When AJ saw the tears on Faust’s face he tried to comfort him saying ‘It’s all right, Faust.’ so he had to say back “No, no … These are happy tears. I’m glad the tears on my face glisten because they showcase how happy I am to see you, so I’ll wear them proudly like diamonds.” Faust often liked showing off with improvised, made up on the spot, words that sound melodic or romantic or poetic.
They got their drinks and started drinking when AJ said “You know, Faust, you always were the emotional one.” To which Faust nodded in agreement. AJ continued “Remember when we watched that sappy movie and you cried like a baby? What was it called again?” To which Faust shrugged and said “I don’t know.” But that was mostly becuase of the fact there were more than one movie he’d watch in his childhood that would’ve left him in tears. When AJ continued addind the detail that they watched in their childhood Faust thought of the meme ‘That doesn’t narrow it down’ and responded with “Honestly it could be anything from ‘All dogs go to heaven’ or ‘My girl’ which are made for children to ‘La vita bella’ which is about a Jewish family during a Nazi.” He was begging for more information but AJ, as if to tease him, decided not to give more information but dropped it. However, he couldn’t just go back to the previous point of conversation, not when AJ mentioned his kids missing Faust. “Of course they miss me …” he responded jokingly. “I’m the fun uncle. Who doesn’t miss the fun uncle? But seriously though … I can’t wait to see their little faces. I wish they could be invited on this event so I could see them sooner, but the sooner this event ends the sooner I can take Ezra with me to march to your house and give them all those x’s and o’s I wrote to them, finally in person.” The announcement has gotten off and Faust finished his drink in one gulp, which caused him to make a face. Getting up form the chair he put a hand around AJ’s neck and slapped him with the same hand on the shoulder, twice. “I have to go now, but we’ll see each other soon … Not like last time I promised that.”

He looked around looking for Ezra and when he noticed him going into the dining hall, he followed him. To ensure he’s safe he took a seat right next to Ezra. He wanted to ask how it went with him and Savannah, but he knew Ezra wouldn’t like it. However, he didn’t feel like talking much either. Not around these people … Talking with Savannah was different beause he felt he could trust her with being talkative with her, like he usually is … But he didn’t feel that way in the company around him, because he either didn’t know them or didn’t know them well enough, or didn’t feel like he could trust them … The attack made him more aware of the people he’s around and last year he might’ve talked to all of these people but … Not this year. Then there was the game … He would’ve played but he saw that he drew Ezra and that Ezra drew him, and he didn’t want to thank or diss Ezra knowing that Ezra would feel embarrased by Faust’s praise and embarrased an insult and would preffer not to have to thank his employer in front of a large crowd, he abstained form the game. He wanted to say somehting to Ezra, a private thank you, whispered low so he wouldn’t be embarrased. But then he realized that he could always cash in that ‘thank you’ anytime and that he doesn’t need to be forced to say it now.Not wanting to talk much he instead focused on the food and on the movie his brother mentioned. What could it be? Which movie did they watch constantly where he cried but AJ didn’t? He could not remeber because he’s already mentioned ‘All dogs go to heaven’ which is a movie where AJ was sad but didn’t shed quite as many tears as Faust did. Only near the end of the dinner, when dessert was about to be served, did he realize which movie AJ must’ve been talking about. It almost completely slipped his mind. Faust was frustrated with not remebering which movie AJ meant, so frustrated that he instead dropped it all and started remebering his attack and how close he was to dying. And then he thought about how it would’ve crushed his brother and Emily and Jack and his parents and although it scarred him, he was glad it happened this way, and that it didn’t affect him more than it did. But then he imagined his mother washing clothes she’s listening to the announcement of his fictional death on the radio and he realized that imagination was strange. He imagined his mother washing white sheets and putting them on a clothing line, while listening to one of those really old radios as if it were … And then it dawned on him. That wasn’t his mother he was imagining, it was Ritchie Valens’ as depicted in the movie about his life and death. He remebered it all … Ritchie’s girlfriend finding out about his death in the classroom, his brother shouting for his brother on the bridge, and his mother angrily tossing the washing and with tears in her eyes shouting ‘Not my Ritchie!’. That was the movie AJ was talking about. During their first watch of the movie AJ also cried, who wouldn’t cry, but maybe after so many rewatches that scene lost the impact on AJ and although he was sad, it didn’t bring on tears. But Faust felt excited that he discovered it, so excited and cheerful that he whispered out “La Bamba” loud enough for the guy on his right and Ezra on his left to hear what he just said. He also moved his hand while saying ‘La Bamba’ and it knocked over a glass of water over the guy on his right. Faust turned to him and started apologizing. “Oh I’m so sorry. Thankfully it looked like something easy to clean, I would’ve never forgiven myself if I acidentally doused you in red wine. Especially since your outfit is so white.” He wanted to add ‘But you could always spin it as an art piece and say the spill meant to be there, these celebs will believe it.’ However, he didn’t know if the person in there was a celeb, or if he would be offended by something like that, or if the guy had many friends who are like that, or if he himself was a guy who make his money from art pieces like that.
