Annie and the road had a love-hate relationship. She loved to be on it, but the road hated her to be. Driving was, in fact, one of the more common reasons for her past arrests. After losing Angela, her beloved green bronco, in the forest fire, Annie had spent the last three months talking her way into getting rides from other people; or even borrowing other people’s cars to drive herself from those who don’t know her well enough to be aware of her lack of driving capabilities. Which, considering the last fact, meant when asking her mother to borrow her car to drive to the Halloween party was moderately unsuccessful. “Nope, no way, no, no if you’re going to a party I’m driving you.” Sadie easily responded.
After a while of attempted negotiation from Annie wanting to drive herself, she finally got in the passenger seat of her mother’s car. “So, your dad will pick you up in the morni-”
“Speaking of dad…” Annie interrupted her mother at the slight mention of him, jumping on the opportunity to confront the past few weeks of uncertainty.
Annie had spent almost a decade watching, and vicariously living on, Sadie and Jordan’s emotional roller-coaster post-divorce. And after everything, her happiness was heavily based on their happiness. Selfishly, Annie wanted them to come back together as it would tell her that maybe it wasn’t her fault they divorced in the first place. At the time of it happening, the millions of fans viewing from the outside, and even- slightly more subtly- her siblings, were quick to see (and very much point out) the suspiciously short time between Annie’s adoption and Sadie and Jordan’s divorce. There were no such thing as coincidences for those seeing it. So if Sadie and Jordan were to come back together even though she was still there… maybe it wasn’t her fault in the first place. That, plus the painfully obvious love that any fool could see was still between them, had caused her to become substantially invested in their everchanging relationship.
“Oh my God, I haven’t even said anything and you’re already smiling, I think that answers enough,” Annie rolled her eyes, though a smile formed on her face too at the seemingly positive developments in her parent’s relationship. “So… is there-?” She very vaguely asked the question, knowing that it would be enough for Sadie to know. “No… yes- yeah, I mean I don’t know, but maybe kind of yes, I’m not completely sure right now, but- yeah,” Her mother’s response was, not giving Annie too much to work with. “Cool. Good to know,” Annie responded as the car pulled into the nearby road of the venue. Jumping out of the car, Annie displayed an air of nonchalance to appear less invested in the relationship than she actually was. “Well I’ll be repeating that question upon pick-up. So expect a report back to you, you’re welcome,” She concluded, waiting for Sadie to drive out of sight before allowing her excitement to creep through for a moment.
Arriving in the manor, which… did have a name that Annie had known at some point, she assessed the venue. Being a fan of horror movies, Annie had high standards for what is classed as haunted and scary. Walking inside, she officially classed the scare-factor as… pretty average. What she could see was a room full of gimmicks, definitely fake blood on the walls, and floors that just needed… whatever is used to fix creaky floors. So, it was needless to say, being scared wasn’t going to be the problem of the night for Annie. The group she had to be with for the duration… that easily achieved biggest problem award for the night.
Walking over to the general area that her group were floating around, Annie was faced with Paige Pierce, someone she had frequently clashed with - and was bound to do so if she had to spend the entire night with. So, Annie would save them the trouble. “Don’t worry, Paige, I’m not in this whole Blue Royalty thing, so no obligations for me to ‘stay in the assigned group’, thank God,” She told her, heavy emphasis on the final words to establish the mutual feeling with Paige’s disliking towards her.
