I’m not American but this is a huge step for all the mass school shootings and other events that take place due to gun violence. That’s a good step, I’m glad he said to call a ban for it. America get to work! More stuff need to be done.

That’s their business, I guess they want to see more violence and others suffer. People are something else these days. :woman_facepalming:t5: :woman_facepalming:t5: :woman_facepalming:t5:

on the last assault weapons ban:

“Studies have shown the ban has had little effect in overall criminal activity, firearm homicides and the lethality of gun crimes, though there is tentative evidence that it decreases the frequency of mass shootings.”

i’m so exited

just to be clear, i do support some gun laws, i don’t like the nra, and the common person probably shouldn’t have assault weapons just for self-defense. but anyone that thinks gun laws decrease crmie rates as a whole significantly are just stupid. they’re called criminals for a reason

"Results indicate that gun control laws generally show no evidence of effects on crime rates, possibly because gun levels do not have a net positive effect on violence rates. Although a minority of laws seem to show effects, they are as likely to imply violence-increasing effects as violence-decreasing effects. "

“…who has access to guns has much more impact on reducing gun-related homicides than controlling what guns people have.” & " In contrast, Siegel found that laws regulating the type of firearms people have access to—such as assault weapon bans and large capacity ammunition magazine bans—and “stand your ground” laws have no effect on the rate of firearm-related homicide."

“A major question is whether or not gun‐control laws reduce crime. Thus far, handgun bans have failed to have any significant impact on murder rates because of the large number of handguns in circulation prior to the bans. Attempts to outlaw the manufacture and importation of handguns have failed because they stimulate the genesis of a black market for guns similar to the black market for drugs.”

just some food for thought

and this isn’t me cherrypicking, it’s literally the first few articles that pop up when you google ‘do gun laws decrease crime rates’. to quote most of y’all, ‘educated yourselves’.

And it’s the same thing for drugs and alcohol.

Good for you guys~

Trust me, in my country. I wish they ban firearms as well. Too much damn crime happening over here…I’m not sure if they did or didn’t…now we don’t own gun which is a good damn thing, but the problem is, idk where these people in my country are even getting guns from, unless their smuggling it here, or something. Sigh…

so - we have gun laws here, you’re not allowed a gun without a liscense which is expensive and difficult to get
we have virtually no gun - related crime

So, yea there u go.
Ngl there’s a lot of knife crime, but gun crime is rare here

mhm, that’s what i’m saying.

banning people from getting weapons instead of certain types of weapons is so much more effective and doesn’t hurt people who actually wanna use weapons for self-defense or recreational purposes.

I do think it going in the right way. Two mass shooting in America. I do think America need to ban all guns. Even though I heard gunfire in the evening when mens shoot until 10pm Or longer in my neighborhood.

uh
I mean people will sharpen sh!t or take their cooking knives and shiv ppl

It’s a common thing and I’ve seen cases where it’s almost happened, and there’s no way to ban that kind of thing - however with guns they are a lot more… efficient? And dangerous. You can’t ban people from knives. We already have laws against carrying knives over three inches or something. You can however ban assault weapons like guns, it’ll take a while for trade to fizzle out, and you’d need to have people searching houses to get rid of them, which is why it’ll be difficult in america. Our gun ban came pretty early on, so people weren’t as “oh I need them to be safe” about them
