Blue Royalty: New Blood

”Oh, I wasn’t actually-” she mumbled as she was caught by surprise with callum in front of her, not to mention it has been a really long time since she was last called olive, it brought some sense of nostalgia, but also some unpleasant thoughts in between. ”god knows what they put in that” she said, and grabbed another piece of brownie instead. Let’s just say getting wasted drunk wasn’t exactly on her agenda for the evening.

She smiled lightly as looking at the boy in front of her ”you look good” she said ”the suit really suits you” she said making a little (absolutely) terrible joke as she took a little bite.

He asked what she was up to and she honestly didn’t really know what to answer, obviously she was up to things but it wasn’t exactly suitable conversation for a supposedly fun party. His question, as simple as it was, did trigger her a bit coming from him, it took her back to things that had happened before that he never knew about, things that are happening all over again and she was still clueless about how to go on with her life and current situation. But as I said, not party talk.

”not much I guess, my prom date already ditched me but it’s fine ” she shrugged ”did you bring a date?” she asked curiously

She looked at all the people here. Each of them had firmly settled into their little groups, leaving her alone. Amber did not truly know much about this game other than it contained astronomical stakes. Life and death, it sounded like. You can’t get the fruit if you don’t go out on a limb, and no doubt this would be a fruit worth it.

The best strategy would be to simply wait and observe. Be polite, but not overly friendly. Try and act as much like a normal Southern girl as much as you can so everyone overlooks you. Listen and learn.

The people here came from all over, it looked like. As did the drinks.

There was one boy she saw, standing all alone in some dark corner. Curious, she approached him. @Ouijaloveletters

Yet again, Benjamin Mason was as high as a kite. Why did he always get high at parties instead of at home? He had no clue. He was leaning against a wall, eating a couple of those brownies. Yeah, he knew there was weed in them. It was really easy to figure it out. He had his eyes closed, but opened them when someone approached. Don’t ask how he knew she was there. The music was too loud to hear anything, let alone quiet footsteps. He raised his hand in greeting, pushing himself off the wall. “Yeah? What’s up?”

Amber nearly yelled over the music. “Nothing really, seems as if I’m the only person here who doesn’t know anyone!” She looked around to see if they were alone. “Why are you alone? It’s a school dance. I’m sure you have more friends than I do.”
Her dress wasn’t even just for prom, she wore it at least two months before at the latest pageant her mom forced her to compete in. It was blue and sparkling, but far from the flashiest or most expensive dress around. It was enough to make a girl like her jealous!

“Are you new here?!” Ben yelled, stepping closer to hear her better. “Honestly, I’m not a fan of parties! My parents just suggested I come, so here I am! What about you?!” He yelled over the music, finishing the brownie in his hand, dusting off his hands. “I’m Ben!” He yelled again.

“Reuben?” Luna asked confused. She had heard that name before, it seemed familiar to her but she couldn’t pin point where she heard it from. Was Reuben a new kid or someone that was in this school for years but like her was ‘unknown’? “Who?” She asked them as she tried to remember this Reuben person- her brain hurt trying to remember them, she can’t so she stopped and simply looked at Athena’s eyes, shy she looked down on her lap and played with her fingers. She thought of Elijah and how embarrassing that situation was, how she had acted on impulse and not really done what she normally would do- take a second and think about how stupid all this is. She had done it again with Athena, acting on impulse, what was going on with 18 year old her nowadays? “Don’t beat yourself up over this too much. I know that it might seem like the end of the world right now, but trust me. In a few months, you’ll forget all about it and it’ll be like it never happened.” Athena’s words drew Luna away from her thoughts and she couldn’t help but snort at the, you’ll forget all about it and it’ll be like it never happened part. Luna knew that she definitely would not. She would be 87 living with 50 cats, 50 dogs and one pet hamster and remember the Elijah situation. Crying in her old wrinkled body and wishing she could travel to the past and stop all that from happening. Was Luna overreacting? 100% did she know she was overreacting? 99% yes but that’s not the matter right now. Athena said they should focus on having fun and Luna smiled, “Yeah… maybe we should play a game”

Eric softly put down Destiny’s arms which were still aggressively grabbing his face. He did this with a polite smile, while Destiny was constantly calling him “cute.” Every few seconds. She didn’t realize it was annoying him while they continued to dance to the next few songs that played. During this time, she was trying to act as normal as she could so her state wouldn’t be noticeable, but it was getting more and more complicated each minute.

