Akielah nodded as her cousin spoke. “Precisely. I’m 14 years old today, and I’m so much more capable than most of your class, and the idiots in my school. You would think being at the best private school in New York, they’d actually be better than the average.” Akielah sighed. “Its not like he can even have his go to comfort food, because the only pizza he eats is from her family’s restaurant. I don’t care what, but there’s gotta be something that will make him feel better, preferably by the time I get back home.” Akielah looked down at the cake in front of her, knowing she had it all over her face which only made her seem more like a kid, as Valerie pointed out how she kind of still is a kid. “Doesn’t mean I want to be treated like a baby. Soon enough, soon enough. For now I guess checking out what people use some very insecure cafe wifi for will have to suffice for birthday entertainment.”

Maddy smiled to herself when Henry mentioned the camping trip. “Seems you had fun, then. That’s good” he said as she spoke about getting to meet new people. “It’s always good to meet new people. So, what brought you to this cafe? Getting breakfast?” He asked, taking a bite of his scone and adjusting his glasses. “The coffee is tugging up my glasses.” He complained with a grin.

Marie yawned as she sat up, rubbing her eyes. She got out of bed, getting dressed and brushing her hair and teeth. She had just walked out of the bathroom when her phone vibrated. She walked over to see a text from Zion inviting her to the mall.
Sure, that sounds great. I’ll be there in twenty minutes.
Marie sent the text, grabbing her wallet, keys and putting on her shoes before heading out the door. She got in her car, driving to the mall and texting Zion once she got there.
Alright, I’m here, where are you? She texted, looking around the mall for any sign of Zion.

Ketziah Drake

The camping trip was better than Ketziah expected. The school organized activities were mostly enjoyable, and she liked getting to just spend time with her friends. She even enjoyed the game of dare or drink, but especially how it led to her following Andy into the woods. That was a decision she would never regret. What had been just a friendship and a crush, became more. Though, with telling Andy about her health, Ketziah knew there was someone else that she couldn’t wait any longer to tell. Jordan. The last time they had been together as a couple, she knew her health was getting worse. It hadn’t gotten as bad yet as it was now, but it wasn’t good and she had known it, but she kept it from him. She couldn’t hide it from him any longer. Just after arriving back home after the camping trip, she tried to make herself to go to his place to talk to him, but couldn’t bring herself to do it. She couldn’t look him in the eye and say it, knowing how much it would hurt him. She had honestly thought about asking Riker to tell Jordan for her, but in the end she decided on just sending him a message. He hadn’t even replied to her message, but when she heard someone at the door, she knew instantly that it was him. He immediately pulled her into a hug after stepping inside, and Ketziah couldn’t stop herself from breaking down in tears. Exactly what she had tried to avoid. She hadn’t cried talking to her brother about her health, she didn’t cry talking to Riker about it, or when telling Andy, but with Jordan it was a different story. It hurt to tell someone who was such a good person, something that would hurt him so much, especially when she could, and should, have told him a lot earlier. Saturday, the day the school would be hosting a lock in, by the afternoon Ketziah was out eat and to buy a new pair of sneakers after having worn a hole in the pair she had brought on the camping trip, thinking about the lock in that night.

Flashback- hospital

Daniel had left, and Yara was left alone in her hospital room, resting a bit as she listened to some music on her phone. What a lovely birthday innit?
Since she was now 18, there was no obligation to inform her mother, so she told them not to. She couldn’t face her mother about it, for so many reasons, her mother could just not know. For her own good.
And as she promised, Yara had messaged Jordan telling him what happened, and where she was, ending up in him coming there and staying with her the whole time, sleeping on the chair next to her bed until she was let out in the morning of the next day after a few precaution check ups, making sure she was okay and functioning normally.
Honestly, Yara didn’t know what she would have done without Jordan in her life, he was one of the most important people in her life, he was basically like a brother to her, and she loved him with every fibre of her being.

Present time- Jordan’s place

“Rise and Shine”

”Is it morning already?” yara mumbled as she woke up in the morning to Jordan walking into her room with a tray of food, making her smile, yet hide her eyes as he turned on the lights and sat on the bed with her.

Ever since the hospital and him finding out about her problem, Jordan has been a lot more cautious and observant, making sure she ate. Which was indeed something she appreciated him doing, it was sweet, really showed he cared about her.

“Alright so on today’s menu; we apparently have Riker’s crepes, French toast, eggs, hand squeezed orange juice, and sandwiches if questionable origin - where do we wanna start”
”Oh my god” she said quietly as she raised her brows looking at the tray, it just looked so good honestly. J, what-”

”questionable sandwiches sound like they could kill you, so probably not those” she chuckled and ran her hand through her messy morning hair, moving it away from her face.

