Coding School
~ Applications for the internet
The material covered the first week is based on W3Schools tutorials for HTML and CSS. It is recommended that you follow the HTML and CSS tutorials before starting, or meanwhile doing, the first assignment.
This is a wiki, feel free to add to it as you learn more about programming for the web. I will add to it myself, but I unfortunately did not have time to prepare as much as intended.
All important posts will be linked in the original post so that you will be able to find them easily.
Feel free to ask any questions to me (@fraud), @Yomama and @passionfruit. I’m open to give help over voice call on discord and we could even make use of screen sharing.
Best Coding Practices

- Avoid deep nesting
- Limit line length
- Use proper naming conventions - The names should be descriptive
- Use consistent temporary names
- Keep the code simple and readable
- Write comments and documentation - But avoid obvious comments
- File and folder organization
- Separation of code and data
HTML Fundamentals
CSS Fundamentals
Create a web page with a simple editor
For more details see: HTML Editors
Using a simple text editor like Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac) is a good way to learn HTML.
Step 1: Open Notepad (PC) or Open TextEdit (Mac)
Step 2: Write some HTML
Step 3: Save the HTML page
Name the file “index.htm” (or .html, there is no difference) and set the encoding to UTF-8 (which is the preferred encoding for HTML files).
Step 4: View the HTML page in your browser
Open the saved HTML file in your favorite browser (double click on the file, or right-click - and choose “Open with”).

Wonders how the heck I will be able to do this
Nah, I should be fine, I did something like this before so I think I can do it, hopefully
Yeah, you’ll manage! And I’m always here to help
So I’m I
I believe in youuuu!
I can’t have access to the GitHub link because my email is iNvaLid
Wait do you you need you email to do it?
You don’t need to access sGutHub at the moment though so we can try to figure dit out before you need it
I needed to sign up to access, i don’t know what happened
Hm, weird… I didn’t think you had to sign up for that
There’s nothing important there either way but you have to sign up to put your code there later on. I know people who had problem with it so I ca n help you create one if needed hehe.
That would be awesome, thanks
Should I just create a random new gmail for it?
Whatever you think works, i checked my gmail but there isn’t anything about confirming my gmail address in the web
