So what do you guys think about surrealism? (gonna comment/talk about this but my brain is dead rn)
We looked at surrealist artists in art GCSE! Magritte’s work was fun to look at and analyse
I do prefer realism and romanticism but surrealism is also very interesting to me!
I gotta give it to Salvador Dali, that guy was a legend and he is my favorite surrealist artist, right before Rene Magritte and Frida Kahlo. If you wanna be creeped out check out Hans Bellmer and his dolls, it’s fascinating!
Even if I adore Dali my favorite painting is The Lovers II by Magritte. It’s just extremely sad when you know the full story behind it, how it was inspired by his mother and what he went through…
Oo wait Walt Disney and him made a short film! Salvador Dali. Have you seen it?
Yesss, it’s cool!
I love how they added some of the elements he used in his art like clocks and ants!
I love weird things like that so it was interesting to see the art styles portrayed in the animation.
Surrealism is awesome! Unlike realism, the posibilities of surrealism are endless, you have to rely on your imgination and create something that would never exist irl but looks lively in thenpicture! I mean, how cool is that!
I love surrealism. It takes two or more things and joins them together to create something new and bizarre. Something that will fill your mind with curiosity and wondering what on Earth is going on. For me, art that makes you think is the best kind of art.
Some classic favouites:
They’re really interesting to see! I think there’s something powerful about seeing something so lifelike and yet unnatural.
Surrealism is a really cool yet trippy thing. It takes reality and bends it, and that creativity is really interesting to look at. When you think about it, this can be seen in various different amounts of media such as in Alice in Wonderland or some artworks of Wizard of Oz.
What are some works you’ve seen surrealism in? How, like the OP said, do you feel about it? Have you ever attempted it? @Discussions @Artists