Valerie nodded with a shrug as her 14-year-old-but-more-intelligent-than-most-high-school-seniors cousin responded, ”They’re not smart they’re just rich af” she said, regarding the idiots in Aki’s supposedly good private school.
”Its not like he can even have his go to comfort food, because the only pizza he eats is from her family’s restaurant.”
”Oof that’s sad. They do have good pizza” she said
”I don’t care what, but there’s gotta be something that will make him feel better, preferably by the time I get back home.”
”Hopefully.” she agreed ”I’d give him advice but I know absolutely nothing about dealing with a breakup” she shrugged, since she had never actually had a breakup since you have to have a relationship for that, and that was just another one of the things she didn’t have.

Valerie sipped her coffee and shook her head at her cousin’s comment about the insecure WiFi as birthday entertainment ”Any interesting findings yet?” she smirked ”Speaking of, do you have anything planned for while you’re here or do you have a list of cafes with very insecure WiFi to try out?” she chuckled lightly and sipped her coffee again

“Please, it can’t hear,” She replied flippantly after Daniel pointed out her swearing. But, to be sure, Delilah then stopped at turned to them, switching her focus from getting Daniel out to looking at the baby, squinting to see any hint of acknowledgement from the baby. But no, just mindless staring. Nothing new there. Daniel had taken this opportunity of her distraction to escape her grasp, to which she responded in opening and directing him towards the front door.

Before Delilah could try to respond to his comment about her having someone else in the house, the damned baby started crying again. After the countless times she had to deal with it, this time Delilah tried to ignore it. At least until Daniel was gone. But that very quickly didn’t go to plan when he drew attention to it by pointing and asking about it, to which Delilah shut her eyes and sighed, then turned to walk back into the middle of the living room while Daniel - who still hadn’t left - started asking questions, that was the exact reason why she wanted him to leave. She let him continue to talk and ask while she awkwardly lifted the baby out of the playpen…-esque thing that Lily-Ann had bought and started to attempt in cradling it.

“Why are you even here?” She finally snapped back, using his own question against him. Then Delilah sighed, knowing she couldn’t leave his questions unanswered. “I don’t know, you’re asking the wrong person about this. Maybe she will send it away to… whatever it is you just said, I don’t know,” She answered vaguely, and perhaps unconvincingly.

How about you?” She asked, wondering if he was as well having as good a time as she was. “It definitely is, especially somewhere you don’t expect to make friends.” That was something she wasn’t excited about, she wanted to stay in New York with her friends but of course, mothers new restaurant was priority. “Just some coffee and working on school” She nodded, motioning to her laptop sitting on the table.

Maddy asked if he enjoyed the camping trip, and he shrugged. “Saw an old flame that hates my guts, so that was fun. At least she has a good reason for hating me…oh joy.” He said sarcastically. He nodded when she explained why she was there. “I’m just getting breakfast because I didn’t feel like eating at home. And I like scones. I blame my upbringing in England for that.” He joked, taking a sip of his coffee.

“Oh thats too bad” She frowned. “What’d you do?” It couldn’t have been too bad, but people fall out for a lot of different reasons, bad or not. She had picked up on his sarcasm, obviously he knew what he did was wrong. “Yeah its like that sometimes. And who doesnt love starbucks” She smiled. “Oh England? That’s neat. I was born in France and lived there for mostly my whole life” She added. There were some classics from France that she liked such as chicken cordon, quiche lorraine, and the fresh croissants from the bakery down the street.

“Where’s the fun in that?”

“It was worth trying… But ok, I like surprises.” She did and she also knew he prepared something great, or she was just hoping he did. But after all the crazy stories she heard from him she didn’t have to hope. “Just wondering why this early?” Before getting in the car, she glanced at him one last time with a playful smile as if she was waiting for an answer but she knew he wouldn’t give her that. And she didn’t want to know now when they were already driving to their location. It felt like it was a short drive when it actually wasn’t. Maybe it wouldn’t feel like that if the two of them never talked before, but they did and she was getting more and more comfortable with him, each day. As they talked about the camping trip and how it went, she leaned on a car window with crossed arms, enjoying the conversation and nature around them - an open field, actually, until she noticed where he was taking her.

“What?” With a whisper, she straightened up again, looking towards the man both confused and happy. Confused because she wasn’t sure she was seeing things right, still didn’t know what was actually happening but happy because she had a guess, and she loved it. When they finally stopped, her gaze remained on him, as well as a wide smile, as he came to her side to open the door for her. 'What? How-" Ignoring his question for a second, she slowly stood up, now staring at the scene in front of them. Lost for words. She was right - there was a hot air balloon waiting for them. She just couldn’t believe he’d done that, she was expecting something special but… not like this. “Well, I have to trust you now. Should I even ask how you know how to do that?” she quietly joked, meeting his eyes again. “I do. And I love it,” quickly adding, serious this time, her smile softened but she was still visibly very excited. “So, will you now tell me everything?”

Maddy asked what he did to make Ruby hate him, and he sighed. “I …cheated on her. She was my first girlfriend, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I guess I wanted to try something else, so I kissed another girl. She found out, and set our garbage cans on fire. Yeah, I know that was a bit much, but that’s just how she is. I regret what I did, and wish I could make it up to her. That won’t be easy, though. Once you betray her, she shuts down and won’t let you back in…” She mentioned she was born in France and he grinned. “Fromage, Bonjour, Eiffel Tower, Ce’est le vie. I have no clue what I just said.” He admitted.

