When thinking about RPs and common tropes, nothing comes to mind right away.
The only real cliche that comes to mind, is with how characters approach each other by bumping into each other. It can certainly be very effective, and I am guilty of approaching characters by having mine accidentally bump into others, but it is definitely overused.
Exactly. When I was still new to RP I joined this medieval RP and everybody had to introduce their characters to one another. And there were so many characters one of the RPers had to something along the lines of “I swear if one more person makes their characters bump into each other,…” And until that moment I never realised how overused bumping is. That’s why I often pay attention to approaching and try to make it different. Like how In a newer school RP, I made one of my characters think she saw a snake and drop the book she was reading into another character’s face acidentally. Later on she realised the snake was nothing but a fallen branch and that there was a person next to her when in panic she sent the book flying.
Because why not crescent moon needs some love too ok
I agree that “bumping” is probably the most overused trope out there in the RP world xD it’s the go-to interaction starter for when you don’t have ideas because blocks
Also, academies and schools (especially for the gifted) are honestly a common trope for me. While it is like legendary or like classic, I think that there should be an awesome twist or new concept to it, though, just like @.Glitterfist’s “Just Another School for the Gifted.”
