Sometimes we sing a song without knowing the meaning of lyrics, only later to find out that it’s about something entirely different.
There are times when it matters to me and times when it doesn’t. I used to love ‘Waterfalls’ by TLC, but once I looked a bit closely at the lyrics, they made me sad.
‘Pumped Up Kicks’ was ruined for me when I found out that it was about school shootings. The whole school shooting issue makes me feel very anxious, so now I just feel a bit creeped out when I hear that song.
Then there are the ‘dirty’ ones that I didn’t get until someone pointed it out to me, or I actually read the lyrics… I just felt weird singing those songs after that.
