Bane of Degradation - Official Roleplay

Within the group, a sense of ease and camaraderie pervaded the air, a welcomed respite for Amissa. She understood that missions of this nature allowed for a more carefree ambiance, yet their significance remained paramount, shaping the cohesion of the team.

"Feel free to unburden yourselves at the tavern. Our attendants will see to the transport of your belongings to your lodgings once we have deposite of them,โ€ Ferox elucidated, gesturing for them to follow as they embarked towards a quaint tavern nestled not far from the bustling port. โ€Come with me."

The tavernโ€™s interior emanates a comforting aura, with wooden beams crisscrossing the ceiling. Nautical relics and faded maps adorn the space, while soft candlelight dances, casting flickering shadows.

As Ferox strides into the tavern alongside everyone, the locals pause their conversations, offering friendly nods and greetings. Their faces light up with familiarity upon spotting the son of the tavern owner, fostering a sense of camaraderie akin to an extended family.

Amissa, is embraced warmly by the tavernโ€™s staff and patrons as well, her close bond with the ownerโ€™s family evident in their affectionate gestures and fond gazes.

While some patrons regard Kirara with curiosity and wariness, others offer encouraging smiles. Beside her, Ivadriel marvels at the surroundings with wide-eyed wonder and the locals, recognizing his youthful enthusiasm, offer supportive gestures.

As they deposit their belongings, Ferox suggests, โ€The tavern seems bustling at the moment. Why donโ€™t you accompany them to the plaza while I assist my family? Weโ€™ll reconvene at the harbor by sundown.โ€ Amissa agrees with a nod, turning to her companions to convey the plan through sign language. She assures Kirara of a quiet spot for her requested respite, mentioning a place for a meal before they depart.

Emerging from the tavern, Amissa led the group to a bustling plaza where life pulsed through the crowd. The symphony of voices, commerce, and laughter intertwined, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Cobblestone streets hosted market stalls showcasing a variety of wares. Fish stalls glistened under the sunlight, their scales resembling precious jewels. Barrels of wine emitted a rich aroma, enticing those passing by. Towers of cheese exuded an earthy allure, and sacks of nuts beckoned with abundance.

At the plazaโ€™s heart stood a majestic fountain, its cascading waters providing a soothing melody amidst the lively market. The refreshing sound invited weary travelers to pause and children to find playful relief.

Amissa directed attention to a specific stall near the center of the plaza, explaining its significance through sign language. [This is Izunut, also known as Oceanโ€™s Pearl Berries. Found just outside the harbors, theyโ€™re baked here and are the most delicious treat.] The sweet scent of the baked fruit tantalized those in line.

The its smooth, pearlescent skin glimmers with iridescent hues, shifting from opalescent whites to shimmering purples and deep blues as if reflecting the colors of the ocean. Golden filaments cascaded elegantly from its stem. Its flesh, tender and succulent, offered a burst of juicy sweetness blending floral notes, exotic spices, and hints of mango, papaya, passionfruit, and jasmine.

With the delightful fruit in hand, Amissa guides her companions along a winding path, ascending a gentle hill that eventually reveals a secluded cliff with a panoramic view of the ocean. As they stand on the precipice, absorbing the sights of the sea and the descending sun, Amissa communicates through sign language. [This, Kirara, is the quiet haven you wanted in Andford. It offers a breathtaking view, providing glimpses of the city, especially the bustling merchant district and the lively harbor.] She gestures toward a prominent structure in the distance. [That building there is the RedOcean Magic Guild. They lend a helping hand in our local missions and call upon us when their job demand official assistance.]

As they enjoyed the scenic view, Amissa took a bite of the Izunut and proposed, [Since we have time before Aevus arrives, letโ€™s get to know each other better. What led both of you to join the organization?]

Leaving the young recruits to bond and dream about the tasks ahead, Flayke retired to his quarters first.

The next dawn him and Flake awoken early, likely due to Flaykeโ€™s lack of specified waking time and the sunโ€™s imminent rise. Silently descending the stairs, Flayke busied himself with preparing a hearty breakfast of local fruits, meats, and bread, ensuring they had ample energy for the day ahead. โ€œHey, youngsters, rise and shine! Breakfast is ready,โ€ he called out, waiting for signs of movement before returning to the food with a contented grin.

"Iโ€™ve got boiled roasted Corenuts, a tea brewed from Strolisโ€™s finest herbs, and Firn milk,โ€ he offered this time, accompanying his words with sign language as he noticed one of the pair focusing more on his mouth than his speech. [โ€œMy apologies for not realizing your deafness earlier; Iโ€™ll incorporate sign language from now on,โ€] he added, combining speech with gestures. [โ€œAs for our plans, I want you both to venture outside of town and explore the surrounding areas. We suspect Flurris may be somewhere near the forest, the lake, or the mountains. We need to find him. Iโ€™ll join you later in the day after visiting both his parents and the injured friendโ€™s family. Additionally, I plan to inquire with his tormentors about their actions toward him,โ€] Flayke explained. [โ€œIf you do encounter him, please refrain from startling or attacking him. Iโ€™m unsure of his mental state, and Iโ€™d rather not agitate him further. Try to calm him down and help him regain control,โ€] he concluded their brief briefing.

Afterward, they readied themselves to depart.[ โ€œIโ€™ve provided some extra clothing to help you withstand the cold. Should it start snowing at any point, return immediately; youโ€™re unfamiliar with the area, and Iโ€™d hate for you to become lost in a blizzard,โ€] Flayke cautioned, peering outside. [โ€œIt can get quite perilous when the weather turns severe,โ€] he added.

With those words of warning, Flayke bid farewell to the duo and ventured out into the wintry landscape. Just beyond Tore, amidst the towering peaks of the frozen Mountains, a vast snow-covered forest stretched endlessly. Here, ancient trees bowed under the weight of snow, their branches laden with frost. The air was thick with the scent of pine, and the sound of their footsteps echoed through the silent woods.

Yet, beyond the forestโ€™s edge lay the true marvelโ€”a vast, frozen lake that shimmered like a mirror in the sunlight. Here, the sky and earth met in a breathtaking display of natural beauty, the sunโ€™s rays painting the ice with a myriad of colors. Yet beneath the surface lay a realm unseen, a darkness where myths and legends were said to dwell, hidden from the world above.