1 hour and 30 minutes later

With her shoulders slumped and looking around the room, Destiny sat in front of a table in a random chair, while Eric was busy talking to a random guy. She thought Eric would kiss her by now and she was insulted. It was clear that he didn’t like her in that way and it was hurtful to say the least. Hurtful to her ego. Yeah, she didn’t like him like that but why didn’t he like he…nevermind there were probably lots of reasons why that were presented tonight. Another song came on the speakers which made Destiny want to dance again. She was drousy and dizzy but for some reason still seemed to have her regular energy. It was…strange. Eric reluctantly got up. She was fun to be around but dancing with her was like babysitting a toddler which was irritating to say the least. Still, he didn’t want to disappoint her and ruin her night, so he took her hands in his and moved to the music.

“Yeah…it’s…a lot.” Eric said with a laugh to a guy he somewhat became acquaintances with tonight. He was talking about this date with Destiny and she pushed his arm with a giggle. “Hey, Don’t talk to him about this or it might get back to my parents.”

“If you didn’t want your parents to know, then you shouldn’t risk it by drinking.” Eric stated, somewhat sympathetically. Destiny nodded.“I know, I know.” They continued dancing and she gradually became more hyper again to Eric’s dismay.

     A few minutes later

The floor was shaking. Destiny didn’t know if she was imagining it or what but it was shaking. Now everything was shaking. A small scream left her mouth. Eric looked around the room confused. Yep it was a frickin earthquake. One of the first thoughts that came into Destiny’s head was whether Adonis was okay. She was so rude to him earlier and what if he died before she could say sorry? Looking back at Eric again, she went to go find Adonis and spotted him near a table. “Adoonis, are you okay!” She absentmindedly grabbed his head while she caught herself from slurring much further, something she was accustomed to. “What are you doing! Hide under the table!”

She was happy to make a new friend.“I’m Amber, hello Ben!” Idly, she twirled her skirt in time with the music. “Where did you get that brownie? I didn’t see you selling them in the front?” Amber was more of a cookie person rather than a brownie person, but she was in the mood for some snacks.

Here is the thing… Saying “unless you want to”, suggesting something, with a smile like that to girls like Katherine is not smart. And why is that? Because some girls like that, some girls would get their hopes up when you’re probably just playing with them, they would start imagining all the ways that could end, everything that could happen and let Katie tell you… It’s not that fun most of the time. That will be the only thing on her mind for the next couple of days… If this night is something she would remember clearly, and I can’t guarantee she would.

In any other situation, especially in the state she was currently in, she would consider their conversation going in the right direction and she wouldn’t hesitate to answer in the same playful way but for some reason she was left speechless. Or just… Flattered he even suggested something like that. He… Was that a joke? Wait… it must’ve been just a joke, why would… No, it was not. She looked reaaaaalllly good tonight, come on, he’d be lucky if she said yes aaaaaand… That’s why she won’t do it. That’s why she’ll only shrug her shoulders with an innocent smile and see what happens next.

What happened next is that she said yes to… What? She didn’t know, she didn’t care, she was having fun and that is all that matters unless… This was the night he actually ends up kidnaping her but that was the last thing on her mind right now. ”Oh wow,” Katie whispered to herself the moment Kaspian led her to a car she’ll pretend she knows all about, giggling as he opened the door for her and helped her with a belt, not that she needed help… Okay… maybe she did. ”This is nice,” was the first thing she said, whispered again, when he joined her, her hand sliding over the leather seat but her attention quickly shifted to the boy when he asked her about… Food? Really? Out of eeeverything they could do that is his first option? Where is the fun in that?

