, she’ll leave them, but come right back to them pretty quickly.

Slater grew up as the oldest of all his seven siblings. His parents were constantly working and weren’t exactly the most caring parents, so since Slater was the oldest child, he had to start taking care of his siblings and the house. He often cooked for his siblings and soon it became a hobby for him. He tried to make new dishes for everyone and soon got pretty good at it. He would also try to entertain his siblings by hosting mock food shows. At school, he tried to hide everything that he was going on at home and pushed everything inside. He never told anyone about what was going on and tried to have a normal life, but it was hard. He would spend most of his time with his siblings and lying to his friends about what was going on. This continued all throughout high school, although in his junior year he got a girlfriend and opened up to her about everything at home. They were together for half a year, until he discovered she cheated on him and was heartbroken. They broke up and right as his senior year was about to end, he got another girlfriend, who ended up cheating on him just like the other one did. Once again, Slater was heartbroken and decided that in his next relationship, he would be the one to cheat first so he couldn’t get as hurt. Once it was time to go to college, he chose a college to study something related to food nearby so he could still visit his siblings often, but he didn’t visit that often to try to get his own life and do other things, like surfing or going out with the friends he started to make. Around these new friends, he behaved differently and didn’t show the caring and mature part of himself that he showed around his siblings. He broke out of his shell and went to parties and bars and surfed more often. He became pretty secretive to most people about his hobby of cooking and how much he liked food and pretended like everything was alright and had been alright with his family for all those years. Although he did do all his things, he still did visit some of his younger siblings to check up on them. During his senior year of college, he started to date a girl. He knew all the hurt he had gone through in the past when he was cheated on, so he knew that he did not want to go through that again. This resulted in him cheating on the girl he was with. She eventually cheated on him which is when he told her that he cheated on her in the first place. Although Slater did care a lot about this girl and opened up to her and talked about the future, the relationship was very messy. They would try to one-up each other and when one cheated, the other one soon cheated as well because they were hurt and wanted to hurt the other. They then made up for a few days before this cycle would just start over. This eventually became normal for Slater and he assumed the relationship was healthy when it really wasn’t. He continued looking after his siblings but not very often since they could all now take care of themselves. He also continued hanging out with his friends and doing all the things he started doing in college. After he graduated from college, he became a chef at a restaurant and started a food blog meanwhile that was anonymous. He also created an Instagram page for his food blog and the two soon became very popular. Once his blog and Instagram really started taking off and he started to gain a lot of money from it, he quit his job as a chef. Slater then had more time for his friends, girlfriend, siblings, and just for himself. As soon as his friends began to question where he got all his money from if he didn’t work, he told everyone that it was money he had inherited from a relative who recently died. His relationship from his senior year of college continued for a while, but eventually ended when he cheated on her with her best friend and she cheated on him with his best friend. The two then fought with their best friends. This resulted in them losing their best friends and then they fought with each other and could not make up, so they broke up. One of his siblings, Max, noticed everything that had happened with him and his ex, so he recommended Are You the One to Slater, who then decided to sign-up for the show as long as Max took care of his food blog and Instagram account for the food blog while he was gone.
Personality *
To many people, Slater seems like a chill guy to be around. He goes out with his friends to bars and goes partying and surfing. He’s pretty friendly to others and outgoing around most people. Despite this, he’s pretty closed off about his personal life with people he doesn’t know and his friends. He doesn’t tell them much about his family or his job. Although he’s pretty chill with his friends and most people, he may explode on whoever his girlfriend at the time cheats on him with. (So if his girlfriend cheats on him with his friend or if his friend makes a move on his girlfriend, he might get into a fight with that friend, but like this usually doesn’t happen) Around whoever he’s dating, he tends to open up more. At first, he remains closed off, but over time he opens up and tells them about his family and job and personal life. He also cares a lot for whoever he’s with as he grows closer to them and does things for them, like cook or clean. Slater gets jealous very easily in relationships, but he also tends to cheat. He cheats if he makes some type of connection with someone else but also sometimes cheats if he finds out he was cheated on, just to hurt the other person. Although he really does care about and sometimes love whoever he’s with in the relationship, it’s a twisted type of love. He gets jealous and cheats because he’s been cheated on before and feels the need to cheat first so he doesn’t get as hurt. Although he hasn’t been in many of them, his relationships are pretty toxic. During the rare times that things are actually going pretty well in the relationship and neither of them had cheated too recently, Slater can be romantic. He’s also slightly romantic when the relationship is starting to show that he truly cares about the girl. Around his siblings, Slater acts like a father figure, even though all his siblings can now take care of themselves. He checks up on them and still makes meals for them and helps some of them clean. He cares a lot for them and can be slightly overprotective at times. He’s pretty patient with them (and generally with most people like his friends) as well. With some of his siblings which are closer to his age, like Max who is two years younger than him, Slater acts like a friend but is definitely more open.