As snowflakes drifted gently from the trees, cloaking the land in a soft silence, one couldnโ€™t help but sense the magic that permeated the air.

Exchanging jests and compliments alike, they strolled through the busy streets of Andford, led by Ferox, towards a tavern, Ferox maintaining his enthusiasm throughout the journey and Ivโ€ฆDraโ€ฆwhatever keeping up with him. Kirara feigned her indifference towards their exchange, and from what she could overhear spouting from Ivadrielโ€™s mouth in a form of praise (?), she decided it was in her best interest to do so. , she replied. She had a feeling that not knowing her vocabulary would do him good in future. And she could not be bothered, but thatโ€™s beside the point.

Perhaps due to a number of characteristics, such as presence of weapon, badges of Royal Order, and individuals like Kirara herself, they received stares of fascination and caution alike. Given Ferox being well-known by many of the town as the tavern ownerโ€™s son, was more likely the reason behind more public attention. All in all, the people of Andford were warm and welcoming. โ€, beamed Kirara, nudging Ferox with her elbow. Nevertheless, Kirara initiated the most effective ritual of bonding, popular even among the lowest of scums - drinking party.

In a span of few hours it was as clear as a sunny day and the water of Andfordโ€™s ocean who benefitted most from the absolutely free of cost service for the Royal Order. Kirara had about a dozen of pints, from her n-th refill, as though trophies of victory over some of the local patrons of the tavern. Whatever that flawed ascension did to her body, thanks to that Kirara got only a little tipsy from the liquor she chugged down, pint after pint of expensive alcohol, she would never get to enjoy otherwise along with Andfordโ€™s delicacy of snacks to go along with it.

By the time they were in the market plaza, Kirara was too full to try more samples from the food stalls. Nonetheless, her engrossed gaze betrayed her captivation. It was the very first time in decades she could afford a stroll, so unrestricted in the open, without having to look over her shoulder. Perhaps it was the alcohol but the tour of the town invoked a warm and fuzzy feeling in her chest. Though she almost got into an argument with a shopkeeper over the price of fish cutlets, but even that was liberating. As the day went on, she was sobering up, carving the lively plaza and the fountain and everything else into her memory.

Finally, seemingly as the last stoppage of their tour, Amissa guided them on a path to a picturesque view of ocean, where shades of oranges, reds and yellows melted from the sun at the horizon. Kirara hardly knew a thing about art. But at that very moment, she recalled a smuggled landscape of ocean by a renowned painter, and the view in front of her so much more exquisite in contrast that she almost wished she had her other eye to take in more of it. Kirara took a glance at Amissa from her peripheral view, furtively thankful for bringing her here. Busy towns had their charm but places like these were what Kirara took special notes of.

She took a moment to gather her thoughts before answering her question. โ€], she shared, in both speech and sign, then turn to face ocean again, letting the salty wind blow away the strands of black hairs covering her eye. โ€], she added and went quiet.

A sudden realization dawned on Ivadriel as they made it to the tavern. He hadnโ€™t realized until that moment that heโ€™d forgotten to pack spare clothes. He was too caught up in how โ€œeasyโ€ the mission seemed, he turned a blind eye to everything else. But with his optimistic smile remaining, he paced behind his team with a slowed pace, taking in his surroundings. Initially, the friendly greetings of the locals and patrons were a warm welcome. But the further they went, Ivadriel felt as more and more eyes were on him, peering into his soul. A feeling of dread began to set in, his muscles tensing and his smile turning empty. There were far too many people for his liking. There was barely any room left to breathe, as if the walls began to tighten around him.

With a smile, Ivadriel decided to excuse himself and wait outside until the others were finished dropping off their belongings.

As Amissa and Kirara emerged from the tavern, Ivadriel followed behind. He kept the same distance as before, far enough so nobody could touch him. Soon a lively plaza unfolded before his eyes, and Ivadrielโ€™s tension began to fade. His smile was once again filled with enthusiasm, his wide eyes shining in awe. He looked around the stalls, taking in the variety of items he could buy. His attention landed on a herbs and tea merchant and he split from his group in the blink of an eye. He wandered around from stall to stall, staring at things that were completely ordinary to others. Like cheese. He got carried away to the point he began asking merchants for food recipes and spices. And by the time he finished, he was already carrying two bags of different food ingredients and herbs, and a long list of recipes he could barely read.

Ivadriel found himself sitting down by the fountain, taking in the calming sound of flowing water as the sunshine warmed his face. He smiled contently as he rested, chuckling from time to time at the children playing by its sides and parents running after them. But it was almost bittersweet, how the sight before him was something heโ€™d never get to experience.

He quickly rejoined his group, waiting in line with Amissa and Kirara for the fruit that was so dearly beloved. He couldnโ€™t hold back from laughing at the amount of alcohol Kirara had drunk, but he was no better in his spendings. Once bought, the colors of the fruit captivated Ivadriel more than the taste, as heโ€™d spent minutes staring at it without even taking a bite.

As they ascended up the hill, he followed with an energized pace, taking in the view from afar. At the top, he sat down in the grass and laid back. With the izunut untouched in his hand, he alternated between looking at Amissa and the ocean. He felt that if he looked away from the view for a moment, heโ€™d miss the sunset. The golden and orange hues, reflecting off itโ€™s mirror-like surface, it would be a sight only seen in dreams.

Ivadriel took note of Amissaโ€™s explanations and the guild she spoke of. He felt heโ€™d been silent for a while, so he decided to speak up. โ€œI had so much fun today, thank you Amissa!โ€ he smiled warmly. โ€œThis place is really beautiful, too.โ€

When Amissa asked about their reasons for joining the organization, Ivadriel listened as Kirara told her story, twirling the fruit in his hand. He chimed in, โ€œIโ€™m glad you got the opportunity to turn your life around.โ€ He paused for a moment to organize his thoughts before taking a deep breath. โ€œWell, I joined this organization because I agree with its goals. I hope for a world where everyone is safe and at peace, and I want to be one of the people who work for that change. I know I canโ€™t do much alone, but I want to make a difference, no matter how small,โ€ he replied, his smile growing wider. โ€œI know, itโ€™s a bit idealistic, but it keeps me going. And what about you, Amissa?โ€ he asked, turning towards her so he could see her answer.

