School was something that annually vanished from Annie’s mind during the summer, even more so than it did whilst she was attending it. Primarily fuelled by her lack of hope for the future, it had never been any kind of priority in her life, and she could certainly call herself a below average student. And even that was being generous. So, when September crept up once again, Annie was reminded of it’s existence: preparing to regain her straight-F student status.
“Mariana Williams,” The call that echoed through the corridor stopped her in her tracks, as she had been walking aimlessly beside the lockers. After turning to see it was Principle Klein, Annie sighed looking up to the sky. “Already?” Annie started with raised eyebrows, looking down at her non-existent watch: though knowing it was, in fact, way too early for him to be calling for her. “Surely that has to be some kind of record, in fact, I’m pretty sure I haven’t even done anything yet,” She exclaimed as his head tilted to gesture towards his office, something that had naturally become a regular occurrence during her educational career.
Annie continuously had to hold in an eyeroll as the Principle told her that, if she continued the way she had been going during the first three years, she would not graduate. Really, she should have seen that coming. But it didn’t take away the annoyance, and somewhat hidden surprise, at the claim he was making. Just as she thought it couldn’t get any worse, he decided the best solution to this could only be “–A tutor?” She massaged her closed eyelids as he went into detail about the idea of a fellow senior helping her to graduate. “That is so good to know, well, thank you so much for setting off the year so well,” Annie stated, standing up, allowing for the sarcasm to be detected by him before she left.
Her walk had become a faster, more heavy-footed one after leaving the office. P^ssed, needless to say. Walking back down the corridor, Annie headed for where she tried to remember where her locker was. On the way, her path was once again interrupted by a collision with someone she hadn’t looked to notice standing where she was headed. The sound of whatever was in their hand knocking on the floor made her realise that she had, in fact, bumped into someone. “For f^ck’s sake,” Annie said under her breath, mainly to herself. As she began to lean forward, her attempt to help the person was halted the instant she saw who it was. “Oh, it’s you,” Annie commented bitterly, her eyes rolling before meeting his for a moment but then turning to walk away from Maxon Russo.
