Embry sat in her mother’s car, listening and playfully rolling her eyes as her mother continued her pre-flight spiel. After reassuring her mother of everything from ‘Ja, ich kann gut Französisch’ to ‘Ich habe meinen Reisepass’, she was finally allowed to leave the car and hug her mother one last time before collecting her luggage and heading into the airport. Her relationship with her parents was nowhere near where it had been before The Incident but it was slowly getting better, demonstrated by the fact that her mother dropping her off had been a choice and Embry had been the one to make the suggestion. She also knew that however tedious she found her mother’s long speech before dropping her off, it was still a sign of how much she loved her.
This newfound positive attitude didn’t last long though, as Embry saw who she would be sitting next to for the flight to France. “Bloody hell.” She muttered to herself as she read their name. She looked down the list, noticing that everyone seemed to be sitting next to the person, or people, who would guarantee the most awkward flight of their entire lives. Maybe if I just don’t make eye contact… She thought to herself as she took her seat after putting her carry-on luggage in the overhead bin. She pulled out her phone to text her parents and mindlessly scroll Instagram one last time before she had to turn her phone off for the flight. Her no-eye contact strategy didn’t work for long because Hera started to speak to her and what she had to say finally made Embry turn her head toward the person sitting next to her.
Hera was apologizing to her. Something which, honestly, she thought she would never hear. Now it was up to her to either accept the apology and work towards having a better relationship with Hera or be an a-shole and reject the apology. “I’m sorry, too. For stealing her from you at prom and just, everything really.” She apologized, hoping that this exchange of condolences could be a positive step between her and Hera. “Love really does make us do stupid things, doesn’t it?” She added with a light-hearted laugh.