The morning sun cast its golden rays upon the grand halls of Duxโ€™s office. The trio set for the mission consisted of Glacia, Destin, and Aurelia. Following the instructions outlined in the mission file, they entered Duxโ€™s office the next morning. Behind the desk, Dux greeted them warmly before adopting a serious demeanor.

"I want to discuss your mission,โ€ he began. โ€œWeโ€™ve been asked to identify the type of magic artifact used for the escape. Your badges possess the ability to sense different types of magic, especially dark or forbidden magic. If your badge glows purple, turn around immediatelyโ€”no engagement. Dark magic is beyond your readiness. Contact us and await further instructions."

Though the warning was familiar from their training, Duxโ€™s unease lingered, prompting him to give them one last encouraging smile. โ€œYouโ€™re ready for this challenge. Good luck,โ€ he said as they departed, leaving him to summon Cruor for a private discussion about the missionโ€™s potential dangers.

Meanwhile, the new recruits embarked towards the teleportation portal, their destination set for Nodale, where Hemal awaited their arrival. He escorded them to a nearby tent hidden between the tightly located market stalls filled with smells of herbs, spices, incense, paired with colorful fabrics, jewels and people. Itโ€™s like stepping foot into a different country or kingdom.

As they sit down, Hemal gives them a cup of tea made of different herbs and flowers, giving off a strong scent with a calming effect. โ€œFor a while now, we have been plagued by the actions of a cunning band of thieves, their exploits striking at the very heart of our pride and joy. These bandits have boldly pilfered stolen metals and mana crystals from the mines of Syreshi Groves and Burnach Caverns. Attempts to apprehend these rogues have been thwarted at every turn, for they use a mysterious artifacts procured froma different kingdom. Our efforts have been futile, our hands bound. It is for this reason, that we ask for your help. Our priority is finding out the type of magic so we can find ,Dux thought it would be a vaulubel oppertunity to see first hand what the usual type of missions youโ€™ll get. but if things get too advanced weโ€™ll regroup.โ€ he explained. "Though we have located their clandestine hideaway amidst the treacherous peaks of the Tancen Mountains, the bandits remain elusive, slipping through our grasp like shadows in the night. Our strategy is one of cautious investigation, for we dare not confront them until we are certain of victory.โ€ he explains.

Iโ€™m leaving the process of research to you, be creative and have some fun with it. I can give hints in the DM if you want. I will join in when needed and right before the break through in narration. But have some freedome in the work process of you as a team. Iโ€™ll provide all knowledge your character has if you need me to, but again, youโ€™re also free to make things up yourself.

Amissa felt a glimmer of delight as she observed Ivadriel and Kirara reveling in the wonders of the places she guided them through. Their appreciation warmed her heart, and she gracefully accepted Ivadrielโ€™s expressions of gratitude for her guidance. In response, she offered a gentle smile and a nod, her eyes reflecting the sincerity of her pleasure in showing them around.

Amissa listened intently to their tales, her hands moving gracefully in the language of signs. When Kirara referred to Dux as her father, Amissa couldnโ€™t contain her amusement, her hands fluttering in laughter as she clarified that Dux wasnโ€™t actually her father, nor were they related by blood. As Ivadriel finish to share his own story, Amissa nodded in agreement, indicating that it was only fair she revealed a piece of her own history.

She recounted how Dux had a penchant for taking in those who found themselves on the brink of despair, including herself. Amissa explained how she was discovered by Dux when she was just a child, in the early days of the organization. [โ€œDux has a unique ability to see the potential in people, even when they themselves cannot,โ€] she signed, her expression serious as she gazed ahead. [โ€œMany members of our organization were once considered criminals or adversaries,โ€] she continued, her hands moving with purpose. [โ€œWe donโ€™t dwell on their pasts; we judge them based on their actions and their commitment to our cause.

Despite her warm smile and reassuring demeanor, a shadow crossed Amissaโ€™s features as she spoke of the organizationโ€™s familial bonds. She couldnโ€™t help but be reminded of the loved ones she had lost over the years, a somber reminder of the sacrifices made in their line of duty.

With a graceful turn, she faced Ivadriel, her gaze steady and wise. [โ€œIdealistic aspirations serve as the fire that fuels our journey. Let them guide you, for as long as they keep your spirit alight, they are worthy.

Then, her attention shifted to Kirara, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. [โ€œThe mere purpose alone holds little weight. What truly intrigues me is the force behind it, the driving passion that propels individuals forward through the trials of life.

With a thoughtful gaze, she directed her attention to Ivadriel. [โ€œIdeals serve as the sparks that ignite our souls, propelling us forward. Regardless of their nature, if they fuel your journey, they suffice,โ€* ] she imparted, her words carrying a wisdom borne of experience. Turning next to Kirara, her eyes held a keen interest. [โ€œUnderstanding the driving forces behind individuals offers insight into their character, revealing the depths of their loyalty and the strength of their resolve.โ€] She explained.

[โ€œI like to believe that the bonds woven within our organisation will strengthen for you as well, allowing you to share the shadows of your past openly and proudly. But be patient, there are truths within our organization that we shield from new eyes, but in time, you shall unravel the tapestry of our shared historyโ€”both its triumphs and its sorrows.โ€] Amissa conveyed through graceful signs, her hands weaving a silent tale of secrets yet to be unveiled.

ORP : Gonna assume theyโ€™re sharing bed then.

With agreement from both parties, they decided to call it a night and head for the bed to get some shut-eye. Yuuta was just about to reach his hands out for Flake when Rhydal scooped the dozing furrball up in his arms ever-so-gently that he languidly blinked a few times and drifted back into slumber once again. He caught the serene smile on Rhydalโ€™s face before their eyes met and he nodded at their allocated room. โ€˜Heโ€™s a really caring person. He must have taken care of someone before to be so natural at this.โ€™ Yuuta thought, but his smile faded a little, as the door creaked open to reveal one big bed in the middle of the room. So that was what Flayke meant by snuggling up with Flake. They exchanged an awkward glance and Rhydal immediately offered to sleep on the floor. Yuuta shook his head. The later it was getting at night, the lower was the temperature dropping. Instead of offering to take the floor for himself, Yuuta reasoned with Rhydal that it was most logical to sleep together, unless the other was really too against the idea. And so they did.

