Chemythstry Classroom, Bay Mermaid
“Greatest dad ever?” Ariadne stopped, “Well maybe not the best, best. Just… the best for me? Does that make sense?” Was that offensive? Oh no! Does she think I think her dad isn’t the best! I mean if I think mine is the best, she might think her’s is the best, right? Her dad is probably as cool or ‘best’ as mine… Ahh I hope I didn’t say her dad isn’t as good as my dad!
“How did he get the wealthy’s money? Did he have to dress up? Or did he use an invisibility spell?” The questions made Ari smile. “I’m sure he has to dress up on occasion. We don’t have invisibility spells where I come from… or at least we don’t know how to use them. But it probably would’ve helped a bunch if we did! We usually ambush them when they have to drive through or near the woods. But we have other ways also.” Ariadne winked… although really she couldn’t think of the other ways currently.
“Holy guacamole!” Ariadne giggled as quietly as she could, hoping not to embarrass Bay. “That’s so tall! Why is he called Little John, then? That makes no sense!” Ari smiled and nodded as she answered, “I know, I know. I’m still trying to figure that out!”
“Awww that’s so sweet!” Ari nodded. “And they’re still friends today? You’re super good at telling stories, Ari!” Ariadne nodded slightly. “Yeah, they’re still friends,” She continued to say shyly, “but I don’t think I’m the story-telling sibling.” She spoke out after a brief glance at her brother, who appeared to be conversing with the teacher.
“So, I started attending an all-girls underwater boarding school when I was in first grade.” Though Ari didn’t show it on her face, she definitely was thinking it… LUCKY! “Yeah!! It was kinda like an underwater castle! Picture this school, but with a LOTT more algae. And mermaids. And no boys." Ari nodded, I wonder what algae feels like? “Ooo, good question! My tail is greenish-blue-teal, that’s the word! Yeah, scaly! And there’s like, gems and shells on it. And I can breathe underwater, too!” Ariadne’s eye’s nearly gleamed. “That’s so cool! I bet it shimmers too, right?” She paused for a second “I wish I had a tail!” Ari remarked with a smile. “I bet your hair is much more flowing under water… wait, do your lungs transform into gills?” she said, looking at Bay’s hair.
“Do you like dogs like your dad?” Bay seemed to pause, Maybe she’s scared of dogs! Ariadne was about to open her mouth when Bay answered, “Yeah, I LOVE dogs!!! I wish Cam and I had a dog, but I don’t think a dog would really be suited for our cove.” Ariadne nodded, maybe she was thinking.
“Ahhh I don’t know. Maybe my Mom since she’s a girl and has red hair? But I’m not really…like either of them.” Bay looked at her hands “They’re stupid and dumb. And I’m not stupid and dumb, right?” Ari leaned back, almost forgetting she was sitting on a stool. “Oh cool, your like a one-of-a-kind of diamond. I take after my dad, so I wouldn’t know about being a diamond child.” Ari shook her head,"Stupid or Dumb? Heck no! How could you ever think you were-"Ariadne heard herself get a little aggressive. Perhaps it was because Bay was putting herself down, or perhaps it was because no one should label themselves stupid, but the truth is that she had asked herself the same question when she was in her younger teen years. She took a deep breath. “No. I don’t think your stupid or dumb, and I pray you don’t think you are either.” Ariadne thought about what her younger self would’ve wanted, “Do you want a hug?” She said, standing and holding her arms out.
