Xavier jumped as Richard dropped his book. “I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” He apologized before setting his carry-on bag at his feet. He laughed at Richard’s response to his question but something about it also clued him to exactly how well he was taking the news. “That bad, huh?” He responded with a reassuring smile, letting the other guy know that he could see right through him. “Well, I can’t exactly offer the real thing but I can take you to swear at his grave if it would make you feel better.” He made this comment without thinking twice about it. To Xavier, ‘don’t speak ill of the dead’ didn’t apply to his biological parents, something which might come as a shock to other people, especially if they’d never heard him talk about them before.
