Dial-Up Internet - What's that?

Life before fast internet and instant clicks with no wait time, what was that like?

That was Dial-Up Internet.

Has anyone experienced it? And how annoying was this noise?

^^^ This is the sound you’d hear every time you connected to the internet.

I had dial-up Internet all through the 90s and in the early 2000s… until broadband Internet came out.

Dial-up Internet was slow and annoying, and you could not receive or make phone calls while you were online unless you had an additional phone extension that was exclusively for using the Internet.

Yeah, broadband was amazing when it first came out.

I was going to add that it used the phone line too, but must have forgotten. Whoops

Oh god, everything about dial-up internet seems terrible. It makes a terrible noise, and it worked terribly. Also, I believe it only allowed you to either be on the internet or on the phone. What a terrible choice to have to make.

I didn’t experience it myself, but my older siblings did. They don’t remember it fondly.

I haven’t experienced dial-up internet, but I don’t find the sound annoying, I think it’s kinda cool! Of course, I wouldn’t be thinking that if I had to hear it every time I connected to the internet
