yeah I think it’s two actually ? everyone gets one boy and one girl
in the book they have “breeders” it’s one of the jobs for people who are “unmatchable” 
or something. like if you don’t get a match you get taken away to become a breeder and make babies for the society

I feel like the idea of forced proximity for matches would be fun
opens up all kinds of possibilities
plus I mean the book is basically about her going to that other civilization to be with her crush and joining the revolution to destroy the society soooooo
maybe I add in some aspects of that too

bc they also have a thing where once you turn 72 or something you have to die
like they give you a pill and you have to die bc you’re a drain on resources or something so they kill you off before you’re too much of a burden to society

nah bc it’s ingrained that you don’t really have those kinds of interactions before your match
also people are given pills every morning for breakfast? or like part of breakfast? idk
and I’m 95% one of them has to make everyone infertile. bc there’s no way people aren’t accidentally making babies unless they’re prevented from doing it

I think the babies are lab made and implanted? I’m not sure. there was a section of a chapter on it tho. I’ll have to reread the book
