Discussion: Cinderella

So, I’m a huge Cinderella fan. I watch almost anything Cinderella and have always seen her as a strong independent woman… but that’s not always how she’s portrayed. People talk about Cinderella like she’s helpless and was rescued and that’s how she’s sometimes portrayed. I’ve never thought that about her and was beginning to assume that after watching so many Cinderella movies.
Then I watched this:

And realized that in the original movie, Cinderella wasn’t this helpless girl, but this strong woman that chased after her dreams.

What’s your opinion on Cinderella and do you agree with the video?

I’ll give the video a watch at some point but my initial opinions on Cinderella have always been ‘it’s the quintessential escapist fantasy fairy tale’. Though it has just enough under the surface to keep it vaguely relevant no matter where or when. The only vaguely problematic elements I can think of are the story revolving more or less around a dude and said dude saving the day and having a heroic lack of character while doing it.

It’s fine though

I am a huge Cinderella fan too.

Before watching the video too, I never believed she was a Damsel in Distress.

She was abused and yet, she didn’t break. She always remained what she was - kind and optimistic and nice, no matter what happened. She wanted to go to the ball so she went to the ball.

If that’s not strong, then I don’t know what strong is.

True enough, she got her happiness after she married the Prince, but she never lost hope. She never lost her belief in kindness and always remained brave.
