She laughed along with him, her light, pretty laugh mixing with his deeper, yet still soft one. She looked down, then smiled at him, “I am a morning person as well!” She replied. Jason grinned-glad and interested they had this in common. “Wow. I don’t meet other morning people often.” He commented, only looking slightly surprised. Most people he met liked sleeping in, and did not like being woken up early. Interesting. “I agree.” She beamed at him, her smile was radiant. “You do?” She looked a bit surprised before asking if he really thought the first day was exciting. He shrugged, “More exciting then the second day of school,” he responded, smiling somewhat earnestly. She shook her head, the loose strands from her bun moving slightly. “Nothing in particular, it’s just…a good day today.” She let her shoulder bump his lightly and he smiled at her-it was a friendly thing to do. “You shouldn’t need a reason,” He thought out loud, still smiling at her.
She tilted her head curiously when he mentioned responsibility. “You have a sibling?” Again, the thought of his sunny younger sister made his smile brighten. “Yeah, I have a sister.” He explained brightly. He thought of protecting his sister as a responsibility-though not an annoying one. Especially since he was older and she was quite gullible. That’s why he’d panicked when he couldn’t find her-who knew what kind of terrible people were at this school. After pausing for a moment, he asked, “Oh! Do you have any siblings?” Arielle asked what Camilla was like, and he smiled, glad for the chance to talk about her. “She’s the best. She’s always in a great mood, loves animals…” Jason made sure to only list Camilla’s best qualities. “She’s super sweet. You’d definitely like her.” He hinted lightly with his last sentence. Arielle seemed awesome and like the perfect friend for Camilla and himself. He always made sure to judge her friends-he didn’t want her to befriend someone that would influence her negatively.
She looked away and coughed lightly, probably to be polite, which Jason appreciated. He nodded slightly as she turned back to him, “Just a little.” Jason sighed-he knew he wasn’t just a little protective. Literally everyone he met noted on it. But he had his reasons. At least Arielle was being nice about it. “It’s more than a little, you can be honest.” “It’s nice, though, that you care for your sister.” He smiled lightly-glad she understood. Most people thought he acted more like a dad than a sister. “Thanks,” He said genuinely. Arielle and him seemed to see eye to eye on a lot of things. “You didn’t, don’t worry about it.” She shook her head, then pushed a lock of hair out of her face. “Good.” Jason said, somewhat entranced by what she was doing with her hair. "
She smiled at his offer, nodding. “Okay, I’ll go grab us a seat.” Jason thanked her with a smile before heading to the coffee machine at the back of the room. The deep, rich smell of coffee became stronger as he reached the table. He first got some for himself, not adding any milk or sugar. He liked it the way it was-black, without anything added. Writing his name on his, he then took another cup, this time adding a good amount of sugar as well as some milk. This one was for Camilla-she rarely had coffee, he didn’t usually allow it. It wasn’t healthy, he didn’t want her to get an addiction. But it was a special occasion. And maybe, just a bit, he wanted to seem like a good brother in front of Arielle. He didn’t write her name, instead drew his best sunshine and rainbow-he wasn’t really an artist-but they were simple doodles. He then got Arielle’s cup ready, hoping he wasn’t taking too long. After he filled the cup, he looked to the sugar and milk. He wasn’t sure what she wanted-though she seemed like a sweet person. Perhaps she’d like some sugar and milk, then. Though, considering how much they had in common, perhaps she’d prefer it plain. The teacher was speaking, so he did listen politely, although he already knew him. Then, he looked to Arielle. She had found them seats. When he got her attention, he pointed to the sugar and milk, with an inquisitive expression on his face-as if to ask if she’d like some.