Biography *
Valentina was born in Springfield, Illinois to two parents who were Costa Rican. She spent four years there until her grandmother got cancer. Once that happened, her parents took her and her two sisters and moved to Costa Rica to be with Valentina’s grandparents. There, Valentina spent time with her grandmother, who died five years later. After that, her family decided to stay in Costa Rica to be with her grandfather. Valentina wasn’t as close with the rest of her family, so she started putting her efforts into school. Her efforts paid off and soon enough, she was doing very well. Once she was a little older, she made new friends and started going out to parties more often. At seventeen years old, her grandfather died, so her family moved back to Springfield, except for her older sister who stayed in Costa Rica. Valentina was pretty upset that she had to leave after she had already made a close group of friends, but since she was still a minor, she was forced to come along. She had already graduated high school before she moved, so Valentina spent her first days there going out, but found herself not liking the city she was in. She hated the winter weather and the social scene, so instead, Valentina started planning how to leave. Once she turned eighteen in the spring, she stole a large amount of money from her parents (who were pretty wealthy) and bought a one way ticket to Los Angeles, California. There, she rented an apartment, got a fake ID, and went out every night, soon making a few friends. After a week, she noticed the money dwindling and desperately tried to find a way to make money. Valentina applied for several jobs, but was only able to be hired by McDonald’s. After a week of working there and earning the minimum wage, she decided that she needed another way to earn more cash. She kept her job, but asked around until she came across one man who she met at a nightclub that told her that he owned a strip club and that she could work for him. She accepted his offer and soon started stripping, but not earning much money since she was new. She became a little more popular after a couple weeks, but with the increasing popularity came customers who were more aggressive toward her. She was so desperate for money and didn’t want to go back to her parents after what she had done that she just let everyone use her. The more she let herself be treated like an object, the more popular she became. But as this cycle kept going, her self-esteem became lower and lower. She became weak, and others who noticed took advantage of this. The club owner was one of those people. He was physically attracted to Valentina, so he made advances at her. Valentina didn’t do anything about it because she didn’t know how to defend herself and was scared that she wouldn’t be allowed to strip at the club anymore if she rejected his advances. She was making a good amount of money at this point so she believed that the only way to have money was to sell herself. One night that Valentina was stripping, a wealthy man came into that club for the first time and noticed her. Throughout the night, he noticed how other men used her and mainly targeted her. He stayed until the club closed and approached Valentina, telling her that he noticed how she had been treated throughout the night. After being treated that way for a while, Valentina just told him that it was normal. He disagreed and told her that he’d pay her five thousand dollars to take her home and sleep with her. She agreed, then did just that, feeling like she had hit an all time low and feeling disgusted at herself the entire time. The next morning, the man introduced himself as Azriel. He told her that there was another way to earn money without selling herself. He told her that she could still make the same amount of money, if not more, and feel powerful while doing it. This appealed to Valentina, so she agreed to do whatever it was. Azriel told her that she would be dealing drugs for him and that he dealt drugs for a while now and was successful at it, which was how he was so wealthy. He told her that she’d need to learn to defend herself first and that he could teach her during the daytime. She agreed, then quit her job at McDonald’s and started meeting Azriel at his place every day and going to strip at night. As a couple weeks passed by, Valentina started catching feelings for Azriel, but didn’t think anyone could actually feel the same way toward her due to her low self-esteem. After a few more weeks, Valentina learned to defend herself in a few ways and she became better at it. Once the weeks were over, she started dealing drugs for Azriel during the day and whenever she had time and wasn’t stripping. When Valentina started earning more money, she stopped stripping and started dealing at night. Whenever she had free time, she would spend it with Azriel, who began catching feelings for her as well. He later asked her on a date and from there, a romance took off between the two. For the first time in a while, Valentina began to feel more confident and happy with her life. For a year she continued to feel this way. She brought in more customers with the people skills she had years ago. Valentina and Azriel also began dating and were together for nine months. A few days after their relationship had hit a milestone of nine months, there were reports that the police began cracking down more on drugs. A week later, a couple of Azriel’s dealers had been arrested. Valentina told Azriel that she wanted to take a break for a little with dealing drugs since she didn’t want to get caught. This put a strain on their relationship, which headed south a couple weeks later once Azriel tried to force Valentina into dealing drugs again. Valentina freaked out and didn’t want Azriel trying to control her in any way. She was now more strong-willed, so she broke up with Azriel and moved out of his place. While looking for a new place, Valentina had the idea of moving somewhere completely new and starting over. Los Angeles was a place where so many things had happened, where her self esteem became extremely low, where she was used by so many people, and where she did several illegal things. Valentina had the money to move somewhere new and start a new life, so she decided to do just that. She bought a one way