I actually prefer writing in silence. it’s how I read too. that way I can kind of hear the writing in my head 
otherwise I get distracted. I can’t even listen to music half the time

Me writing in complete silence does not work, lol, I have the same thing as with reading. I would just get distracted too easily by my thoughts. The sound sort of serves as a way to get my brain occupied enough to stay focused. Though what you day does make sense as well it works for you like that!
