If it wasn’t clear already, Diego was still utterly confused about what to do and say. He was embarrassed by every way he knew he was messing up and likely making a fool of himself with Phoebe. He wanted to be able to say something charming, something at least half decent, anything that actually could make him seem remotely like someone she could be interested in. He just wasn’t like his brothers. His nerves always got the best of him in situations like this, and no matter how interested in her he was, he couldn’t express it to her with confidence. The best he felt that he could really do was just stand there trying not to make a complete fool of himself. He watched her lips curve into a smile, and first say he was being too sweet then comment on them getting to have more classes together. “Yeah, it’s better with you here. And we’ll get to see each other in class more, and… and sit together.” Diego responded with, but then something, or someone, else caught her attention and she quickly walked off. He was just left alone, mind racing with the thoughts of the way she had stood so close to him with her hand on his chest, thinking about all the things she said and what he could have done differently.
That interaction wasn’t the last of Phoebe that Diego saw that night however, as just a short while later he saw the girl again. Even as they had talked, it was clear that she had probably had more to drink than she should have, but when he saw her again it was clear that she really didn’t need to be at the party any longer. She needed to be home, so first he went to Raphael. Diego rode to the party with him, so he really didn’t have any choice other than to borrow his car “Hey, can I borrow the car, please? I’m driving Phoebe home.”
Luckily Diego did manage to convince Raph to give up the keys, and went right to where Phoebe was leaning against the wall. “Hey, I’m driving you home.” Talking to Phoebe wasn’t easy for Diego, but this was one thing he did know for sure. Phoebe was drunk and shouldn’t stay at the party any longer. He wasn’t going to let her stay there. Her ending up in worse shape, certainly in a position where not everyone would be like him wanting to genuinely look out for her.
He got Phoebe into the car to drive her home, but here’s the thing. Phoebe was drunk, but Diego wasn’t necessarily clear to drive her. He did have a couple drinks himself. Was he drunk, not necessarily, but buzzed driving… not a good idea. A bad idea made more clear by Diego cutting a corner a bit too tightly. It was nothing too bad and neither of them were really hurt of course, but that doesn’t change the fact that Diego did crash the car, with it kinda stuck in a ditch. Nothing that couldn’t be easily fixed of course, but they’d still have to call to get help and be picked up. Plus Diego knew he’d be in deep trouble. Though, that wasn’t the biggest concern for him at that point. He looked to Phoebe, who looked to be in one piece, which was a good sign at least. “Phoebe, are you alright? You’re not hurt, are you? I’m so, so sorry. I… I screwed up, I’m so sorry… I just… I really like you Phoebe, and I… I wanted to do something right and make sure you got home safely… but… I’m so sorry…” Diego felt extremely guilty about crashing the car while trying to make sure she got home, and guilt plus nerves equals rambling. He just wanted to at least know she was fine, even if because of this there was a chance she’d never want to talk to him again, because he couldn’t have dealt with it on his conscience if she wasn’t alright.
@astxrism - Phoebe
@CerealKiller - Raph mentioned… (sorry about the car Raph…)
