“I’ll admit that I didn’t give Artemis a choice. She can decide to drop me when she can drink legally but until then, I want to be able to keep her safe.” Her honesty struck a chord with him. He could see how her dual role had shaped their relationship, and it made him consider how his own parents were operating in a similar vein, albeit with their careers in the spotlight. Before Danny was born they had already been managing big names that have passed their time in glory. “Yeah, I get that. I think my parents want to protect me, too. But it’s like they’ve got this idea of ‘Danny Gray’ all mapped out, and I’m just… not fitting into it…. Anymore.”
“Elliot comes to me for advice every now and again but he wanted to represent himself.” Aisling continued, her tone reflective. “He knows that I’ll go to war for him if he needs it, though.”
Danny felt a stirring of inspiration. “So, it’s possible to take control of your own career while still having the support of your parents? That might work…” His thoughts raced, but the reality soon sunk in, and his shoulders slumped slightly. “But how? I’m locked in this contract. I can’t just walk away. Wouldn’t that start a massive fight at home? I’d hate to cause a rift between us.” Danny looked out the window, realizing he was just talking through his feelings instead of asking for legal advice.
“I guess… do you think at this point it’s dumb of me to break management?” He turned to watch her expression, even as she drove. “I’m sure you heard about my upcoming tour. That—that was a tipping point. I didn’t know about it until I got a instagram notification on my phone before leaving the house this morning. I’m realizing just how much control I have over this Danny Gray persona—and realizing how little it is.”