Flayke having mentioned no specified time for the commencement of the search, they both woke up pretty early. Yuuta came downstairs with Rhydal to be greeted by a delicious scent wafting from the breakfast freshly prepared by Flayke. Yuuta saw his lips moving in a greeting and he greeted back. [Good morning.] Flayke apologised realising late that Yuuta was deaf and Yuuta in return apologised for coming out himself and forgetting to introduce himself. Since anybody calling him verbally by his name, when he would not be looking, was pointless, it tended to easily slip his mind. In any case, he asked Flayke use the same โ€œFriendโ€ sign for his name as he had allowed Rhydal to use.

The breakfast itself was delectable. But what little information Flayke shared with them was still incomplete since his own investigation about the missing kidโ€™s parents and potential bullies was overdue. But considering the gravity of the situation, they had to split their duties. Two of them would venture out in the open and Flayke would interrogate people related to the case. [Weโ€™ll try to stabilise him to the best our abilities, should we locate him. Please let us know what you gather from your investigation.] And after that they geared up and set out, taking heed of Flaykeโ€™s warning.

Going past the gates of the town, from there on stretched the realm of white to the unknown. Thick layers of snow forever concealed the land underneath, where the forest of coniferous trees stood tall, that never swayed due to frost weighing down their branches. [We would have frozen to death, if it werenโ€™t for the cold resistance crystals and warm clothes.] Yuuta admitted gratefully as they trudged through the snow, taking in the sights but also vigilant and heavily focusing on his senses to pick up the miniscule of details. Aside from the trees, the signs of life were low in the extremities of living conditions. Whichever endemic species inhabited here kept their presence well hidden. The freezing air carried the mana of nature. That seemed to be their only. [Letโ€™s focus on the concentration of mana in the air. If the kidโ€™s magic is pouring out uncontrolled, the air would bear its traces.]

Eventually they arrived at the frozen lake in the middle of the forest, a spectacular landscape, which could as a landmark in a place whereever you laid your eyes upon, there laid nothing but snow-covered trees, all very identical to each other. The air seemed to hang each here solidly, richer in concentration of mana, perhaps due to the lakeโ€™s ecosystem. Yuuta looked at Rhydal wondering if they should keep searching together or spilt up here.

Glacia Aquaticus

With the short vacation after the graduation from the Knightโ€™s academy along with 2 years of additional training, being over, it was time Glacia walked the path of his dreams as a full-fledged Knight. The Aquaticus household was a mess while seeing him off.

โ€œDid you pack everything you need?โ€
โ€œDonโ€™t forget to write us weekly. Every other day, if youโ€™re bored.โ€
โ€œIโ€™m giving you my sapphire earrings as a gift, in case, you know, you find a girl. They look good with your hair. And donโ€™t forget your skincare.โ€
โ€œDonโ€™t lose Isa. Dear, you can come back when you want. Itโ€™s not too late to get a job as teacher in your sisterโ€™s school.

He gave a little wave and left.

Glacia met his first companions at Duxโ€™s office where they were given specific instructions about the mission and the artefact they were to locate. Dux voiced the same words of warning as the professors of the academy repeated time and time again, no further questions asked, nor answered. Glacia pressed his forearm horizontally against the middle part of his torso, and bent into a small bow to his superior, before leaving his office to meet up with his companions.

Glacia was psyched for his first mission. It was somewhat selfish and shallow, but Glacia needed this platform to prove his worth, for the self-satisfaction to cure the frustration he had bottled up from hearing people criticising his choices, and to make his mistakes right, as the ice-wizard who trained to become a Knight. Although none of that was betrayed by his face that was forever as frozen as the ice his wand could create. Glacia approached Destin and Aurelia outside the office and cleared his throat. โ€, He introduced himself almost mechanically, and shook their hands.

Together along with his squad, they teleported to Nodale and met up with Hemal, who brought them to his tent and explained their mission to them. From the information on the flyer Glacia had assumed it would be an easy mission. They could surround the bandits at their base and apprehend them as well as confiscate the items. But from Hemalโ€™s explanation it was clear that apprehension turned out to be not as easy as it seemed and the root of the problem was the artefact which most likely would be taken to be researched on upon confiscation. A surprise attack could pan out to be potentially useless, without pinpointing the exactly abilities of the artefact. With threat of dark magic lingering above their heads, it could also put them in grave danger. Under such conditions, Glacia was thinking along the trajectory of either observing their movements from afar or infiltrating the group. Either way, visiting the hideout was a first. Before voicing his opinion he waited for his companionsโ€™ input.

Destin woke up at first light, he thought back to his dream and shook his head, โ€œNo, today is going to be a good day.โ€ He took a quick warm shower before suiting up in front of the mirror. He had been told that he should try chain mail or maybe something heavier like plate mail, but Destin disliked the notion of being soooโ€ฆwhat was the word? Overprotected, he was a medic after all, not some soldier who needed the extra protection. He sighed as his eyes fell across his medic bag, he could still hear the taunting remarks of the other cadets, โ€œReally? Youโ€™re going to be a what? Medic? Hahahahaha, medics are useless, why would we call you when there are dozens of healing mages and clerics?โ€ Some days it was hard not think they were- โ€œNo.โ€ Destin said aloud once again, this time more forcefully, โ€œToday is going to be a good day, noโ€ฆa great day.โ€ With a soft smile he grabbed his medic bag and walked towards the library the mission he was assigned to, wasnโ€™t for a another few hours.

After the briefing

Mere moments after they had left the office, Destin was approached by the other male in their group who earnestly shook hands with him and the girl beside him, "๐‡๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ, ๐ˆโ€™๐ฆ ๐†๐ฅ๐š๐œ๐ข๐š ๐€๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ฎ๐ฌ. โ€ โ€œDestin Silverfall.โ€

After they discussed what to do, Destin spoke up, โ€œWe could pose as travelling merchants looking to trade and sell. Thatโ€™s about all I have at the moment, not really a โ€˜tacticsโ€™ guy.โ€

Kirara raised her brows slightly in surprise at Amissa correcting her about Dux not actually being her father. Instead of a sour tone, the declaration, however, came with a note of bliss in Amissaโ€™s features. Kirara understood. After all, to her blood relations were nothing but a curse on her life, mostly. The record of acquaintances had a few blemishes, but it had its good parts too, one of which led to where she was standing now. She averted her gaze a little to look at the ocean from the corner of her eye. โ€ , she did not sign, but she mumbled while facing Amissa.

