Do you use references or use your imagination when you create art. If you do both, which is easier for you?

I usually use references to put something I imagined on paper to get stuff correct. Like with anatomy and landscape.

I used to use references but I just don’t make digital art anymore.
I just doodle stuff. Most of them are random stuff I see. Is that considered as a reference?

Even if I tried to draw something out of my imagination, it wouldn’t look how it did in my mind and I would just give up.

Imagination. Most of the time.

I don’t really do art (in the sense of seriousness or professional or something if you get it-) I only do them when I’m, like, really bored-

so most of the time, I don’t, but if I get invested in this drawing, I search up references of some features xDD
