Watched Dorothea deliver her words with a cool and composed demeanor, her guard firmly in place, he felt the desire to retaliate once more. No longer was any admiration clouding him; it was still there but it would consume his words. Her dismissive attitude fueled his determination to make her regret crossing paths with him. “Very well,” Magnus began to retort. “I’m delighted to know that my words hold such little significance to you. It’s clear that your opinion of me is of no consequence.”
Part way through her bow to him, he took a step forward and pressed the side of his face against hers to whisper in her ear. “But mark my words,” he whispered, his words as sharp as a knife’s edge. “While you may think yourself untouchable, I assure you that I can be just as formidable. You haven’t seen the last of me.” Then he took a step back quickly for her to turn away. Magnus’ put a light-humoured smile on his face and kindly called to her as she departed, “Until our paths cross again, Lady Addington. I eagerly await the opportunity to verbally spar with you once more.” Watching her back leave his sight, Magnus knew that winning her over would be a near-impossible task, but he was determined to leave a lasting impression on her.
