Backstabber

Harrison’s countenance contorted into a visage of displeasure as he registered Corin’s words. The revelation hit him like a thunderbolt. A peculiar sensation stirred within him. He instinctively touched his ear, as if questioning the fidelity of his hearing.

“Letters? You receives letters?” Harrison’s laughter, an enigmatic blend of amusement and disdain, filled the hallowed chamber. He gracefully descended upon a jagged tome-laden stone, his fingers delicately cradling the cup Corin had offered him. His gaze oscillated between the two companions, his smile was cryptic, difficult to decipher. Was it a genuine expression or a mask concealing deeper emotions?

Te had called the wretched lady a good actress but perhaps he was even a better one, or worst because his emotions threatened to show.

“It tickles my sensibilities, my dear Ilyas, to think that a friend of my youth could not deign to extend even a solitary missive my way. I must confess, I entertained notions of your arm being broken or your mastery of the English language eluding you. But, as it turns out, you are safe and hearty, are you not?” Harrison asked, something in his eyes flickering till he blinked, remembering that someone else was here. “Perhaps Lord Ilyas, you were simply too busy bedding a lover. Where the women in the place you went so beautiful that I was… hmm what is that word again, forgotten?” Harrison asked the smile how ever forced it was never leaving his face as he placed his finger over his mouth. He had called Ilyas Lord Ilyas instead of simply Ilyas, something he had never really quite done in a while. He placed his cup down on the stone turning to Corin “I’m sure you know he does love the art of the bedding. he’s quite good in that and he brags about it all the time. Was he bedding any ladies when you guys were together? Do tell how did you guys meet” After all Harrison did want to know how Ilyas had met his supposed replacement- see, Harrison did not dislike Corin. He seemed like quite a great guy, Harrison could see himself being friends with Corin, it was if it was written in the stars you could say, something that was destined.

Corin, had a mysterious appeal to him- Harrison has never really heard of a man named Corin Blackwood, and with his accent, Harrison could tell he was not an englishman. The clothes he wore as well, the color of night, with no bright color whatsover did interest Harrison. To put it simply, Corin was like a painting one would try hard to find the meaning of it. Harrison wanted to find the meaning of Corin, he wanted to know his story. But even with all that, he could not help but to be a little bitter that the man, Ilyas, that he had known since he was quite young could not be bothered with sending a letter to him when Harrison had sent countless, he could not even send one that he would be returning- Harrison had to found out from seeing him inside the Queen’s ball. He did say that yes, he would confront Ilyas after all he did not wish to cause a scene that would make a bad impression on the new person he had the opportunity to be acquitted with- Corin, but it seems that Harrison could not hold his tongue when the topic of letters came to be. To paint it in a drawing, think about it like this- Your friend, your dearest of friend, one so close to you that the line between friendship and blood relations is blurred, did not send a lick of a letter- not even when your father had died and you needed comforted, not even during the days to celebrate your birth, and not even once when you had send countless of letters, but he was eager to send letters to someone he had met while away. It was even possible that wherever Ilyas went, he was always right next to Corin, so would letters be a necessity when they were so near each other?

Harrison took a sip of his drink, looking inside the castle and when he saw Lady Aurelia walking his expression turned sour as he looked away dropping the glass once more. He had not that when he had done it, it was not quite noticeable, but it seems that Corin had as he asked a question that made Harrison turn to him. “The lady would possibly jump if she was in your presence, dear Ilyas, but you are not wrong to say I had a bad luck with a lady- just not in the way you think. If I was ever interested in courting the lady”, And he never was, “That interest is on the ground my father lays. The eldest daughter of the Ellis family, she’s quite multiface no? A heart filled with rock, I can see why my mother does not like such a family.”