”Sooo…” She started with a playful smile, leaning back in the seat as she looked back to the front of the car. ”You have to do something… I thought it would be something more exciting like… Like breaking into someone’s house again, that was fuuuun… Even if you said that’s not what we’re doing I was really hoping we would. I wasn’t expecting you to go somewhere to eat. You know… there was food in there, really fancy by the way.” Now laughing lightly for a second she allowed herself to look at Kaspian again, her gaze traveling to his hands on the steering wheel before unbuckling her seat belt and rolling down the window. ”I can’t eat that now, this is a tight dress,” quickly adding as a real answer to his question, Katherine struggled to lean out of the car window but the smile on her face did not falter for a second. ”You like burgers and tac- OH MILKSHAKES! We can do that later,” glancing back at him yet another giggle left her lips.

Do you know what today was supposed to be? A day when Finley didn’t have to deal with idiots and just enjoy his night with his lovely prom date… And whoever else he finds… Maybe just them but look where we are now. Not the night he was hoping for but should he be surprised? Should he be surprised someone wanted his attention so much they ended up not only punching him but pushing him towards the table of drinks making him spill everything so now all these lovely people at prom have nothing to drink? It sure was a tragedy but let’s backtrack a little.

”I’m flattered you wanted to be the first one to do it then, it must feel really nice knowing you’re doing something apparently everyone here wants to,” there was subtle smirk on Fin’s face as he stared at the man in front of him, one you don’t see that often, only in these kind of situations. Did he believe Mason’s words? No, no he did not. Why would they all want something so bad to happen to him? What has he ever done to them all? What has he ever done to Mas- okay maybe the two of them weren’t that friendl- No, fine, Mason was on top of Fin’s can’t stand list and it was obvious he felt the same way about Fin but this was not necessary. Not here, not now… Even if this was something that brought joy to him. Oh how he wished he would, as he normally would, return the punch but watching his friend confused because nothing was happening… There was just something special about that.

For the first time talking about his father about a thing no one should really know about was more fun than fighting. It was a thing Finley thought would never happen and no, he was not surprised that his words caused Mason to make another move. If you want him to be honest he was expecting something more… Not a push. ”Careful,” for the second time that night Fin did something that doesn’t normally happen, he laughed lightly looking at the mess Mason made. ”You are ruining the night for all of us-” It’s a shame that didn’t last long because as soon as Mason got close to him again Fin couldn’t keep up with that fake act. ”And you will make sure that happens?” Keeping his voice down, Fin shoved him in an attempt to walk away from him, from this situation. Look, he didn’t need his father for anything, he really didn’t care what happens… Not as much as he think he doesn’t, but there some things he would and wouldn’t like to happen and when it comes to his dad… That’s complicated. ”Thank you for looking out for me,” was Fin’s last- no. ”Now what am I supposed to drink?” That was his last comment as he walked away from that mess.

”You look… Wow,” Phoebe repeated Diego’s words, moving just a little closer to the guy, a look of entertainment in her eyes. Is it wrong to say this was something she was expecting? Something she knew would happen? It always goes like this after all so it didn’t come as a surprise that she only got three words out of him… Three, okay, that might’ve been a surprise. ”That’s a new one, I’ll take it.” Usually it’s something slightly different and less but… That shouldn’t be important now. And she shouldn’t be doing this.

This being playing with the guy and enjoying watching him struggle to interact with her. That’s what she’s doing almost every day and it’s not that she’s getting tired of it, no, she’ll never get tired of that it’s just that… There should be times when she lets herself enjoy things for other reasons. Having someone like you so much that it makes them so awkward around you shouldn’t be scary. You shouldn’t be making it harder for them just because you think it’s fun and subconsciously think that would only cause them to give up because… You’re not worth all that effort. And no, Phoebe didn’t think she wasn’t worth the effort, she thinks anyone could be more than happy with her because she would make sure of that but she just… Didn’t want that. There were some things she would never be able to give to that person so what was the point?

