Okay, this is only a message about the rules. Even though it seems to be dropped for now, I would like to ask that everyone drops this conversation after they read this, please!
Yes, when I looked at these posts, I do/did agree that it shouldn’t have been said. They were inappropriate and hurtful. The word in question was a slur and I am glad that jth7997 now knows this. However, the way you all went about this was practically dogpiling (“ganging up” to put it another way) him and that is also against the rules. A number of you could have been flagged yourself for this.
As soon as he posted it, ethereal asked him to censor and then to delete. A reason provded would have been good, so he knew why, yes, but it was still asked. Users then didn’t need to threaten him, quoting the post, to say blur/delete it or you’ll be flagged. As well as have several people explaining it to him, not unless he asks. That can be scary and overwhelming.
Anyway, if one person has already handled it, then please don’t comment further… unless that one person hasn’t given any reason for it, then you can. But no more than two people. If things still don’t change or the user doesn’t seem to understand, then you can flag it and a mod will handle the situation. Though I always recommend flagging first if something is inappropriate, as it can usually be handled in a more civil way than with the heighten emotions on a public thread.
