Blue Royalty: New Blood

Riker knew the moment he told her about Amie, there was a change in the way she stood. Over the years, Riker had learned how to know exactly what she was thinking without her even saying it. He knew when she was having a bad day at work, he knew when her period started and when to go get her all of her favorite snacks, he knew when something was wrong. Riker knew when Lexie was born, something was wrong. Maybe… maybe he just didn’t want to face the fact that maybe the problem was him - but the way she was snapping at everyone… the way she didn’t want to cuddle at night… he knew it was him. Everything in those few months had to lead up to the moment where she broke his heart, but it would be a lie if Riker said he had no idea it was coming. He knew. At this moment, he knew telling her about Amie hurt her. There was the slightest of frowns that met her lips before disappearing and it hurt him to hurt her.

Maybe it was time to talk. Maybe it was time to figure everything out so it wouldn’t hurt their kids anymore… even if that meant they were separating. Amie was caught in the middle right now, and he didn’t want her to be. However, with her Not now… his heart fell again. He knew they were at a wedding and that she was right, but it was a conversation they needed. Though… if it waited 6 months, it should be able to wait a few hours. “Right…” he mumbled, not knowing what to say besides those words. Though, when she asked about their daughter, there was no hesitation in Riker as he kissed his daughter one last time and handed her over to Elodie, where the girl started slightly crying. It was clear her bond with Riker was still stronger than her bond with Elo. “I’ll be back sweetheart, don’t worry okay?” Riker grinned, tickling her slightly so she’d stop crying and smile. “You can… go outside with Lexie. I’ll be there soon, I just need to see if I can… catch Jordan first. Don’t worry about saving me a seat,” he added, waving bye to his little girl again before walking away towards another familiar figure.

“Mrs. Bestwoman… any chance you know where I can find Jordan?” Riker asked, approaching Yara from the back and smiling when she turned around. The two had been friends for years and it was likely something that would never change. Once upon a time he loved the girl standing in front of him, and now they were close friends. That’s just how things worked sometimes.