ticket, this time to Miami, Florida. In Miami, she rented an apartment and got a new fake ID since she was twenty years old at the time. She then went out and on her way, she noticed an empty lot. The next day, Valentina signed up to take business training course. After finishing the course, she bought the empty lot and started construction on it. She decided that she would own her own gym. While waiting for the construction to be finished, Valentina started working at another gym nearby to see first-hand how it was run. She kept working there until the construction was finished at her gym. She then furnished her gym and was able to hire employees fairly easily because of her people skills. She promoted the gym to all the people she had met and soon after her gym, Anaerobic, opened, several people became a member. Her business quickly took off and after a year, Anaerobic was one of the most popular gyms in the area. Now Valentina was able to live a nice lifestyle since she had much more money and did not have a guilty conscience about what she was doing. As well as living a nice lifestyle, she started living a healthier lifestyle as well. She became a vegetarian and started exercising a lot more, as well as doing yoga and meditating. Since her gym was finally set up and Valentina had more free time, she went out more and made more friends. She soon met a woman named Alexandria and they quickly became a thing. When Alexandria started asking more about Valentina’s past and started forcing her to do things she didn’t want to do (nothing major, just small things), she quickly broke up with her and stopped talking with her completely. Valentina then decided that dating just wasn’t for her. About a month later, since Anaerobic was going really well, she decided to open her gym in a second location in the Miami area. She bought a building that wasn’t being used, then opened that gym in half a year, which went really well. Six months later, Valentina was living a pretty nice life, but wanted romance in it again. However, she hadn’t met anyone that she had really connected well with, so she decided to sign up for Are You the One, a show that she liked, so she could see if she would really find her match there.
Personality *
Valentina’s personality has changed throughout the years and she has become a stronger person since facing all the difficulties that she faced in Los Angeles. She usually has a strong sense of self-worth which she did not have at one point. However, this does not mean that she constantly has a high self-esteem. For the most part, Valentina is confident, however, sometimes she doubts herself and slips back into the mindset that she had several years of having a low self-esteem and self-worth. (to the point where she may shut herself out and cry or something) She also tends to get a little nervous and jittery in front of people she has a crush on.
Because of her past, Valentina has a hard time in relationships. She tends to be a bit closed off in regards to her past and tends to leave quickly if she sees something that she doesn’t like in someone because she gets scared. Valentina is a bit stubborn and won’t change for anyone. She is usually only open to change if she makes the change herself and not if someone else forces her to make the change. Valentina is definitely a people person and loves to socialize. She is pretty approachable and friendly once you do talk to her. She is an independent person and doesn’t believe that she truly needs anyone in life but herself, although she still likes to have her friends present in her life. Biography *
Cade was born to two very successful parents who were pretty traditional. They raised him to believe that he should be masculine and like sports and go into a high-paying job. However, growing up, Cade became fond of musical theatre. Since he was told that it was wrong, he kept it to himself and followed his parents’ orders. In high school, he joined the lacrosse team and dated one of the girls that his parents liked. Around that time, Cade also began to realize that he liked guys as well, but he didn’t tell anyone. He secretly envied some of the kids in his school, the kids who could really be themselves and be out without worrying about what others would say. After high school, Cade went to NYU and studied finance, just like his parents wanted him to. Throughout college, Cade continued to keep some of himself hidden and shut himself off. He made a few friends, but for the most part he just pushed people away since he was too scared to be his true self. After graduating, Cade became an investment banker on Wall Street and basically spent most of his time working since he usually worked about a hundred hours per week. On whatever free time he had, he would either get drinks with his friends or go see a musical on or off broadway. Occasionally, he would meet up with his parents for dinner. After a couple years of working as an investment banker, Cade accumulated quite a lot of money but still didn’t feel fulfilled. He only had a few friends and romantic relationships never worked out since he was always busy and couldn’t express his true self. One day, Cade heard of this reality show that was going to make a season full of queer people. This appealed to him as a chance to finally get out of the closet and try to embrace himself for who he truly is.

Cade has a few layers to his personality. Once you meet him, he’ll be a little cold and not so willing to talk. However, if he’s with you for some time, he’ll warm up. Cade can also tend to be a little serious and sarcastic. Sometimes he takes out his own insecurities on others, by maybe being rude to people who are proud of who they are. When he’s truly himself, he may still be a little sarcastic, but he’ll definitely soften up and be a little nicer. If he’s talking about something that he’s truly passionate about, he’ll ramble on and on and it’ll be almost like he’s a different person. When he truly cares for someone, he’ll show the softer and more fun side of himself and he will do anything for the person. Although he hasn’t been in relationships where he’s really romantically liked the person he’s been with, if he does like the person romantically and they romantically like him back, he’ll make big romantic gestures and spend his money on them.
