Do you have to listen to every song of an artist to be a fan?

This is a frequent debate I see, especially within the emo/metal band fandoms. Some people think that you can’t call yourself a fan of a particular band or artist if you don’t listen to all their music. Others say that it shouldn’t be a requirement. What do you think? Do you have to listen to every song from an artist to call yourself a fan?

I don’t think so.

No you really don’t :joy: I hate this mindset people have of “if you don’t know this super rare unreleased song then you aren’t a true fan” how about send them a link to the song and say “you might like this”

Also you don’t have to like every song a band or artist does in order to be a fan but if you start saying stuff like “oh they suck now” then I’ll raise an eyebrow at you because have you ever considered that just because you don’t like something that doesn’t mean it’s bad? :joy:

You can dislike songs by anyone regardless of who they are but it doesn’t make you more or less of a fan.

I listen to a lot of bands, but there’s usually one album that I don’t like as much as the others. Does that mean I’m not a fan? No. I still listen to all their other music and buy their merch, so what does it matter if I don’t like that one album?

No :eyes: I consider myself a fan of some bands even though I’ve only heard like 10 songs by them-

No! Not at all!
You also don’t have to like every song to be a fan

Lmaoo no… I mean I do listen to a lot of songs, likkeee aaa loootttt and not all of them I love but I’ll still vibe to them… the ones I love the most, I’ll overplay them until I get bored of them :joy:

Lmao wtf?? No

No!
I hate this mentality, which is one of the main reasons I dislike fandoms.
You CAN dislike a song your favorite singer made. Maybe I don’t like the lyrics. Maybe I don’t like the melody, or I can’t relate to it.
