“Sure beautiful… Why not. I’m sure they will love him on set.” Helen beamed back. “Thank you! He’s really a good boy.” when he wants to be. “Well hello there Pumpkin. Aren’t you a cute one.” Tommy was gentle, letting Pumpkin sniff him. She couldn’t help his smile as she set him on the passenger seat to situate her hoodie ordeal. “Yes, it is a little warm for a sweatshirt. However, it looked good on you Helen.” “Oh, you’re too kind Tommy.” She glanced over with a small smile.
Helen flicked down the sun visor mirror, quite comfortable for being in her boss’ car, and made sure she looked presentable. “So, how are you feeling after that speech Dave made at Thanksgiving? Have things been good with y’all?” He said offhandedly as the car pulled out. “I know it’s been almost a week. So just making sure he isn’t screwing it up.” Helen nodded, tucking the mirror back.
She sighed dramatically. “Honestly, we haven’t really talked since.” She answered truthfully, before murmuring almost inaudibly, “not that I’m complaining.” She wasn’t sure if Tommy was the person to tell her woes about Dave—but wait, wasn’t he actually the perfect candidate? He set them up. She just didn’t want to hear solutions to soothe whatever troubled her. Part of the reason for their fake dating was to expand audience. She was a literal star, a gem in Thailand. Tommy was an American athlete that everyone loved. They were doing their second movie together, the is was amazing press.
They rolled up to a stoplight, and she watched as a couple strolled by, hands intertwined, laughter spilling between them like a gentle cascade. Her heart twisted. She hated to admit it, but her thoughts strayed to Dave’s charming smile, his laughter, and the way he’d openly adored her as they played the perfect couple in front of cameras. That exhilaration had almost made her forget their arrangement was strictly business. “I just wish it felt more real,” she confessed, her voice small against the backdrop of the ocean’s roar. There was a long pause, thick with unspoken words, and Helen found herself gazing down at her hands. “It feels like I’m focusing more on this relationship than my work. And yes, I do know I agreed to help boost my work and image but…” She shook her head.
