I still don’t get why people act like white people originated in America, but when it comes to black Americans, they use the term “African American”, which highlights the fact that they weren’t originally from the US

Did the majority of black people come from Africa?

I don’t know how u can look at a white person and know where they’re from. Like, I’m so mixed, I wouldnt know what to call me haha. But I know black people can be super mixed too… :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging:

Exactly! And it seems super hypocritical to me! If we’re using the term “African American”, then the only people who should be straight-up “American” are the native Americans. The white Americans should, by extension, be called “European Americans”

But instead, we have African Americans and native Americans and it’s the white Americans who just call themselves american :woman_facepalming:t4:

Oh yeah I totally see your point.

The only place I’ve ever heard someone say Americans for white people would be on the news or something though.

Like we dont classify white people as americans here (in my little area) at all. We just say white people for white. Like on surveys, it doesn’t say americans or african americans, it says african americans or white.
If I saw a black person and a white person and wanted to say something about the white person, I would never say the American. I would say the white person. Haha.
Is this offensive?

I just say Black American because not all black people in America have African heritage. Some of them are Caribbean.
