Alex
Alex always knew himself to be a well loved only-child by his mother and father, even though he did have a half-sister, it always felt like he was the only child in the house. Happy and content that he was, yet there always remained an inevitable question that one day he knew he would have to ask, “What happened to my dad?”
The answer from his mother was always the same, that he wasn’t a good person and he should be glad he never had to experience that or ever see him. All of his family members, every time he asked, said about the same thing with a certain gravitas that deterred from further questioning. It was only many years later when Alex turned 14 that he started to look for his father, snooping through his mothers things when she wasn’t home in order to look for any clues. For time he found nothing, becoming discouraged with the mission to find his father, to meet him. That was until he found information online, scouring the internet with his friend Amie to look for the man. The man Alex ended up finding had to have been him, right? All of the signs were pointing towards him. A keepsake found in the basement of their house tucked away, the man looking very similar to Alex did, among other things.
But that was it - end of the story in his family. He found him. Then what? Leave to try and find him? That was exactly what Alex did. Searching the internet, he bought a plane ticket, and within a couple days he was gone. Alex had told his mother he was going on a trip with a couple of his friends, his bandmates. Not suspicious.
6 months had passed by, Alex only returning back home now. After that trip, Alex wasn’t sure what he had just found out. That man wasn’t his father, but he pretended to be. For three months, Alex had been under the impression that the man he had been spending everyday with was in fact his father. And it turned out, he wasn’t a terrible person like everyone said he was. He liked his father, wanted to invite him home, so they could spend more time together. That was until he got the DNA test. No match. The man he had started to begin to like, to love even was just faking it. Why? There was no reason that Alex could think of. Maybe he was just lonely and wanted someone to love him as a father.
You might be wondering what happened in the last three months of the trip. Well, that section included lots of drinking in bars and clubs wherever Alex could find. Drinking until he almost passed out, or until he knew he wouldn’t be able to remember the days. Hotel rooms being visited by a new girl every now and then, and well, Alex said he would text them, but he never did. For a while at the beginning, all he could think about was Amelia. To say everything was okay, that she would always be there for him even after what happened. But that wasn’t the case, she was ignoring him. Too bad, she was busy fcking JP and getting high. The “good” boy that everyone knew Alex to be was… lost. Days fell into days, and before he knew it his mom demanded he come back home. He knew he really didn’t want to, other than to see his friends. He was having fun playing music for girls, not giving a fck about anyone or anything and getting to whatever he wanted. No responsibilities, no people to let down, no… Well, literally nothing.
Before Alex had left for his trip, he had been spending a lot of time at a specific bar and outside with a specific girl. The first time they met was when Alex walked into a bar in the city, and Logan happened to be working that night. He was upset over Amelia, she was ignoring him and he was pissed that he fcked up. He wanted to get his mind off of it, sooo he went to drink. Maybe not the best way to handle your emotions, but he did it anyway, maybe that’s why he ended up the way he did on his “little” trip. Anyways. He rambled to Logan that night about everything, something he did when he was drunk and sad. That’s where the friendship started, them just talking to each other and enjoying each other’s presence. She constantly gave him advice, telling him to stop being stupid and urged him to go on the trip to get a little break. Sure why not. What better way to get away from the pain of seeing Amelia every day, and also meet his father. When that didn’t go his way and he had fallen back into drinking every night and fking random girls, he invited Logan out for a while. Hey, he had the money to spend, why not fly his favorite person out there.
During the 2 weeks she was there, they had ended up starting friends with benefits with no strings attached. At first it wasn’t Alex’s first motive, to bring her there just to have s3x with her, he just wanted to talk to her in person. To have someone to tell him that booooo that dude sucked and he needs to get over that. Yeah, until one night he kissed her and then it escalated from there. He never told her exactly what happened after his father though. All he told her was that it wasn’t what he was expecting. At no time did he mention he’s been fking girls and getting wasted for 3 months, but that was a problem for another time.
That brings us back to now, Alex had messaged Logan saying he was back in the city and wanted to meet up. They ended up deciding on a coffee shop, which by the way he knew Amelia visited frequently. Maybe it was his plan to meet her there, to make it look like they were more involved than just a no strings relationship.
”Hey,” he said as he recognized the familiar face that walked up to him while he stood in line. Logannn. He missed that face after a couple weeks. ”Sorry for the sudden text I just… I really needed to talk to you,” he looked at her hoping she knew what he meant by that. It was almost like they understood each other sometimes without having to say anything, that was the nice thing about being around her. She always knew exactly what he needed.
He pulled her over towards the side of the shop, pulling them into a booth but making her sit on the same side as he was. There was a little bit of hesitancy from Alex, and maybe this wasn’t the best place to do this. He looked at her, it was pretty obvious to anyone who knew him that he wasn’t okay. But he would pretend to be, to everyone but Logan. “I can’t. The whole trip seems pointless. He wasn’t even my fking father, can you imagine that? What dck pretends to be someone’s dad. Who fking does that?” His voice started to increase in volume, clearly becoming more upset. She always had the ability to make him feel better and that’s exactly what he was going to ask her. “I just… I need you to make me feel… better,” he asked her quietly, getting a little closer to her to tell her what he needed without really saying it.
