The answer Bertram received when he asked about the boy’s father wasn’t one that he neither expected nor could have imagined he would have got. It was very diplomatic for the way he had been talking of him. Though when he heard the word majesty, he was curious about it and wondered if he would have to bow, being in the presence of royalty. However, decided against it. Marc seemed liked he didn’t want to talk about him, nor did he make any suggestion to Bertram that any royal tradition had to be adhered to. Instead, Bertram simply nodded and tried to veer away from the talk of his family. “Very fair. If you are not too close with your father, nor your brother who you say is quite different from yourself, may I ask who you are close to?”

“Yes, my mother is very important to me. I will do anything for her, including leave to come here if that is what she wants.” His smile had returned, as well as an affection in his voice as he spoke of her. He was still trying to speak about in the present tense, so to not give it away for the boy to ask while also trying to convince himself she was still around. Though it didn’t work. “Her name is Trilby but goes by Trillie to those who are close.” He was mainly talking of his father, he was the main person to call her that.
Marc then went on to make what he could only assume was a joke based on his expression from what Bertram had known of teasing. Bertram tried to respond with a laugh, tight-lipped so that the muted laugh was breathy and nasal. “I suppose I did. Very well, I would be more than happy to accompany you to the castleteria to discover bacon. I do apologise though, as you will will have to try it alone. Bacon is a product of pigs and do not eat meat.”
