“You wouldn’t dare,” Dorothea echoed with a soft chuckle, a mischievous smile gracing her lips. “But regardless, I appreciate your kind words.”
She glanced at her mother and Maisie, taking solace in the fact that her mother was preoccupied with the excitement of the debutante era which meant she had not been entirely focused on finding Dora a match this season, as there is other minor thing to keep her tea thirsty mama of the ton manner of living at bay.
A subtle surprise flickered across her face as he mentioned the mysterious lady. “Is that so?” she questioned, arching an eyebrow playfully. "Come on now don’t be shy, who is it? she then asked.
“Well then, in any case I can only imagine that this lucky lady will be in for a treat.” She cast her gaze around the room, observing the debutantes and the other guests. “That is of course if you stop being a potential coward” she added with a jokingly playful tone to her voice. With that, she gracefully maneuvered to avoid providing a direct response to the question herself. “stories and a dance, I must admit, so far this ball has not been as dreadful as I was expecting it to have been” she admitted as lifting her hand for the two of them to proceed to the dance floor.
“Do not forget I am still quite eager to hear about that picturesque Highland escapade you mentioned earlier,” she playfully reminded him as they glided across the dance floor.
In that moment, in the sheer joy of the dance, feeling a sense of liberation as the weight of her worries seemed to have receded into the background as the music and the enchanting lights surrounded her.
