Is it okay for foreigners to wear a Kimono?
My opinion:
The actual culture seems fine with it. I find this kind of thing as people more appreciating the culture by doing this.
What are your thoughts?

I don’t know what a kimono is
Traditional outfit in Japanese culture.
Oh. I thought it was just called a dress
I think it’s fine for tourists to wear kimonos. It’s no different to buying a kilt if you come to Scotland (although like no one wears them)
I don’t see the problem, as long as the people wearing it show the culture the due amount of respect! Basically, not like Logan Paul
I don’t see problem with it.
I think it’s fine. I think we need to clear on what cultural appropriation and what cultural appreciation is because the idea that engaging with other cultures is cultural appropriation is wrong and a flat out lie:
Cultural appropriation = renaming the kimono and claiming it’s anything other than Japanese, whilst benefitting from wearing it whilst Japanese people don’t
Cultural appreciation = referring to the kimono as it’s proper name, being aware that it’s Japanese and aware of its purpose
Of course, if they’re being respectful.
So I go to a yearly japanesss festival in my country. a lot of people have kimono on at that.
There is a Danish festival in Japan. are they not allowed to do that.
Honestly I think most people are happy to share there culture. often when you see someone complain about stuff like this its not even there culture.
I mean if someone was wearing a sacred dress meant only for those worthy then yes I would be pretty pissed but I don’t think a kimono is that so I don’t see a problem with tourists wanting to blend in with the crowds and culture
Don’t be like Oli London y’all.
Mixing up different cultures…
Yes. Stop pretending that the fact that you were born into certain culture gives you some kind of rights to it.
That’s a pretty blunt approach that I can agree with to an extent.
It’s honestly coming from the fact that I don’t feel like I have some kind of right to the culture I was born into. No other reason behind my opinion. I didn’t create it. I have no right in saying who can and cannot use/wear it.
And I hate the fact that certain people like to pretend that they have this right, to victimize themselves. I just hate this kind of people.
So you don’t feel a sense of entitlement to that part of your culture?
Not in the slightest.