With her hands in the pockets, she walked towards the edge of the cliff to her side. The red orb had already submerged its three quarters into water and the sky now had strokes of violet in it. Kirara undid the knot around her waist and put her jacket on the ground. Sitting down on it, she let one of her leg hang from the cliff bending the other knee to her torso before going for a roughsmog while Iva went on with his reason for enlistment. Sure, to her ears it sounded like something a bright-eyed young adult would say. โ€ Yeah, he should see how the world actually was with his own eyes.

Huffing smoke through her teeth, Kiara stared blankly at Amissaโ€™s dainty fingers as they glided gracefully in the air, weaving words with every motion. โ€œDriving passionโ€, if she was not wrong in her interpretation, that was what Amissa said. What was driving passion? Running from her clan? Running from herself? Running along with others to the unknown for some lofty goals in mind or for the heroic gratification of saving someone? In this group of misfits, everyone had a story they would like to keep to themselves. Having a shadow darkening at her features, even for the briefest of moments, was indicative enough to assume even the prim and proper eloquent Amissa was no exception. With her, bluntness, and shallow and selfish conviction Kirara might have just landed herself in the โ€œbad-guyโ€ book on her very first mission, but at the very least she was coming clean.

Seeing one bed made Rhydal freeze at the doorframe. His first thought was to give it over to Yuuta, to avoid discomfort between them. He couldโ€™ve slept on the ground, he reasoned, the stiffness after wouldโ€™ve been nothing new. And Yuuta seemed pretty young, too, judging by his appearance, height andโ€ฆ The candy. It was Rhydalโ€™s job as an adult to make sacrifices. But then Yuuta argued against him, proposing an alternative that made him reconsider things. He thought โ€” it was a mission, the question of discomfort shouldnโ€™t matter when they should be focusing on quality rest. As he looked at Flayke in his arms, all curled up and already half asleep, he decided. Yuuta canโ€™t have him all to himself.

As soon as the sun rose, Rhydal got out of bed. His thoughts were already overflowing with what the day held. Possible plans, unseen events, accidents, his mind wouldnโ€™t let him rest one bit. And there was awkwardness lingering in the air after sharing a bed with a stranger. He greeted Yuuta with a half smile, before getting ready for the morning.

Downstairs, the two were greeted by Flayke, who was already full of energy so early in the morning. โ€œMorning,โ€ Rhydal greeted, making his way to the table.

He stayed mostly silent during breakfast, but listened carefully to what Flayke had to say. Splitting their duties was a good tactic, less to worry about. He thought, finding the kid was likely the least of their problems. Approaching him when heโ€™s already vulnerable, and then reasoning with him would be a difficult task. Especially for someone like Rhydal, who had a reputation of scaring people even if he had the best intentions. Not only that, but the questions Yuuta mentioned the previous night were still on his mind. Nothing that Flayke said answered them, but Rhydal wasnโ€™t sure if it was his place to ask. He glanced at Yuuta for a moment, checking what heโ€™d do. But he only confirmed heโ€™s on board and asked to receive information from Flayke. Rhydal nodded. [โ€œI agree. Iโ€™d like to help solve this case to the best of my abilities. If we donโ€™t manage to find the kid, any additional information would be valuable,โ€] he added, both in sign and verbal speech.

As they prepared to depart, Rhydal put on some extra layers of clothing just in case. He nodded, showing he understood the warning, before waving goodbye to Flayke. He slipped his goggles over his eyes and headed out with Yuuta.

The two made their way outside of Tore, into the forest where their first clue potentially hid. Rhydal kept his head down as they walked, watching for any sign of footsteps or lost objects that could lead them to the kid. But the snow kept falling, covering every trace. Heโ€™d tried to focus his hearing as well, since Yuuta couldnโ€™t pick up any sounds. But it was eerily silent, aside from their own footsteps. He looked up at Yuuta from time to time, making sure he doesnโ€™t miss when he speaks.

Yuuta pointed out his thankfulness for the crystals, but Rhydal could barely feel anything through the layers of clothes. Or maybe theyโ€™d already gone numb. [I suppose these do help. Iโ€™m not too sure, I havenโ€™t been exposed to extremely cold weather,] he shrugged. [But why did you mention that? Are you cold?] he asked, his expression neutral despite his growing concern.

As the snowflakes filled the space around them and a chilly breeze swept across the air, traces of magic seemed to linger. Its presence, though faint, alerted Rhydal and he turned towards Yuuta. It seemed heโ€™d noticed it as well. As he suggested they focus on following its traces, Rhydal nodded in agreement. [I sensed it too. Good to know weโ€™re on the right path, for now,] he signed. Rhydal then put out his palm as if to signal a pause, before stopping his walk and closing his eyes. He focused on the mana in the air, letting his senses guide him to where itโ€™s densest.

Making their way forward, the tall trees towering over them was a bitter reminder of his hometown. Though the smell of pine and snow covering added an unfamiliar twist, it did nothing to deter his thoughts of what heโ€™d left behind. Rhydal grew tired of the landscape only a few minutes in. But if there was one positive side to it, was that he was accustomed to navigating mazes of trees.

The two found themselves in front of a frozen lake, the second location Flayke had mentioned. Its surface showed a captivating image, mirroring its surroundings almost perfectly. But all around it were trees, trees and more trees. It was as if they couldnโ€™t escape the forest, no matter how far they went. Rhydal made eye contact with Yuuta, as he wondered whether theyโ€™d split or not. Rhydal took a moment to think, before voicing his thoughts. [I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s safe to split up. Though it would help us cover more ground, itโ€™s an unfamiliar environment and Iโ€™m suspicious about what else could be hiding in here,] he explained. [And, this place is very silent. The entire time I couldnโ€™t pick up any clues, aside from mana.]

โ€œNice to meet you, Glacius,โ€ Aurelia responded with a gentle tone. She then turned her attention to the broad knight in armor who introduced himself as Destin Silverfall. โ€œAurelia,โ€ she offered, doing as the other two had.

As they teleported to Nodale, Aurelia couldnโ€™t help but feel a slight sense of unease at the sudden shift in surroundings. She watched as the others appeared unfazed by the transition, their expressions steady and focused.

Sitting down, Hemal graciously offered them a cup of tea made from a blend of herbs and flowers, its calming scent enveloping the tent. Aurelia took a sip, feeling a sense of tranquility wash over her as Hemal began to explain the reason for their presence.

