Personality || Mychyst was forced not only to shield herself, but to shield her emotions as well. In the world of valkyries, she was taught to never let the heart decide. And so, she might come off as cold, with barely nothing to feel but the pride of being a strong warrior. Her parents’ fate might have also encouraged her to do so, seeing as how her mother killed her father by rage.
She thinks that showing emotions is a weakness that can bring her her doom, but this kind of value/morality can actually get broken by the big grudge she holds in her heart. Because she’s been hiding her emotions well, Mychyst might explode at times in anger, so don’t annoy her too much. Speaking of that, Mychyst’s current desire is to avenge her mother, but being stuck in OUH, she cannot do that and is angry about that fact.
Mychyst has one thing to feel proud of, and she just might be a little too proud of it. Nothing excites her more than combat, and she does think no one can match her when it comes to it just as much as her mother used to as well. Like mother, like daughter, indeed—the few best qualities of Brynhildr was passed onto her: fearlessness, daring, determined, and proud.
Because she has never really considered the importance of emotions, Mychyst can be insensitive at times, letting careless words out of her mouth. Brutally blunt, as you call it, she doesn’t recognize any difference between creatures and speaks what she truly want to speak especially if she feels about it negatively.
And as you might guess, Mychyst does hold a lot in her brains, though they are mostly about battle. She catches on quickly, and she knows logic. Sometimes though, her logic can get a little confusing but… just bear with it. Mychyst understands and appreciates humor, but she doesn’t laugh at them much as she should, as you would expect. Instead, she enjoys her dry and dark humor, not knowing she might come off as a bully at that point.
And though Mychyst might tell you you’re not her friend, she only says that to not seem attached to people. Once she starts protecting you and making fun of you, rest assured you’re in her nonexistent friend group.
Biography || Trigger Warning: Suicide and Murder You might know of the story of Brynhildr and Sigurd, lovers whose fate was to end in tragedy. Brynhildr was a valkyrie who was put into eternal sleep, surrounded by a wall of fire after displeasing and disobeying Odin. She was found by Sigurd, a hero, who woke her up from that sleep and soon fell in love with each other; however, things just had to turn when they were separated by a brother and a sister, who wanted each of them for themselves. Sigurd was enchanted into falling out of love with Brynhildr, marrying a princess, and helping this princess’ brother to win Brynhildr (who only wanted to marry a man who could defeat her in battle). Long story short, Brynhildr soon found out Sigurd’s treachery and killed him. Being in remorse of his death, however, she also ended up killing herself.
At least that’s what’s being told to Mychyst, who, apparently, was birthed to these two tragic lovers. She lived to see her parents together until she was about eight years old, when everything fell down. She watched as her father betrayed her mother, and she watched as her mother was defeated and forced into giving herself in to marry a man she didn’t love. Because of that, she was also forced into separating with them, not wanting to see her parents together in one household and separated. Since then, she has not seen them.
She was taken in by Eir, the only valkyrie who had the mercy enough to take her in as her own. She was shaped to become a Valkyrie, or at least that’s what Eir wanted her to be. It’s what Mychyst herself wanted as well, but as daughter of the famed Brynhildr, she wasn’t favored by most—especially Odin. Odin would get reminded every time of Brynhildr’s fate, but no one really knew whether it was because of his grave disappointment… or guilt; thus, he never once mentioned Mychyst and her fate.
Mychyst had someone to blame to. Now and then, she would dream of her parents and their fate. If it wasn’t for that princess and her brother, then maybe she would have someone by her side other than Eir. And so, the young warrior headed into their kingdom, and full of vengeance, she stained her hands with the blood of her father’s wife. Her conscience? Cleared—she thought, “perhaps Odin will be proud of me, getting rid of bad people.” It was either a fortune or not when she was followed by Eir, who took her back. Hearing of her act, Odin finally put his attention to her, but it was not the best first meeting at all. To his “mercy,” his punishment to the little girl was not too severe.
Mychyst was to fight the valkyries. If she lost and died, she would go to Helheim; if she succeeded and managed to stay alive, she would earn a place in Valhalla. Either way wasn’t what Mychyst wanted, but what choice did she have? To her fortune, Eir stood up for her against Odin, somehow convincing him into accepting a bargain that could benefit everyone: let Mychyst train, and if she succeeds, she’d become a valkyrie; if not, she would be punished into being a normal human with little life and normal strength. Odin, of course, agreed. However, he knew that deep inside Mychyst was still a heart looking for vengeance, and so—against the young girl’s wishes—he sent her far away on her own and made sure she wasn’t going to get out of it unless her heart was clear of grudge.
