"Calm down?” Atlas chuckled, mocking Archie. "You expect me to calm down? No, Archibald, I will not calm. down.” Atlas moved closer to the pair, observing Adeline’s cautious behavior as she positioned herself behind Archie. Which made him realize she had never witnessed him in such a condition before. He could not help the anger he felt; he clenched his fists, trying to regain control of his emotions, but the overwhelming rage consumed him. It was clear that he needed to find a way to calm down before he did something he would regret.
Atlas rolled his eyes in disbelief as he glanced at the two individuals before him. With a dismissive gesture, he firmly placed the letters he held onto Archie’s chest, causing a few to slip from his grasp and scatter onto the floor, before getting close to Archie’s face and saying, "I truly cannot wait to hear every lie you come up with to get yourself out of this."He knew his friend more than anyone could; well, at least he thought he did. Atlas felt deeply disappointed—so much for brotherhood. He thought to himself. Out of all the eligible ladies in the ton, Archibald’s affections had to fall upon none other than his beloved sister, Adeline.
"And you, Adeline, truly, I must say, your choice couldn’t have been more impeccable. Among the countless gentlemen in the ton, I wouldn’t have even minded if you were to choose Harrison.”As the words escaped his lips, an immediate sense of regret came over him. Atlas would never allow his sister to be swayed by Harrison. Despite their friendship, Atlas knew all too well the true nature of Harrison and believed he was not deserving of her.
Disregarding her brother’s words, Adeline gently stooped down to retrieve one of the letters he had let slip from his grasp. She was aware of the impropriety, yet the sight of her name in the letter made her heart drop , causing her hands to tremble as she started to read. Gazing up at Archie, her voice barely audible, she finally spoke , “Arch… what is this?”