Maybe just tonight she could play nicer. Maybe just tonight she could actually enjoy what was happening with someone who clearly cared. So letting her expression change completely, letting a sweet smile form on her lips, Phoebe moved back creating some distance. ”Thank you,” she quietly said, looking away from him for a second before meeting his gaze again. ”I wanted to say you look wow too,” adding, a sweet smile she had on her lips remained. See? She could be nice. ”And I’m sorry about my family, they are kind of… How do I say it without offending them?” A laugh leaving her lips, she turned her whole body toward him this time in a not so seductive, am I making you nervous way, just… friendlier. ”Don’t tell them I even tried to- It’s just Amie is- It’s not important, we’re… It’s prom, who would’ve thought I’d be here,” another chuckle, another innocent statemen… Well… ”I’ll make it fun, I promise.”

As they listened to her giving them options for ways they could try her cooking, they got a different idea and couldn’t resist the temptation to see how she would respond to it. “Orrr,” They started, leaning closer to her with a smile. “I could find us somewhere romantic to eat together and we could have a picnic. I could even bring drinks.” They suggested, hoping that she would accept their offer. They were really enjoying spending time with her and honestly, it made them wish that the night didn’t have to end. They laughed at the way she described her lack of dancing ability. “I’m sure you’ll do just fine.” They reassured her. “Trust me.” Once they were on the dance floor, the feeling of this being the perfect night returned and they smiled as she put her arms on their shoulder. As they danced, they looked into her eyes, noticing how her makeup enhanced their beauty and they knew that this girl had some hold on them that no one else had before.

“I like the idea of a picnic. Just let me know when you want to do it. I assume you want to keep the location secret? I’d like to be surprised.” Hyun-Ae smiled when Niko said she’d be fine. “You’ll just have to see for yourself. Brace yourself.” On the dance floor now, Hyun-Ae inhaled, following Niko’s footsteps. Well, she hadn’t stepped on their foot yet…or tripped. She considered this a success. She stepped slightly closer to Niko, smiling slightly. “This is fun.” She whispered.

History had never been Laurel’s favorite subject. In fact, she tried to avoid getting caught up by it. Yet, there was still something about the man that Laurel kept going back to. Perhaps to an extent, she was toying with him, teasing just enough to keep a hold on him. Or perhaps, she wanted the connection despite how much she told herself she didn’t.

Laurel looked over her shoulder to the man zipping up her dress. Did he not get the hint? Fine, fine. Zipping it the rest of the way up is fine. She wasn’t going to spell it out for him. Could’ve had a little pre-prom fun, but it seems that fun would have to wait for later. Oh well, perhaps it could be a little game. Keep up flirting and teasing and see how long it takes for him to become desperate for more. Make prom a little more interesting before there would hopefully be an after party more her speed.

“Gotta make an appearance sometime. Then we can really get the night started.” Turning back to face him, he smiled, telling her that she looked beautiful. Laurel gave a smirk before biting her lip just slightly and looking him up and down once more. “And you look… damn hot. Like always.”

Neither of them had known ahead of time that the punch was spiked. There was no way to know. “It’s fine.” she said as he apologized, offering to take the drink. She just wasn’t going to drink the punch. It was no big deal and he had done nothing wrong. Him being understanding about it was actually far from doing the wrong thing. She gave a sweet smile, assuring that everything between them was still fine. She nodded as he said chocolate is a good substitute. “Definitely. It’s a really good substitute.” With the drinks left on the table, and brownies being eaten, Mateo asked Sophie if she wanted to dance. At the sound of his question, her smile grew. “Of course Matty, I’d love to.”