Listening attentively, Aurelia became engrossed in Hemalโ€™s words as he detailed the challenges they faced with the band of thieves. She admired the determination and resolve in his voice, the urgency of the situation clear in his demeanor.

Destinโ€™s suggestion of posing as traveling merchants caught Aureliaโ€™s attention, and she nodded in agreement. โ€œIt could be a good way to gather information discreetly and gives us a reason to be talking,โ€ she chimed in softly, her gaze thoughtful. Despite the dangers that lay ahead, Aurelia was ready to face them head-on, her compassion and loyalty driving her towards justice and peace.

She considered the intricacies of the situation, the need for caution and precision in their approach echoing Hemalโ€™s words in her mind. โ€œPerhaps we could utilize our individual skill sets to enhance the effectiveness of our disguise,โ€ Aurelia suggested, her voice gentle yet resonant. โ€œWhat skills are you guys bringing to the table?โ€

As the two recruits venture toward the lakeโ€™s edge, they observe the ice, so thick that the water beneath remains concealed in mystery. A potent aura of magic emanates from the icy surface, captivating their senses. The mana flow felt like subtle shiver that creeps along the spine when you step into a dimly lit room with a faint draft, the cold tendrils of air weaving around you like ghostly fingers. Itโ€™s a sensation that hints at mystery and intrigue, leaving a lingering chill that prickles the skin with a whisper of apprehension.
Intrigued, the two recruits decide to step onto the enchanted ice, drawn by an irresistible curiosity.

As they traverse the frozen expanse towards the center, a colossal shadow stirs beneath the ice, catching their attention. With wide-eyes, they witness the shadowโ€™s movements, disappearing momentarily only to reappear, causing the ice to tremble violently. A haunting howl, a lamentation tinged with both sadness and anger, echoes from the depths below.

Undeterred, the recruits watch as the shadow, relentless in its efforts, hurls itself against the unyielding ice, yet the enchanted barrier remains unscathed, resisting any attempts to break its mystical seal.

In addition, a residual flow of mana lingers, distinct from the ethereal energies emanating from the lake, yet equally potent, emanating from the depths of the denser part of the woods. Itโ€™s the sensation of a delicate shiver dancing along your skin, akin to the gentle touch of frost at dawn. This feeling carries with it a crispness, as if each breath inhales the essence of a winter morning, leaving behind a lingering freshness that invigorates the senses.

Glacia looked down at his cup of herbal tea, swirling the liquid in it, a little, before he took a sip of it. Not bad per se, but this stuff definitely tasted different from whatever Firtha, his third elder sister usually served. Firtha liked her tea very sweet and with strong flowery scent, while Hemalโ€™s tea tasted less sugary and having more nutritive value, and additionally the calming properties. He should ask Hemal for the recipe for his sisโ€”No, wait, the mission. โ€˜Focus on the mission!โ€™ Pathetic. He should not let himself be swayed like this.

With the mental clarity given by the herbal tea, Glacia reverted his attention back to Silverfall, as he began to speak and considered his proposition of posing as wandering merchants. For someone who called himself โ€œnot a tactics guyโ€, his idea gave the impression to Glacia of being a better one than the other two he had come up with on the spot. It sounded less time-consuming, at the very least. The other one with sunset tinted complexion who called him a male-version of his name which should have been his first name in reality, Aurelia voiced her agreement to the idea. Now that it was automatically unanimously approved of, Glacia spoke. โ€ The bandits might have stolen goods to sell in exchange for necessities. That should give them an excuse to look at their items.

Aurelia implied that they should execute the mission in disguise. Glacia contemplated if there was really any need to go out of the way to alter their appearances, since without the Royal Orderโ€™s insignia, fresh candidates like them were hardly recognisable. He brought the cup to his lips to take the last sip. โ€, replied Glacia to the question of what skills everyone in the squad brought to the table. From the signs on his pauldrons, Glacia assumed Destine to be some sort of healer, which was useful. Rhydal appeared unfazed by the effectiveness of their overall protection against the cold, which Yuuta was quite impressed by the performance of a small crystal attached to his badge, himself. Perhaps due to Rhydalโ€™s bodyโ€™s constitution as a fire mage made his natural temperature warmer than others, keeping him from feeling cold when he was in his own habitat during winters, hence it might not feel odd for him to standing in the snow and not feel anything. Not that Yuuta was feeling cold himself at the moment . Rhydalโ€™s statement somewhat confirmed his assumption. He shook his head in disagreement when asked about feeling the cold. [It feels kinda odd, crossing a snow field and feeling nothing. Since my ears are basically of no use , my other senses helps me get through. Itโ€™s not the best feeling when your tactile and visionary signals are contradictory.], he explained. [Itโ€™s no big deal though. Shouldnโ€™t get in your way. Haha.], Yuuta reassured quickly with a chuckle, somewhat apologetically and shrugged off the matter.

Yuuta stiffened, staying silent and inexpressive for the rest of their way until they reached the frozen lake.

A bittersweet smile seeped through his lips as Rhydal understood what he meant to say without even having to interpret his thoughts into signs. He voiced the same concerns. Additionally, Rhydal mentioned that the mana trail was the only clue they were both following. Knowing he was not being left out on anything somewhat relieved the insecurity that tormented him with every step. Yuuta nodded his head in agreement. [Letโ€™s search together.] Initially the plan was to consider this frozen lake as their landmark and starting point, and then venture into the forest leaving marks on the almost identical trees so that they could trace their steps back in case they got lost. But then it happened out of the blue, before they could set out.

The mana concentration in the air surged suddenly surged, all trails converging into the centre of the lake. Yuuta glanced at Rhydal before they both stepped on the frozen surface, nearing with vigilant steps. Even with all the cold-protection on, the mana infused chilled air pierced through the warm layers and made itself known. Looking down, Yuuta watched, stationary at his spot, as the shadow thrashed against the transparent surface, some sort of magical barrier as it seemed, or else it would have shattered or at least cracked from the impact. Yuuta crouched down, his left thumb on the hand guard of his sheathed Katana, now suspended from his belt with a sageo, as he placed his right palm on the surface. He looked up at Rhydal, [Itโ€™s a barrier.]

