The “Something Old” - 2031 - PART 1
“Mum I’m here,” Jess yelled through the chateau as her butler grabbed the suitcase she had brought. Jessica Pierce was tightly holding onto her little one-year-old in her arms who had fallen asleep on the car ride over. Shay’s father was busy dealing with something for the Olympics, though that gave Jess enough time to go to London and get her something old, new, borrowed, and blue from her mother who was surprisingly excited for the big day coming up. While her mother hadn’t always been a prevalent part of her life - always being busy with her job - she had recently wanted to be a bigger part of her and her daughter’s life… which was surprising but… a good surprise.
“Hello darling, how’s my little granddaughter doing?” There was a smile on her mother’s lips as she walked towards the two, giving Jess a hug and Shay a kiss on her forehead. “Bloody exhausted, just like your daughter. But I think we’ll both survive,” There was always a regal look about her mother, the woman’s blonde hair cascading down her shoulders, as her tired blue eyes indicated years of… well… hard work. “Well, I’m glad you’ll survive because we have to go shopping for your wedding dress in a few hours. Anna called to say she’ll be landing in a few hours with Celine, until then you can go eat. Gerard can whip something up for you and later we…,” It looked as if her mom was going to continue, however, before she could - her work phone begun ringing and she sighed before, telling her daughter she’ll be back and answering the call.
It was something Jess was used to, her mother always being busy with one thing or another. So as the woman walked away, Jess walked towards the familiar kitchen to give her favorite old cook a smile… and beg to make her a grilled cheese. There was a small argument - Gerard wanting to make her something fancy, and Jess arguing she’d rather have Oreos and milk but after a bit, the man yielded with a sentiment of “I hope that little girl appreciates my culinary arts when she’s older” to which Jess simply laughed before walking towards her mother’s bedroom. After all, she still needed to find her something old, new, borrowed, and blue, and her mother had called to say she had some J\jewlrey of her great grandmothers in her closet.
Laying her daughter on the bed and tucking her in, Jess walked inside her mother’s closet - a two-story affair in itself. All around here there were high-end dresses, suits, shoes, bags - really anything one would expect from someone of her mother’s status. Though ignoring all of that, Jess walked upstairs to where a few other items- and specifically, a door that led to a few of her mother’s more cherished items. Her mother’s wedding dress was located in the front, along with family jewelry and heirlooms. However, Jess was looking for her grandmother’s necklace specifically, so ignoring all else, she ruffled through the drawers. In this endeavor, Jess found that the bottom drawers were stuck. It took a little bit of a struggle… okay a lot of a struggle because, unlike her finance, Jess didn’t work out every damn day… or like, ever so… it took a bit of time to pry it open.
But after a few minutes, it finally opened up… or rather… all the contents went flying everywhere which was truly the story of Jess’ life. After a long groan, Jess begin picking up the items - old photos and trinkets that were located in a box inside the drawer - which is what the drawer got stuck on originally. Picking a few of the items, Jess’ eyes were caught on some of the photos.
The first one that caught her eye was one in black and white. The blonde in the photo looked young… and honestly really happy as she kissed an unfamiliar man on a beach. Turning the photo over, Jess found her mother’s writing with the words:
𝒜𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇𝓈𝑜𝓃 𝐵𝑒𝒶𝒸𝒽 -𝟣𝟫𝟫𝟪
𝒜 + 𝐿
Woah… mom’s old… boyfriend? Although Jess and her mother had grown closer, this was something the woman had never talked about… and seeing as it was hidden in the bottom drawer in a room no one often went into, it seemed as if it wasn’t something the woman likely wanted to talk about. The next photo was in color, her mother sitting on a man’s lap kissing him once again. The writing on the back had a similar description. Perhaps it was the journalist in Jess, but the girl couldn’t help it. Grabbing the rest of the items, Jess walked back downstairs with the box in hand - looking at the other photos. In a few, the boy’s face was clearer, and others showed her young mother in all her glory - no older than 17.
Reaching the bedroom, Jess smiled seeing her daughter was still asleep before sitting at the foot of the bed, picking up an old diary that was located inside; and then, she just started reading - starting with:
𝑀𝒶𝓎 𝟣𝟧𝓉𝒽, 𝟣𝟫𝟫𝟪
𝐵𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓁 𝒜𝓇𝓉 𝒢𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑒𝓇𝓎𝒟𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝒟𝒾𝒶𝓇𝓎,
𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓌𝑜𝓃’𝓉 𝒷𝑒𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓋𝑒 𝓌𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝒽𝒶𝓅𝓅𝑒𝓃𝑒𝒹 𝓉𝑜 𝓂𝑒 𝓉𝑜𝒹𝒶𝓎…
