D&D Adventure Begins - The Kraken

Whoops. Sorry for my poor spelling of Scholar.

“The Kraken is coming!”
“Watch the seas!”
“The Kraken is coming!”
“Can you hear it come closer?”

These were the whispers that spread throughout the land. The citizen either ignored it and got on with life or they packed up and ran. All but five, that is. Five individuals had their interest piqued and crossed different parts of the land towards the ports in Neverwinter to battle the beast before it destroys the city.

Almost there, a pair of elves was first to reach ancient dwarf city of Gauntlgrym, just before the city of Neverwinter. They heard the news together and this family sprinted off, knowing the other would be right beside them. Another three were on their tails to help when they all came to a halt. The cult of the Kraken had blocked their path out of Gauntlgrym and toward Neverwinter with a mountain of rocks. Leaving only one choice; for the five to go the long way… back through Gauntlgrym and into the Neverwinter Wood, across to Mount Hotenow, where they’d go through it and into Neverwinter.

Disheartened by the plan to go the long way around, the group turned back, shocked to find they’re faced with nothing but wall. Then a glimpse of something. It disappeared. Then again. It was stairs, flickering in and out, and the only way out was up them. They had to be quick, vanishing stairs are so pesky! While climbing them they keep disappearing and one can lose their footing.

Something could happen on the stairs, so I need to rolls for your character. However, you can choose the order. If two people choose the same order position, I’ll roll (based on order on the poll of your pfp) to who gets that place and the other will have the empty one.

Which dice roll position would you like to take?
  • First roll
  • Second roll
  • Third roll
  • Fourth roll
  • Fifth roll

Can you explain what exactly this means? :eyes:

I think it’s like do you wanna roll first, last or in between
Deciding the order in which the group rolls :eyes:

Yeah, as ethereal said, it is a game of D&D, thus meaning that every challenge and battle your character faces, one die will be rolled to determine the outcome. Usually the higher the better in most circumstances.

Patrin never hesitated for a second and leapt onto the stairs, bounding up them. Kiya and Salazar were quite literally on Patrin’s tail. They pulled limps and shoved each other in order to beat the other up the stairs. Kiya made it first. Luckily, just was Salazar had their foot at the top, the stairs disappeared. They’d made it.
Next were the Silverfronds. They prepared themselves for the stairs’ silent whistle. Stepping onto their mark by leaning on their knee bent in front to stretch out their fingertips to graze the ground while their other leg was extended out behind them. Steady now. GO! The stairs appeared and Lucan was off first, taking large strides, but Thia’s tiny steps were faster and soon overtook Lucan. Thia made it to the top and turned just as the stairs vanished. Lucan scrambled but wasn’t quick enough and the step beneath their feet vanished. Thia’s reflexes were fast and caught Lucan, clasping forearms and swung them up.

Your rolls… Kiya = 12, Patrin = 2, Thia = 18, Salazar = 11, Lucan = 3

As the group are taking a minute to catch their breath, they hear what sounds to be a dinner party, the dings of cutlery on plates as you’re eating. Did they want to find out what it was or continue on through the ancient city?

Would any of the adventurers like to go check out what it is before returning to the path (and possibly the group if only some go) to continue onward? This is going to be some kind of monster/creature to battle. You can each choose separately, with or without discussing it.

Would your character like to see what the sound was?
  • Yes
  • No

The five looked up at the sound of crockery, Salazar and Patrin exchanged glances before turning their heads towards the fallen rock slab that used to be an outer wall of a religious temple. Now it leaned the other way and made up a entrance into the location the party or something was coming from. Four of them went over to the fallen wall, following the sounds, while Lucan sat there, legs spread and recovering his breath from the near fall.
Through the strange entrance, the four found themselves in a tomb-like room where the clinks of china was louder, almost echoing off the walls. Focusing on the centre on the room, a pile of plates, bowls, and plant pots started to rumble. Started to form some kind of shape. What looked like a pile of broken pottery, stood to reveal a monstrous body of jagged edges! He looked clumsy but they wouldn’t want to be in the way when he charged!

Okay, so you attack one at a time, whoever wants to go first or whoever is online. The creature attacks after each attack. How do you attack? Look at your character sheet and choose one of your three weapons or your skill. I will roll a d20 to see if you’re effective and you know what you need to roll by the roll number next to it.

Okay, just a quick think with this. It does say to describe how you’d use it, and also, it says any of those results. So if the die rolls 17+ then you get that but if you get a 2 on the die, nothing will happen.

The first of the four to have their weapon at the ready, was Thia, who had been aiming their shortbow and arrow since walking into the tomb room. Scanning the surroundings, ready to release the arrow at the slightest movement, which Thia did immediately as the Ceremic Golem stood. It got stuck in a chink its pottery (-1 damage to the creature) and took an unsteady step forward. Too close and knicked Thia’s side with a broken pottery edge. (-1 damage to Thia)

Rolls… Thia: 19 and Creature: 5

As the creature came close enough, Kiya sprayed their hands out in front of them. Concentrating, they managed to create a mini tornado of the broken pottery in the room around the golem. Confusing the giant as batted at it for minutes. (-2 damage to the creature) One of the pieces encircling the beast, cut Kiya’s arm on the way, making them clutch it and the tornado instantly fell. (-1 damage to Kiya)

With the Kiya’s tornado keeping the Ceremic Golem busy for so long, Patrin was able to grab their throwing daggers and get in position. They moved around the room and started throwing the daggers into its back while the tornado was still going. Direct hits every time. (-2 damage to the creature) Though like Kiya, Patrin too lost track of all the swirling pieces and one struck their face. (-1 damage to Patrin)