But what exactly was this shadow? An endemic creature of this lake? A spirit of nature? Yuutaโ€™s world despite being as silent as ever, he too felt the sound waves and raw emotions of rage and sorrow tingle his other senses. Whatever it was, it was trapped inside, doing everything it could to break out. Yuuta considered his options. What if it was a monster? Releasing it would land them in a bigger trouble. But what ifโ€ฆjust what ifโ€ฆ It was the boy they were looking for? Yuuta held Rhydalโ€™s arm to make him look at him, [There was a noise, right? Should I break the ice?]

When the girl had introduced herself as Aurelia, he noticed a pair of wings fluttering behind her, He had to make an effort not to stare. He had so many questions, however despite his curiosity, he knew now wasnโ€™t the best time to ask them all. He read about so many speciesโ€™, specifically their anatomy, should he ever have to treat one, each one was just as fascinating as the last.

Destin then snapped out of his thoughts as they went through the teleporter, not wanting to be distracted or left behind.

Aurelia spoke up after his suggestion, her voice soft as the windโ€™s whistle, "It could be a good way to gather information discreetly and gives us a reason to be talking,โ€ He waited for Glaciusโ€™ thoughts but to his surprise, it seemed as though they were going with it, "๐–๐žโ€™๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ง๐ž๐ž๐ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ž๐š๐ฅ.โ€ Before he could say heโ€™d like to hear everyone elseโ€™s ideas, Aurelia spoke up once more, "โ€œPerhaps we could utilize our individual skill sets to enhance the effectiveness of our disguise, what skills are you guys bringing to the table?โ€ Destin hesitated for a moment, but luckily for him, Glaciusโ€™s answer swiftly filled the brief silence, "๐€ ๐ค๐ง๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ.โ€ A simple but unfortunately brief answer, now it was time to face the music, he knew heโ€™d have to bring up his complete lack of any skill and/or actual talent when it came to things like combat, persuading people, magic, reading maps, nautical skills, just anything actually useful. Well, he was fairly proficient with martial arts/self-defense however his aversion to go on the offense with it pushed that into the unusefulness column. โ€ Glacius corrected. Destin took a breath, it was his turn, "Look, Iโ€™m going to be straight with you both. Iโ€™m just a medic, I donโ€™t carry or use weapons. I also do not kill, maim, or injure. All I have is my med bag, this leather armor, and thatโ€™s it. If you would rather work with someone else I completely understand and will put in the transfer request myself. With the teleporter you can have someone else more to your liking arrive within seconds.

Watching the sunset from the edge of a hill was a sight to behold, as it dipped below the horizon and reflected across the ocean. Ivadriel found himself mesmerized by the hues painting the sky and the earth, itโ€™s warm tones washing over his own body. It was a peaceful moment, with a friendly conversation and good food, and yetโ€ฆ Ivadrielโ€™s muscles were tense beneath his wide smile. Though he gave the illusion of a tranquil mood as he lay down, he was constantly questioning and analyzing Amissa and Kirara. He didnโ€™t think to suspect Amissa at first, she was introduced to them by Dux himself. But the way her body was covered in burn marks and her lack of speech raised suspicion. Ivadriel could already tell just by her appearance that thereโ€™s more hiding beneath her kindness. Such a trustworthy person, so wise and generous to guide them, or maybe she wanted them to let their guard down. He was all alone on a hill with two near-strangers, both of which look like theyโ€™d been through hell. And to survive and keep going, they had to be exceptionally strong. He couldnโ€™t underestimate anyone.

Ivadriel had asked Amissa about her reason for joining, hoping to get a little more information on her. He sat up and crossed his legs, paying attention as she told her story. He gave her a sympathetic smile, nodding along. โ€œIt seems youโ€™ve had a tough life, havenโ€™t you? On the brink of despair as a child? Nobody should live through that,โ€ he spoke softly. A part of what she said resonated with Ivadrielโ€™s past. He was young too, far too young for everything that happened. Looking away for a moment, he brought his knees to his chest. โ€œDux sounds like a kind man. But what am I saying? Thatโ€™s a given with this organization,โ€ he added with a smile, turning to face her again. But what she said at the end, about criminals and foes in their ranks, stuck out to him especially. He couldnโ€™t help but wonder how many of them hid among the members.

He listened as the two gave him their thoughts on his goal. First was Amissa, to which he nodded. โ€œItโ€™s impossible to extinguish my spirit. Iโ€™ve made up my mind long ago and my goals canโ€™t be changed.โ€ He then turned to Kirara as she replied, trying to decipher her words to the best of his abilities. He chuckled, โ€œOh, donโ€™t worry, I donโ€™t care. Iโ€™m doing this no matter what. I guess you could take my idealism now as a warning, because I tend to be very stubborn, even with unrealistic goals,โ€ he explained playfully.

As Amissa continued to speak, Ivadriel found himself leaning on his palms. She told them of ideals and driving forces, what truly motivates all the members. Ivadriel couldnโ€™t help but wonder the same thing. Even though heโ€™d spent a year training with his current group, he knew nearly nothing of them and their pasts. If only he could get a glimpse into their souls, any hint that would spell out for him whether they could be trusted or not. But for now, all he could do was smile and nod along to her words, taking his time to think about what she said. After she finished, Ivadriel turned to Kirara as she told her reasoning. โ€œHmm, I think there mustโ€™ve been something Dux saw in you. A potential to do good,โ€ he smiled. โ€œYou may not have a cause now, but joining this organization is already a step forward.โ€

Though his words carried reassurance, they felt empty to Ivadriel. Because truly, what Kirara said wasnโ€™t far off from his own reasoning. A greater cause to save the innocent and bring peace? Heโ€™d be lying to himself if he said that was his true goal. Ivadriel had seen the cruelty this world held from the moment he was brought into it. And if there was anything he wanted, fully and with all his heart, it was to be safe. And this was the best way to avoid trouble and get a chance at a normal life. But as he looked down at the fruit in his hand, untouched all this time, he began to wonder if that was even possible. And could he ever reveal this part of himself to the others? Could he ever trust them? Especially with how much the organization was hiding.

As Ivadriel sat there in contemplative silence for a few moments, he sighed and spoke up again. โ€œIf I may ask, what drives you two forward?โ€ he asked, lifting his head up.

