It’s still not right, though! Especially considering the story in question is practically a rip-off of a game. For someone who has had a story taken down for plagiarism before, you’d think the author would have looked up and understood copyright law!
The author’s only response was that the fan wasn’t a child. Anyone with a school project on their favourite author is a child/teenager, I’m sorry. We don’t have assignments like that at university, even in creative writing classes. Not that it’s ok to bully adults, anyway.

I was disappointed by the “thats an adult, she knew what she was doing” too.
Adults don’t present projects like that, and regardless of her age, adults can get confused with plagiarism and inspiration too.

Exactly! The author herself has had a story taken down for plagiarism. You think she’d be a little more sympathetic about that kind of thing! Especially when the fan clearly just wanted to make her happy!

I really don’t have any words about the situation. Many people say the author was wrong to do that to her fan, but at the same time, there’s nothing nobody can really do. The author thinks the person pretty much plagiarized and copied her story, which many people disagree on, but even if the person did “copy” her story, it was a bit mean to call that person out. As an author, a person has to know that people will get inspired by their stories and writings; it’s natural. You can’t put the label on them as a plagiarizer (that may or may not be a real word) so to speak.

Tbh I don’t think that’s a very good attitude to have. People who act like that need to be called out. There is something we can do: we can show that we won’t tolerate bullying and that we will distance ourselves from authors who do stuff like that.
To be honest, it doesn’t matter what she thinks. She’s proven before that she doesn’t understand copyright and this is yet another example. She had no right to act the way she did. It is a fact that being inspired by an author, crediting them, not making money off it and doing it for an educational reason all together mean no plagiarism

You’re right… I understand your point of view.
