The ice remembers every fall, every victory, and every skater who thought they were ready. Talent gets you on the ice, pressure decides who stays there.

Ice Skating Spinning GIF by adultsskatetoo

Welcome to Crestview Ice Academy, an elite ice skating team where talent it currency and pressure is the price of admission. Everyone here is chasing the same dream, even though only a few will stand at the top of the podium. Some skaters were born in the rink, molded by early mornings and ever growing expectations. Others clawed their way in, hungry enough to risk everything just to be seen. Different backgrounds, same ice, and nowhere to hide when things start to crack.

Life here exists in two world: on and off the ice. On the ice it is all about early mornings at the rink, aching muscles, mental exhaustion, rivalries or respect, and hopefully that moment of absolute perfection under competition lights. Off the ice, there’s tension, mental breakdowns, alliances, but also found family, and the type of drama that comes with being surrounded by the same people over and over again. Those people who truly understand everything you’re sacrificing.

Romance might happen, slowly, recklessly, sometimes at the worst possible time. Teammates, rivals, complex dynamics that may threaten your focus. But this is far from a love story. The skating matters. The pressure from coaches and staff matters. The sponsors matter. The stakes are real, and every relationship is shaped by them

Setting & Context

This RP takes place in the Midwestern American town of Crestview. It is focused on the competitive figure skating team at Crestview Ice Academy. While housing is available through the academy, it is not obligatory as long as characters can commute within 30 minutes. This creates different lifestyles within the team: some skaters are fully immersed in academy life, while others try to balance training with family expectations, school, jobs, or a version of normal life outside the rink.

Crestview itself is not a glamorous city, but skating has put it on the map. The town quietly revolves around the academy, local businesses sponsor skaters, competition banners hang in shop windows, and everyone seems to know who’s winning and who’s slipping behind. Success brings attention, support, and opportunity; failure brings rumors, judgment, and the constant feeling of being replaced by the next promising talent.

The rink is both a second home and a pressure chamber. Early mornings, late nights, shared locker rooms, overheard arguments, whispered coach feedback, and the constant presence of rivals mean privacy is rare. Skaters are always being watched, by coaches, by staff, by sponsors, by each other. Even small mistakes feel public. Progress is visible. So is decline.

Junior division skaters do not receive a salary outside of prize money, though all training, equipment, travel, and competition expenses are covered. Adult skaters receive a decent living wage on top of that, tying their financial stability directly to their performance, ranking, and continued value to the academy. For many characters, skating isn’t just a passion, it’s their main source of income, their future plan, and their leverage in relationships with coaches, sponsors, and even family.

Outside the rink, skaters are still tied to the academy through sponsorship obligations, media appearances, local events, school or college commitments, and public expectations to be ā€œrole models.ā€ Mistakes off the ice can have consequences on the ice. Rumors spread fast in a small town. Privacy is a luxury few can afford.

Rules

Rules

Max 3 skaters + 1 staff member per person for now. I might expand this at a later time but I want to make sure the characters all get the effort they deserve

Please plot with others, it’s very character driven and connections are essential

No godmoding (unless agreed by the other party) or pre-deciding competition outcomes.

Be respectful OOC. I have the right to decide someone is no longer welcome if you aren’t respectful to others.

I understand that life might happen and make it so you can be less active. Try to inform others beforehand and if needed allow a (temporary) adoption of your character.

Events

Events

Training camp
The first event will be a training camp, this is were the team will be ā€˜selected’, no worries your characters automatically all make it through this event but still there will be some bootcamps and stuff but also time to socialise and get to know this years group!

Free (training) period

First Regional Competition
The stakes start of with this regional competition. This competition plays a role if your character can make it to compete in the nationals (most will!)

Free (training) period

Christmas Gala Skate
A more fun and lighthearted event around Christmas time where they can all showcase their skating but can also socialise with others and get sponsors

Free (training) period

National Competitions
Even higher stakes where they will be competing on national level. If they place high enough, they get to go on to the world stage!

Free (training) period

Last day of training
This is the last day of the season where they train at the highest level. Sort of a sentimental moment is possible, or fixing those last minute issues if they go to the world stage.

Travel to world championships
More or less a free period travelling to and exploring the destination of the world championships.

World Championships
This is the moment it’s all about, getting that trophy and showcasing yourself at the highest level. Ultimate stakes, ultimate pressure and ultimate drama awaits!

End off season party
Free period to tie all those loose ends together and say goodbyes for now

*these events may still change but it’s mostly to get an indication of what to expect!

Storygame mechanisms

SG mechanisms

This RP will contain some SG elements. They will mainly be used to allow for a fair judgement on the competions. Further details will follow, but it combines polls I will share every now and then, as well as judgement in points based on your posts. Things that impact is how many risks do you take, your qualities (you start all with max 15, but they can increase or decrease) how good are your connections (especially in pairs), how well and often did you train, any injuries, and a randomness score on top.

Just a little extra post to give some options for characters that directly connect to mine:

  • The past ice dancing partner of Cathy, beware this character did kiss her without consent so you have to be okay with that backstory
  • The current ice dancing partner of Cathy
  • A pairs figure skating partner for my guy Evan
  • A son or daughter of my owner/head coach. She won gold at the Olympics as first African-American woman at singles at 19 years old before ending her career right after. The kid can either be a skater themselves, or work for the company. She’s around 40 years old, so the kid can be any age under 21.

I honestly might be interested in the kid of the owner/head coach. Also if you think that you need help with anything let me know I know this world pretty decently at least as of like 8 years ago or so

Also for those too lazy to do some research and don’t know this yet, a more detailed explanation of the differences between the disciplines:

Singles:
Singles skating is one skater performing alone on the ice. The focus is on individual technical skill and performance: jumps (like axels and triples/quads), spins, footwork, speed, and overall presentation. Skaters are judged on both their technical difficulty and how well they perform their program.

Pairs:
Pairs skating is done by a mixed-gender duo and combines singles-style skating with highly athletic partner elements. This includes lifts (where the male partner lifts and throws the female partner into the air), throw jumps, side-by-side jumps and spins, death spirals, and synchronized footwork. The athletic and technical difficulty is usually higher than in ice dance, and pairs skaters train heavily for power, stability, and coordination.

Ice Dancing:
Ice dance is also performed in mixed-gender pairs, but the focus is on musicality, rhythm, precision, and connection between partners rather than big jumps and explosive lifts. The skating is closer to ballroom dance on ice, with intricate footwork, close holds, and storytelling through movement. There are no throw jumps or high overhead lifts, and jumps are minimal or very simple. What matters most is how well the pair matches each other’s timing, edges, expression, and interpretation of the music.
