To be honest, it really depends on the critic and it’s important to remember that they’re giving their opinion which we may not agree with. I know of many critics who don’t like specific genres so they can often be harsh in the critisism. However, a film is often really good if it can make someone who isn’t a fan of the genre like it. So I do believe most critics are fair with maybe a few exceptions!
@ ScreenSloths what do you guys think?

Yeah, it really depends on the critic or reviewer. Really bad ones who do it on bias are usually those who haven’t actually being paying attention to or even seen the film.
I love watching film reviews on youtube! They’re usually a good thing to just have on in the background and spark a good discussion. The ones I watch usually go in-depth and are really good and no matter what their stance is I usually love it anyway.
Tbh, I agree with this:
Because critics are people too. And I guess it depends on what their aim is. If their aim is to be objective and fair and they’re obviously biased, then yeah that’s probably not great.
But not related to film, I’ve seen some critics that thought that a book had a certain message when it didn’t and they completely misunderstood the book. Like they turned a book kinda originally about mental torture into a romance book about a guy saving a prostitute. But hey, I mean, it’s their thoughts lol.
To me it seems like they mostly over criticise but I think that’s just their job, they are supposed to criticise and give their opinions. As long as they give each movie a fair chance and don’t get rude, I think it’s okay.
I think we all have our personal biases and it is impossible for someone to be 100% impartial. However, a good critic acknowledges their biases and is transparent about them.
Like, so much evidence lately has shown that not even computers are completely unbiased. AI gets fed information by a biased society so it becomes biased (think of how police AI systems actively over-police black communities because they just reinforce previous biases). Really, there is no such thing as completely unbiased.
