Can you make a good manga if you're bad at drawing but good at writing?

You can always start drawing comics, it’s never too late, even now!

The thing is, most of the audience have a certain expectations when it comes to comic’s art style. A the minimum, the art style has to be bearble to look at and the characters must look lively,. If your art style is like a drunk 5-year-old, you’ll lose a lot of audience. It’s sad, but it’s the truth.

I’ve seen people who complained in the comments about one’s art style being too ugly, and they would stop reading them. They think you’re not serious with your manga so they’ll stop reading. Yes, I’ve seen some who said they will stop reading in the comments

So, what you can do?
You can also partner up with/hire an artist who will help you draw the panels after you give them the dialogue.

At the end of the day, do what that makes you happy!

  • Can you make good manga when good writing but bad art skills?
  • Are there any good manga(s) with bad art you know?
  • What are your thoughts on the readers critising the author’s art?
  • Do you think this mentality should changed? Will it change?

Well you don’t have to be the artist. You can just write and have someone else draw for you.

I’m using this thing as an example… so basically this is a comic on webtoon and the artist is actually really good at drawing but things like this take a lot of work and stuff so sometimes you get panels with just straight stick figures lol. But it really fits the story because the story isn’t serious and is more comedic and it really works. But if you’re making something like romantic and serious or something… yeah maybe hire an artist.

You can collaborate with someone.

There is a mangaka duo I like, their names are Aida and Iro, and they combine their names to make Aidairo. They are the ones who make the manga series “Jibaku Shounen Hanako-Kun”.

Aida is the artist, they draw the panels, covers, ect. Iro is the writer, they handle the plot, write the chapters, ect. (At least, that’s what I’ve heard).

You can find a friend or anyone who would like to collaborate.

Okay fun story

The author of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 doesn’t have amazing art on a technical level but…it’s still good? It still functions? One Punch Man actually got redrawn. His writing is also amazing. So yes, you can still make good manga if your art isn’t amazing especially since you can collaborate, get redraws or even just get away with it :joy:

@Artists what do you guys think?

Collabs are great. Teams are behind a lot of my favorite comics.
