Black Lives Matter!

This is the truth on so many levels. People shouldn’t be sacred to leave their own homes because of the fear of being shot down, why? Because some person with skin tone lighter than yours hates you.

@anon78671027 where you at?

Damn right. I cannot fathom what goes through these people’s heads when they decide to kill a black person. It’s always, “my life was in danger”. No. Their life was in danger because you endangered it.

There’s definitely more we could be doing! It’s just… there’s so much to do for the Forums to keep up the activity that I don’t have time to do the other things I care about

Exactly. How can a person who is minding their own damn business be a danger to the public and society? No boo you’re danger to yourself and several other people.

I just want the justice system to be cleared out and too reinforce the rules they set.

Don’t beat yourself up. You’re doing your best and that’s all that matters.

They’re perceived as a threat because of racism and no one wants to acknowledge it.

Exactly why I’m getting my law/political science degree.

Shannii, having a safe place to vent is all that matters. You’re doing amazing.

It's long

I have talked about this a lot of times and I won’t stop until there is change. George Floyd was campaigning for peace in his community. I think it’s incredibly relevant to what happened to him that he was a peaceful man. We should remember how loving he was and dignify his memory. And we must fight for his justice and for cases like this. I have been trying to take this week to figure out how all of this happened. When I watch those videos and read every caption and people’s opinions, it sucks that racism is real. I’m sorry but those white people saying ‘‘all lives matter’’ don’t just get the point. Just shut the hell up and fight for what is right! No one is saying your life doesn’t matter. No one is saying your life is not hard. No one is even saying anything bad about you, You can’t just start making it about yourself. People think all lives matter, yes but in this situation right now, black lives matter the most and how they suffer every day and not even feeling comfortable doing anything. Black people can’t go anywhere and they will feel safe where they are at. Stop saying white lives matter because you are not in danger or in need, so stop making everything about yourself. Black people are in danger right now in America, they literally don’t even feel safe walking down the streets without some stupid policeman coming to point a gun at their heads for doing nothing. Society gives the white people privilege because of all these things happening. Do you see any white person getting tortured? No! Do you see any policeman shooting white people? No! I don’t even understand because we were made the way we were made. We didn’t have a choice to choose a color we wanted. White people’s skin is giving them the privilege to live because black people can’t do anything without getting scared that someone might find them. It doesn’t make white people better than anyone. It just lets you live your life without having to worry about surviving simply because of your skin color!! You are privileged!!! If all lives matter, why are black people killed for just being black? Why are immigrants persecuted? Why are white people given opportunities that people of other races aren’t? Why is it okay for white people to protest literally being asked to stay at home while carrying semi-automatic weapons?

Whit people must work on their internalized racism. This murder was a direct result of centuries of reinforcement of stereotypes perpetuated by white people, presumptions made by white people, fear-mongering by white-owned media, and horrendous streak in white people to play the victim while actually being the perpetrator. That conditioning lives to some degree in ALL white people and we need to look at it.

Why do we have to say it a thousand times before the government makes a change? White people are not ever victims of racism. Not if people call them ‘Karen’, not if they are called ‘racist’; not if somebody points out their privilege. ‘Racism’ is inextricably linked with systematic, oppressive power, and it is allowed a day off if it wants one. Black people do not have the system of law and order or the state or corporations on their side, are actively oppressed, and are not given a day off from it. Find your empathy before you get ‘offended’ by being called racist.

There is hope that white people can undo their conditioning, identify their racist thoughts, assumptions, and actions, and eliminate them in favor of empathy, education in the history of oppression, and action to dismantle the system that they benefit from every single day. the first step is understanding that none of them are immune to the conditioning they received.

White people are currently benefitting from the system that just failed George Floyd, and if you are a white person, you need to engage in this conversation. You need to do the work before black people ask you to. And black people don’t need ‘calming white people down’ added to their list of problems.

Why is it okay for black people to be called thugs for protesting against the murder of innocent people? Do you know why??? WHITE. PRIVILEGE. Does white [privilege affect Hispanic people? Native Americans? Asian People? YES FOR SURE IT DOES. 100%.

But right now, at this moment, we have to address hundreds of years of oppression of black people. The slogan #blacklivesmatter does not mean other lives don’t. It is calling attention to the fact that society clearly thinks black lives don’t matter!!!
Meanwhile, they do!! It means BLACK. LIVES. MATTER.

Yes I never knew things would go this far in America. I’m really scared of what America is capable of now

America has had a very sinister history, especially with black people.

So, I’m a white dude (not an American white dude, granted) and I really didn’t take any offense to anything you said. I know what you mean, and a lot of it is true. There’s literally only one thing, that while true, can be phrased better. And that’s the term “white privilege”. It doesn’t portray the idea it describes that well in my own opinion. Shannii’s too!

Like I said, I do agree with the sentiment and the idea, just not with the term. It implies white people have something that should be taken away, not that everyone else should be given the rights and treatment they’ve been denied. But that’s semantics, the idea portrayed stands. That ingrained and subcionscious biases can be overcome.

Fairly recent history too. America is very new, guys.

Very true… Rodney King, anyone? Ferguson “riots”? The 1960s despite all of the “new discoveries”?

Yes that’s very true. But I meant privileged with the society. Society gives you privilege just for being white. You can be poor, you can be struggling…and still your skin color is giving you more privilege than you even realize.

And I’m just gonna point this out before someone else des in a more mean way than I would. Technically this isn’t true. You can be racist towards white people. What you’re talking about is systematic racism, the real big problem we should be dealing with. Singular acts of racism are bad, too, yes, but systematic racism can’t have white people as the victims in places like America. That’s the thing we need to deal with, and it has its name so we should use it!
