Son of Odin and Frigg
The story goes that Baldur was loved by all the gods and goddesses so much that when Baldur told Frigg about a dream of his death, she went to everything on earth and asked an oath to never harm her son.
Well, Loki, looking to make some mischief, asks Frigg if she left anything out on her journey. She replies that she left out mistletoe because it’s small and harmless. So, Loki fashioned a spear made of mistletoe and gave it to a blind god to throw at Baldur as all the gods did, impressed with his invulnerability. The spear struck and killed him. Full of grief, Frigg went throughout the earth and proclaimed that on one day of the year mistletoe is to be recognized and never forgotten or overlooked again. Hence hanging mistletoe at Christmas time…
