Could you believe the entire senior class was going on a ski trip, in France? They were actually going to France! The only way it could be better was if they were going to Paris. Sophie desperately wanted to see Paris, it was the city of love after all, how could she not want to go there? But simply being in France would have to be good enough. The problem was… her family didn’t want to let her go, especially alone. She hadn’t been out of the country before, it might not be safe, there may not be someone there to watch over her… but eventually they did reluctantly agree. It was a school sponsored trip, what reason was there to worry? There’s just as much for someone to worry about closer to home, but that doesn’t matter, Sophie was about to go to France.
Her excitement was what was keeping her going, but it could only last so long before something changed. When she realized she was going to be sitting next to Matty on the plane, her smile was clear, but that changed when she realized who was sitting on the other side of her. She was just getting settled into her seat when he showed up. To one side, she had the guy she really liked, to the other, the guy who broke her heart, Zek. It didn’t matter that they were once friends, but even after a year, being around him was a fast way to ruin her smile. She did not want to be around him at all, especially not to be sitting next to him for 11 hours. It would only make her think about the things that hurt her. “Matty…? Can you switch seats with me, please? I… I don’t want to sit in the middle…”