Aurelia tried to picture it, but instead leveled her gaze at Glacius. โ€œMagic ice knight,โ€ she murmured to herself softly. "Look, Iโ€™m going to be straight with you both.โ€ She turned to look at Dustin, he seemedโ€ฆ nervous, she thought. โ€œIโ€™m just a medic, I donโ€™t carry or use weapons. I also do not kill, maim, or injure. All I have is my med bag, this leather armor, and thatโ€™s it. If you would rather work with someone else I completely understand and will put in the transfer request myself. With the teleporter you can have someone else more to your liking arrive within seconds.โ€ Aurelia tilted her head in confusion, studying him. Strange thing. โ€œWhy would we not want you? Your job is extremely important Dustin, healing and comforting others is a strength that should never be underestimated. Just because you choose not to carry weapons or harm others does not make you any less valuable. In fact, your commitment to nonviolence is something to be admired. I believe that our team can benefit greatly from your presence and I would be honored to work alongside you. You have a unique skill set that should be embraced, not overlooked. Let us continue our mission together, knowing that your healing touch is just as powerful, if not more so, than any weapon.โ€ Aurelia didnโ€™t leave room for Glacius to send their healer away.

โ€œIโ€™m a seraphim,โ€ her wings shook themselves out, as she realized that probably meant nothing to them. โ€œIโ€™m more an aerial fighter, as well I can manipulate wind currents. I cannot make them,โ€ she clarified. โ€œOh! I also Zephyrโ€™s Embrace!โ€ She excitedly said, pulling it from who knows where and plopping square on the table with no warning. Aureliaโ€™s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she presented Zephyrโ€™s Embrac, the seemingly weightless blade with an iridescent finish reminiscent of a rainbow, shimmering in the light. โ€œThis is my longsword, Zephyrโ€™s Embrace,โ€ she explained, her voice filled with pride. โ€œHeโ€™s imbued with the essence of wind, allowing me to manipulate air currents and create gusts of wind to aid us in battle. When I strike with this blade, a calm serenity fills our enemies, temporarily reducing their aggression.โ€ Aureliaโ€™s gentle smile radiated warmth and reassurance.

โ€œI have an idea, going back to provisions for a trade,โ€ Aurelia said, wrapping her hands around her cup.

Glacia Aquaticus

Glacia, having finished his herbal tea, had put down his cup and was waiting on the other two to state the classes of their skill-set, instead came Destinโ€™s ramblings. The first couple of sentence made sense to him, since Glacia had already assumed Destinโ€™s occupation having to do with medical attention. That being said, it was also common for healers to avoid violence, if possible. Glacia thought Destin was at the wrong place if he was going to be a saint, on top of being a medic. But while roughly listing his belongings, he never mentioned having a weapon to defend himself. It would be an entirely case of Destin was a brawler, except he was not. A medic, not some legendary healing magic user who could self-regenerate wounds in mere seconds, Destin, in fact, could very likely weigh the team down.

Aurelia, however, had a more benevolent response for him. Her idealistic opinions did not hold ground that much in real combat or so was he taught in the mock battles back in the academy. Destinโ€™s main skill was attending to otherโ€™s injury. He couldnโ€™t do that when he was injured himself. But her words held some truth. Having a medic in team was better than having none. It was not like Aurelia left much room for discussion anyway. On the other hand, from the second half of his rambling, it was safe to presume he had been rejected by teammates before for his skillset. That was something Glacia could empathise with, only a little bit. As a Knight, he should be protecting healers anyway. โ€ Glacia left it at all.

A seraphim, Aurelia called herself. That explained the wings and the skyey features. Rather than her aerial abilities, Glacia was more interested in her mesmarizing blade. Regardless of what it did, the longsword itself was beautiful. A real sword! Glacia always wanted to have his own sword, and fight with it. Instead he was stuck with a dagger, which was made from modifications done on Isa. The more she deviated from her original form, the more she whined. โ€œ๐๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐›๐ฅ๐š๐๐ž.โ€,he commented and darted his attention at Aurelia when she said she had a plan.

As they talked about their thoughts on the cold weather, Yuuta explained how disorienting it felt for him to lose another sense. He seemed rather concerned about getting in the way, but on the contrary. The silence of their conversation was quite convenient, making it easier for Rhydal to listen to the environment. [Iโ€™ll describe any sound to you, if I happen to hear anything. Focus on making the best of your remaining senses,] Rhydal reassured him.

The two continued along the path without speaking much, as Rhydal was preoccupied with his surroundings. They made it to the frozen lake, where the mana seemed to be highly concentrated. Rhydal was relieved they agreed on searching together. Having his teammate by his side gave him one less thing to worry about. Now if Yuuta were to get in danger, Rhydal could protect him easily.

The magic trail continued to lead their way to the center of the lake, as if its frozen surface was hiding something more. They met eyes before stepping on the ice, communicating their next direction silently. Rhydal followed behind Yuuta, his steps slow and cautious as he inspected the surface. His suspicions were raised as it stayed in tact, perfectly holding two people. And then a shadow passed beneath their feet and disappeared just as quickly. Rhydal couldnโ€™t believe his eyes at first. He lifted his goggles over his head to get a closer look, watching the colossal figureโ€™s movements.

A sudden howl pierced his ears, sending a rumbling through the surface. It made a chill run down his spine, his eyes going wide and his body stiffening in place. His head snapped towards Yuuta, wondering if it was too late to turn back.

As Yuuta pointed out the surface was a barrier, Rhydal nodded, but the question remained of how long it would hold. [That would explain a lot, however, Iโ€™m more concerned about what itโ€™s holding,] Rhydal signed in urgency. [In fact, I want to know why it was sealed inside.] His attention turned back to the shadow swimming beneath their feet, watching it closely. His thoughts became crowded with possibilities, his heartbeat drumming in his ears.

But a tug on his arm diverted his attention back to reality, his eyes turning back to Yuuta. He nodded to his question about the sound, taking a deep breath. [Yes, you felt it? Iโ€™m not the best at discerning emotions, butโ€ฆ But it sounded like a mix of frustration and sadness. Itโ€ฆ It was haunting,] he explained, moving his hands a bit quicker. His brows furrowed in concern at Yuutaโ€™s other question. He shook his head. There was too much danger and uncertainty, he couldnโ€™t even grasp Yuutaโ€™s reasoning. [Why would you break it? Do you want to face its wrath?] he asked.

For future reference

Rhydalโ€™s too focused on the lake to notice this now