She rested her head on her hand as he spoke about his cheating mishap. How someone could cheat? She didn’t know that, but she did know that he sounded upset and it sounded like he really did love her. “I can tell you really like her” She started. “Give her some time, and then try to approach the situation differently. Listen instead of talk you know?” She added. Before shoving something in someone face, it was easier to listen to what they have to say. And if you listen enough to understand what they really want, thats better than anything.

She started laughing after he had spoken some french, which made no sense together. “Ah le fromage, c’est tres fantastique” Cheese was good, if you weren’t vegan. “You said cheese, hello, obviously eiffel tower, anddd its life” She chuckled, shaking her head at the obvious lack of french. “French really is a beautiful language”

Maddy explained that he should give Ruby time and let her come to him. “Right, of course. I can’t corner her, because that’ll make things worse. This will take time.” Maddy started laughing at Henry’s French attempt, causing him to smile sheepishly. She said something in French, explaining what he said while chuckling. “Heh…I tried. I just said everything I knew, honestly. Maybe I could ask Ruby when things get sorted out…oh, my ex. She’s from Canada and knows French Canadian. It’s different from French, though, isn’t it?”

She nodded. “Exactly. Everything takes time, and if it works out then great… if not maybe its for the better right?” Pestering and bugging would get nowhere especially if the other person is hurt. “Ahh yeah French is difficult if its not your first language. Nothings impossible though” She had seen a couple people learn French, and it wasn’t too bad. “Very different actually. You wouldn’t think so but it is, especially the accent as well. The accents are what throw people off, whichh is what I do when I talk to someone” She chuckled. “Usually people are surprised by the accent, and normally compliment it…” It got repetitive.

Maddy explained that pestering Ruby would just push her way further. He nodded, sighing. “You’re right. I just have to see what happens.” She then explained how difficult French was, and he laughed. “Yeah, it’s definitely not easy. It’s a beautiful language, though. Oh, really? I actually thought they were similar. Guess not. I hope I can talk to her about it. What’s the difference besides the accent?” He asked.

“Yeah, a lot of people dont notice that its different. The vocabulary and pronunciation is different. Quebecois can be very informal, using a lot more cultural references and expressions unique to French Canada. Its quite interesting seeing the differences.” She explained. Stuff like this was really interesting to Maddy and she often spent time reading and learning. “Its not like someone from France can’t understand French Canadian but its a little more difficult to process.” Speaking from experience, it was harder and sometimes conversations were misinterpreted.

Maddy explained the the differences between the vocabulary and pronunciation. She nodded about how French Canadian was more informal. “Yeah, Ruby had explained a little bit of it. It’s cool how you can sort of understand it. Is it kinda like people from the South talking to people from the North?” He asked, trying to get an idea of the differences.

Is it morning already?

A soft smile graced his lips as he joined Yara on the bed - “yep 8 am on a Saturday” he responded. Jordan was always an early riser - though no one could beat Riker with waking up early. He may be late almost every where - but that man did have a strict schedule of waking up at 5 am everyday to go surfing. How that man continues to be his energetic self with only 5 hours of sleep - who the hell knew. And those were the nights he wasn’t doing guitar solos until 3 am.

Jordan smiled as they looked around at the food Riker had left out for them. “Honestly- why doesn’t he do this for us every day?” Jordan joked - taking a sip of the perfectly tart juice before taking the sand which and staring at it. “Alright - I’m going to risk it.” He whispered - taking a bite hoping for the best. Though it actually was pretty good - seemingly a chicken salad sandwich. “Okay probably shouldn’t have doubted his kitchen skills” he laughed.

“So do you have any plans before the lock in?” Jordan questioned - raising his eyebrow as he looked at her. “I have another recording session in an hour if you want to come by? The Jonas brothers have a session before me and practically begged me to drag you along… if you’re up for it?”

”It’s weekend, 8 am isn’t morning” she said huffing our a chuckle lightly shaking her head, as she sat up even though it was supposedly not morning, but she was indeed in a good mood.

“Honestly- why doesn’t he do this for us every day?”
”Good question. Should start waking him up in the morning with protest signs or something” she replied with a smirk.

Then Jordan took his shot and tried the unknown sandwich, finding out it was actually a good one ”Well damn” she said, mental noting in her mind that Riker has some kitchen skills to use ”What’s in it though?” she asked, regarding the sandwich.

“So do you have any plans before the lock in? Yara sipped some orange juice as Jordan asked her about her plans, and added that be had a recording session, and the Jonas Brothers wanted her to come as well. ”Damn haven’t seen those idiots in ages.” she said, referring to the Jonas brothers. ”I don’t really have anything planned, but annoying you at your recording session is always a good plan” she said.
