Phoebe opened her eyes to the sound of a familiar voice, a presence of someone she felt in front of her. ”What?” She quietly spoke up, a wide grin meeting her lips when she met Diego’s eyes for the second time that night. If he wasn’t there, she’d eventually go back to the bar as she promised to continue their interesting conversation. At first she didn’t really pay attention to what he was saying, she only got the “taking home” party. Wow, very brave of him. Wasn’t expecting that one anytime soon. ”You’re taking me home? Your house or…?” A playful smile remained on her lips, expecting more attempts at flirting but that was not what she got. And that was not at all what he meant.
Even in the state she was, Phoebe knew that going home was probably the best idea. And now that someone offered to take her home she couldn’t say no; this was way better than calling an Uber and being in a car with a stranger. Not that she minded, some of them were very cool dudes. But in the state she was, she appreciated this more than she would if she was completely sober. ”Seatbelts,” Phoebe whispered when he got in after helping her, letting her head fall back, closing her eyes.
Did she ever think something bad would happen? No. But to be fair she wasn’t thinking at all during that whole ride. She did not say a single word, she only kept her eyes closed which was not like her at all but she was just tired. And she just wanted to get back home so she could sleep, hopefully avoiding her parents… father. That was all until she heard a loud bang, realizing what just happened. Diego crashed the car. It was a good thing it wasn’t anything serious, they were just in a ditch but both of them were completely fine. Right? Well, Phoebe wouldn’t know because she couldn’t look to the side at Diego. She was looking in front of her, breathing heavily while tightly holding onto the seat, her nails dug deeply into it. His voice was ringing in her ears, words she did not understand, like one of those slow motion scenes in a movie. She wasn’t even acknowledging his presence.
Then tears slowly started rolling down her cheeks, her eyes glued to the same spot in front of her, nails still dug in the seat. ”I want to go home,” Phoebe managed to mumble right before completely breaking down and opening the door to get out, only to sit down on the grass, away from the car.
