it means “English” or “Outlander” but scottish people mostly use it as an insult … and Jamie calls her Sassenach but Claire knows he doesn’t mean it that way and never has … It’s like the gaelic version of “Saxon” from Anglo Saxon

I forgot to say it … mo nighean donn is also a long but still loving nickname, and Jamie calls Claire that firstly on their wedding night to compliment her, and then later on he usually calls her by her name or Sassenach when calling her, but when talking to her alone, lovingly he calls her mo nighean donn
