Discussion: Faux fur

Gonna give credit to @MeghanWrites for this idea because I asked for a controversial topic and she suggested this!

Now for many people you may think well faux fur is fake fur so no animal was harmed just like with fake leather. So I am here to tell you that, this is not always exactly true.

While it may say “faux fur” there can still be traces of real animal fur in there, as long as the percentage of fake fur is bigger than the real fur the company will still call it “faux”.

If you are buying faux fur because you are against real fur then ideally you need to ensure it is fully fake. I have fully fake fur on the hood of my coat as well as the collar of my jacket. I ensured this was the case before I got it. You can do research by looking at the companies website or even asking.

So what do you guys think of real fur?
What do you think of faux fur?

Please stay respectful. Don’t do what my friend did and threaten to beat somebody to death over it :woman_facepalming:

I don’t really find fur all that comfortable, and while in this kind of late capitalist society it’s near impossible (Definitely not affordable) to avoid all kinds of problematic purchasing, I think it’s still good to raise awareness about this kinda thing for sure.

But yeah, I don’t even really find faux fur all that comfy to begin with :joy:

Yeah same with me tbh it’s itchy and sweaty. Most faux furs are hella soft when you get them but over time they lose that and just become irritating.

I just buy jackets without any fur, problem solved :smile_cat::eyes::sparkles:

I feel bad, I have lots of jackets with fur, I didn’t think it was bad. :purple_heart: :butterfly:

It’s only bad depending on your perspective

Is it real fur?

My parents both have Canada Goose jackets, and the fur on the hood is real coyote fur.

I honestly don’t think fully fake fur is any issue at all. However the rules about the faux fur are really stupid and could really use a change. Why can companies say it’s faux when there is 51% fake and 49% real fur, that just doesn’t make sense to me and sounds really misleading

I don’t get how something can be half fake tbh, it’s either fake or it isn’t if you ask me :wolf::revolving_hearts:

Way better than wearing real fur, which creeps me out!

I think real fur is just wrong. I once had a coat with real fur and it made me really uncomfortable while wearing it. As I grew out of it I was so happy. I haven’t bought anything with real fur ever since.
Faux fur is something I don’t understand why they even make it. Why can’t they either make fake fur or take real fur? What’s the sense in faking something just to add a percentage of the real fur? Just make fake fur and leave the animals out of this.
Sometimes fake fur even looks better than real fur. And it doesn’t give you that uncomfortable thoughts like real fur does.

Fake fur can be better quality too, like it stays softer for longer
