Lysander

“Hello Lysander… what are you wearing?” The question made Lysander look down at this outfit. At that moment he felt like Eve when she learned shame. He didn’t ever feel badly about this outfit and it served him well, but now Beck asked that in that tone and with that hidden meaning behind, he felt the ugliest he ever did. It was also the first time in a long while that he cared about his appearance. “Well I always wear this, I’ve had it for years. If I went to more funerals or functions for civilians in my army days I would have had a few more suits, but seeing as I was always supposed to be seen in my fancy uniform, I had one back up suit…” He showed his suit by waving his arm over it like it was a magic trick. TA DA I’m wearing the same ugly suit. “And you’re looking at it.”.
When she decided to mock the suit by saying “At this point I’m wondering if you got this suit out of someone’s attic, but that’s why we’re going to pick out a new suit for you.” he would probably not care … Had it not been for the origin of the suit and the fact she was dead right. Lysander doesn’t cry often, he’s not about to cry now, but his eyes gloss over with the memory of the suit. To hide his glossy eyes in fear he might actually start crying and becasue he’s afraid to be vulnerable, he droops his head down so she can’t see his face. “It was my father’s … Before he died. When I came back to Cyprus from America I took it out for the first time and … I’ve been wearing it ever since I got big enough to fill it.” He looked up figuring if he hasn’t started crying yet, he wouldn’t start anytime soon. He wasn’t offended becuase he knew Beck didn’t mean to hurt his father and he knew she would maybe turn apologetic now. It was true this suit didn’t fit him and did nothing for him, because as big and bulky as he is, the fashion in 90s was all bulky and big and it even reached suits, but today the suit wouldn’t be seen as looking good on anybody. He was just not ready to be reminded of his father today, or his life before the protest.
Beck then did the sweetest thing, which helped him a great deal. She changed the subject and made the uncomfortable, sad athmosphere which threatened to plaque them mmore relaxed by averting the subject of his parents. And he was thankful she didn’t pry, he hates when people pry. Maybe it’s becuase then he feels something real, but that something real is pure pain and he’s rather be numb and push everything down than show any emotion or appear vulnerable so he could end up hurt again. “Did you already pick out some outfits to try on?” He took a breath of fresh air as she continued. “If you did we might have to immediately change them. I’m wearing a blue dress tonight so it has to go well.” He gave her a hint of a smile. He had no idea what she meant when she that becuase she’s wearing a blue dress means they have to make a bigger effort for it to go well, but he was afraid to ask. “No, I didn’t prepare anything. I knew whatever I picked myself would either be poorly matched, ugly or boring. Or …” He pointed at his suit again. “Or the fit might be wrong.” Then he continued. “It would serve me better to trust literally anybody else’s judgement and I hoped you might pick out something for me.” He took a breath and looked around. "But seeing as we’re crunched for time here, I’m going to option B. " This is why he half smiled earlier. He had a plan in case something went wrong and he was happy to be able to show how prepared he was. “Just in case, I contacted the owner of the store and gave them my measurments and the detailed the ocassion so they put a side a few outfits for me. I hope one of them is in blue, but if it’s not, I can ask them to get me the same or simmilar outfits in blue. Do you know what type of blue your dress is?” He noticed a woman with a nametag and he called her over by saying ‘Excuse me’ and waving her over. "Yes, hello. I’m the one who asked you to put aside some outfits for me? This is my date and she just informed me she’s going to wear a blue dress so I was wondeirng if you could alter the collection to fit the color … " He turned to Beck with an expression that suggests he’s awaiting for her to fill in the blank in his sentence, aka. the actual color. Especially since he hasn’t seen the dress and could only guess which shade of color it is. When she filled him in he turned back to the store employee and said “Yeah … that color. If you already have one or more outfits that could work with a dress that color, you could show it to us while arranging the other suits.”
As the woman directed them to one of the stalls where all the suits were, he thanked her and saw the outfits avaliable. As they gazed over the current choices they overheard the woman tell her work friends. “We need more blue suits for the big guy who called.”

Currently avaliable suits
