Lydia wondered what had been playing on Magnus’ mind prior to her approach, though she decided not to inquire right away. “Oh, indeed, but time has a peculiar way of flowing, Your Grace,” Lydia told him after he had reminded her of their many interactions. “I suppose the focus of the Queens’ presentation and the return of my sister has skewed my perception on time.” Initially most of their interactions had only existed with the presence of Cassian or Aurelia, both of whom he was closer with in very different ways. Even if it was only by a year, it seemed Lydia’s younger age created a natural distance between her and the Prince in such conversation.
Though upon struggling with the absence of her sister, Lydia would like to think she had matured more so over the past year - and the fact became apparent following the change in dynamic between herself and Magnus. More honest, open and comfortable conversation had transpired. It seemed Lydia established her own close relationship with the Prince, as her siblings had before. Hence, as he had mentioned, they had spoken many times in the past year.
As he continued, Lydia wasn’t sure what to make of his self-proclaimed label of a ‘cloaked obstacle’. “Is this a euphemism of some sorts?” She asked with a slight laugh. “Ah, I fear there is no tale worth reciting from the ball quite yet,” Lydia told him as he turned the question onto her. “My parents have been hard at work finding suitors, though that is hardly news,” She continued, disappointed to not be able to provide anything of interest as an answer.
“As much as I would love to say yes,” Lydia began as the pair leaned in, with Magnus hoping she had some form of scheme for him to be involved in. “I believe I ought to limit my rebellious inclinations for the evening - after a questionable presentation to the Queen.” She told him, though it was soon followed by a small, suggesting smile. “Unless, of course, you had any ideas. After all, it would be rather improper of me to oblige to a Prince’s wishes.”