Why did it always have to be this way? Why did every time he was around Phoebe his brain have to practically short circuit. He couldn’t think straight around her. Confident, outgoing, beautiful, an amazing surfer, and so much more. Phoebe always impressed him, and it didn’t make sense why she would even go as far as to give him the time of day. People had said he could be just as charming as his brothers, but never when he wanted to be. When it came to his crush, Diego didn’t know how to function, and Phoebe was certainly the biggest crush he’d ever had. He was always so nervous when it came to being around her. If he knew how to actually say it, if he knew the words to actually describe how gorgeous she was, he would tell her, but he was always at a loss for words. Her having moved closer to him as she repeated his words back to him certainly didn’t make him any less nervous either. That’s how it always was. He had the biggest crush on her, and she knew just how nervous she could make him with the smallest things because of that crush. Soon enough, Phoebe gave a sweet smile as she moved back somewhat. “I… thanks.” he said when she used his words of how she looked, to tell him how he looked. Certainly he didn’t look nearly as impressive as she did. “It… its fine… they’re fine. Really.” He knew they just wanted to look out for her. He knew her family, Amie especially, was just looking to protect Phoebe. He understood that, and respected it. He’d be the same way in their shoes, and even with Phoebe, he wanted to protect her too. They were on their way to prom together, and even then Diego still didn’t know how he was going to make it through the night without doing something stupid and making himself look like a fool. He didn’t know how to make it through being able to talk to her for the duration of the evening. What even was he supposed to do?

Niko smiled, trying not to let their excitement show too much when Hyun-Ae agreed to their picnic idea. “If you want it to be a surprise, then I will make that happen.” They told her, really meaning what they said. Now that she had agreed to it, Niko was determined to make it something Hyun-Ae would remember. As Hyun-Ae continued to stress her lack of dance ability, Niko couldn’t help but laugh and they gave her a reassuring smile that said ‘don’t be silly’. As they danced, Niko made sure to guide their date, hoping that it might give her some sense of security or maybe help her feel more confident about dancing. Then she stepped closer to them. Close enough that they could smell her perfume, which of course, only enhanced how ethereal they thought she was. They nodded in response to her statement about it being fun. “It really is.” They agreed with her.

“I look forward to it.” Hyun-Ae said, smiling. She was really excited. Niko laughed, and Hyun-Ae rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. “I’m trying.” She laughed. They continued to dance, then the entire room shook. Hyun-Ae let out a small yelp, falling, but catching herself. Dropping to the floor, she grabbed Niko’s hand, tugging them down with her. She wasn’t sure if they could hear her over the chaos, so she pointed at a nearby table, starting to crawl towards it. Good thing she read books on natural disasters…

“He’s one of the guys on the soccer team,” They explained, giving her their largest point of reference for him although they weren’t entirely sure that Luna would have any idea who was on what team. Hell, the only reason they knew who was on the soccer team was that Xavier physically dragged them to the games. “He and I always seem to run into each other at parties.” They added with a shrug. They could tell that some of the initial awkwardness had subsided, but there was still some there and honestly, Athena wasn’t sure if it would go away any time soon. For no other reason than human interaction was not Athena’s strong suit. Luna seemed to brighten up a bit after they said that they should focus on having fun and when she suggested that they play a game, Athena nodded. “Sure. That sounds like fun.” They said, agreeing to her idea. “Did you have a specific game in mind?” They asked her, not able to think of anything themself.

“You’re doing amazing,” They told her, hoping to give her some positive reassurance. Then everything went to sh-t. Niko froze as they felt the room shake. They saw Hyun-Ae fall and internally they wanted to help her but their mind couldn’t will their body to move. That was until Hyun-Ae grabbed their hand and pulled them down to the ground, the action pulling them back to reality. They saw her point to something and their eyes followed her hand, finding the table she was pointing to. They followed her, crawling on their hands and knees. Once they were underneath the table, they broke down, hugging one arm around their body and covering their mouth with the other as they began to sob. They were scared. Not only for their safety but also for Hyun-Ae and their family’s safety. More than anything, Niko wished they could hold their daughter close to them but all they could do was hope that she and the rest of their family were okay.
